I have enough Lego. If I said I didn't, I would be offending people who can't afford a single Lego set. However, the answer to the question of whether or not I would like to have more Lego is hell yes! As a minifigure collector, there are always new minifigures to chase around every year. I try to avoid buying sets because of this (and because of space), but every once in a while I see a set that I simply do not want to miss out of. Space, storage, and money are, I think, the main obstacles to expanding one's collection. However, if you feel like there is nothing you would like to purchase right now, do not force yourself. Lego is expensive!

WhiteFang, thanks for another awesome review! It has been a tradition for me to see your reviews for every series before they are released. I always get very excited to see the details of the figures that can first be seen with your crisp pictures. I also really enjoy the group pictures with past CMFs or minifigures from other themes! It is also great to see the scientist has an Einstein face. With Doc Brown's new hair piece, someone could make a great Einstein! You might have answered this already somewhere, but I have not been able to stumble upon it. Do you not plan to keep taking group pictures of all CMF minifigures anymore? I can imagine that since the collection is huge now, this is not practical anymore. However, I always enjoyed seeing all the figures together in your pictures, something I cannot do myself because my figures are stored in separate ziplock bags and it would take me forever to take them all out. If you cannot take pictures of the complete collection of all series now, perhaps a collage of sorts would be nice? Just a suggestion! I was also wondering if you have any of the other Monster Fighters monsters or the Studios monsters. It would be very interesting to see all of the monsters throughout the ages in a single picture! We have now, I believe, four witches (five with the Witch of the West), five Frankenstein monsters, a lot of different zombies, and four non-licensed werewolves. By the way, here's how the first three Frankenstein monsters compare! Found it on Flickr. Short of two versions now...

Too Much Detail on Minifigures?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Lancethecat's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Yeah, this has been a trend. I see the development of SW and licensed figures in 4 stages: yellow figures (which I like for their classic look), first flesh figures, more detailed flesh figures (my favorite), and the figures with excess detail. I think the problem with excessive printing is it creates a strong contrast with the unprinted parts of the figure. For instance, take the new 3PO and his incomplete leg prints.- 49 replies

I don't think any of us should impose deadlines for WhiteFang. Anyways, isn't the release date October? If they were to be released in September, wouldn't the bios be up at least? Nobody knows what the bags look like, as well, so I think they won't be out for a while. I'm really hoping we get purple bags this time.

I think it depends on how iconic the original figure is seen. I for one decided to get a version of all the major SW characters in their original versions, and was very pleased to find most of them at cheap prices. I honestly love the Cloud City Boba Fett even though the modern one is nicer and closer to the original. I wouldn't say 0% probability (I personally find it a little fishy that they chose 5,000 as the number of Mr. Golds, as though another 5,000 were planned for the future), but I agree it's very unlikely we'll ever see a re-release. Moreover, I'm willing to bet that Lego will release chase figures similar to Mr. Gold in the future, probably in the CMF theme as well. Maybe a Ms. Gold or Mr. Silver... And that would be the nightmare of completists. Not sure how likely it is for them to do it, but they do it a lot of other figures in the CMF theme.

This stand is awesome!!! (Read with "Everything is Awesome" tune). The logo for the movie title is impressive, and I like how you managed to keep it tilted. Thanks for sharing! Looks great!

Unboxing an unbuilt Metroliner
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Carrera124's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I've heard some people complain about the Legends sets. I'll say though that I had 10001 and 10002, and I was satisfied with the conditions. Granted, I was 12 years old, but I was a picky fan even then. I guess it's also a matter of luck.- 32 replies

You bring up some valid points. I guess we'll only be completely sure of the extent of the effect that the increasing demand has had on these minifig prices if Lego does something similar to the chrome 3PO or Vader again. Ahhhh, but that is relative! I for one am not a completist, but I'm a huge Star Wars fan and I LOVED the chrome 3PO the first time I saw it, although I already had a couple and usually one of any character is good enough for me. Instead, when I saw Mr. Gold, I thought it was a nice idea, but didn't love the figure as much. Of course all of this depends on taste, but I believe probably a big chunk of Lego fans would say the same about the two figs. I'll admit we're comparing two very different figs, though, and the only three things they have in common is expensiveness, rarity, and "chromeness".

Unboxing an unbuilt Metroliner
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Carrera124's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This set is amazing... I remember getting it for Christmas, back in '04... Ahhhh good memories from childhood. Build it! You won't regret it. And if you get the additional club car that was sold as a separate set, get it and build it! It's totally worth it!- 32 replies

[LDD MOC] Classic Space Reimaginings
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to TheNerdyOne_'s topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Nice concept and excecutions! My only suggestion would be to modify the Alien Moon Stalker design. Still looks a little "blocky", but I understand you might be going for a hybrid of a classic and contemporary design. Thanks for sharing! -
 Me too. However, some of us are against Lego releasing some figures we really want (they would be in our wishlist for things for them to release, like the symbiote Spider-man) and then making them exclusive. I hope someday they'll rectify this by releasing different versions of the popular characters that they released as comic-con exclusives.

Why the heck would you want prices in the US to rise? The prices moving closer together would only be good if prices outside of the US dropped...

Hmmmm, so the consensus would be that it's because of an increase in popularity in Lego, and possibly the difference Hawkman is mentioning? Hawkman, I'm not too sure I agree with you. Most Star Wars collectors probably saw the chrome C-3PO as the way the minifigure should be (since in the movies it is metallic). Plus it was a main character in a very popular series of films, and it appeared in all 6 films. An argument could be made that not all Star Wars collectors collect Lego, though. It just seemed weird to me that a character like Mr. Gold that did not exist until a couple of years ago is more expensive than this chrome figure that represents a character that has been popular since 1977. Maybe this is too specific a comparison, though, and we will only know how things have really changed if a similar licensed chase figure is released again. I really hope it's completitionists, like you said, because otherwise these figures will become impossible to obtain in the secondary market.

I'm no expert on economics or anything of that sort, but it seems that during the last five or seven years rare figs have gotten a higher demand. When Lego was about to release Mr. Gold I didn't think it would be selling for these prices. Seeing as the chrome C-3PO was from a licensed property, was limited to 10,000 figures, and was available in the $100-$200 range even two years after being produced, I imagined that even if Mr. Gold is twice as rare, the prices for it would not exceed those of the chrome 3PO. However, this hasn't happened, seeing as Mr. Gold is still selling for at least $500ish. Why is this? Is it because interest for Lego figs has increased? Should we expect that if special figures like the chrome 3PO or Vader are again inserted on random sets they will be much more expensive to purchase, in the ranges of Mr. Gold? Or is Mr. Gold simply not comparable to those figures for some reason? Have the comic-con figs had an effect on this? Back in the day, I remember the most expensive figs were a couple of rare Star Wars ones, plus a couple more obscure Lego super rare figs. There were maybe 5 figures that were impossible to get cheaper than $70, unlike today. The trend for really expensive figures continues. Your thoughts? Is it going to become nearly impossible for the average Joe to get this kind of chase figures? Is Mr. Gold ever going to reach a reasonable price range? Will future chase figures (excluding the Comic-Con ones, which are exclusive to the event and thus will always be expensive) be equally as expensive to get?

Woah! It looks great! I doubt I can make a sculpture like that and I'm in my 20s. Kudos!

Love the figs! Please Lego, use purple bags already! Then I'll be entirely satisfied.

My oh-so-controversial thoughts on The Lego Movie
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Bennemans's topic in Community
Yeah, although I loved the movie, my main dislike was its portrayal of AFOLs. So the movie seems to say that if you collect sets and don't "mix them up", you're the bad guy. I just hope this movie won't bring me an argument with kids in the future about how they should respect my stuff! -
I guess my wishlist would include most of what is in the Marvel videogame but not in Lego sets. All the Fantastic Four, Ghost Rider, Spider-man in different suits, Red Hulk, Bruce Banner, General Ross, Gray Hulk, even Captain Universe Hulk, Rhino, the Hulkbuster armor, Professor Xavier, Jean, Gambit, Beast, big Venom, Carnage, Sandman, Green Goblin (classic), the Lizard, Electro (classic), The Vulture, chrome Iron Men, Galactus, a Sentinel Minifig... As for DC, I'd say GL for sure, Cyborg, Metallo, Doomsday, Darkseid, Ultraman, Bizarro (please Lego...), Sinestro, Owlman. I'm really behind on my superheroes collection though... I barely own two figs!

Which Themes Deserve a Reboot?
1980-Something-Space-Guy replied to Lancethecat's topic in General LEGO Discussion
As a huge Space fan, I'd like to see reboots (not re-releases) of Space. Neo-classic space would be great (and they did a great job with Benny's spaceship). We NEED Blacktron III (SPIII but no Blacktron III???). It'd be nice to see an update of Ice Planet, and I'd personally like to see an update of Exploriens and UFO (which I know are not a themes a lot of people like as much as I do). It would be great, as has been mentioned, to go back to the times of different factions and concurrent Space subthemes. One can only wish while Star Wars is a Lego theme, though. As a Star Wars fan I don't complain entirely, however!- 438 replies
