  1. Really? What a mess if true. I hope it's just under supply and they're bringing them back. Despite the mismatch of 2022 shape vs 2021 livery, I do quite like it and wanted to get one.
  2. Here's a disappointing realization I've just made about the new system - I'm a bit slow at the moment, clearly. You get charged a service fee if you spend under $14 for bestseller elements or standard elements. Ok, fair enough, I can see how getting a single piece shipped is a pain for them. But now that it's all merged into 'one' system you can't choose to just buy from Bricks & Pieces. Previously I could get everything from Bricks and Pieces. Now I'm forced to split the order across the two, meaning it can be harder to hit the service fee thresholds.
  3. They look good. I'd like to get three more of those tuxedo torsos, but I've only seen them on pre-built figures near me.
  4. Agreed, that would be fair and easy to deal with if it's predictable like that.
  5. I think there is a big difference between a $350 celebration set that is clearly aimed at AFOLs compared to a full theme. Full themes will generally need to be targeted towards children, as they will the bigger audience for $10-$50 play sets, as castle sets almost certainly would be. Plus, there's no media tie-in for castle stuff. How many themes don't have a media tie-in? Architecture, Creator 3-in-1, Creator Expert, and Dots. Hidden Side and VIDIYO didn't, but they had an app tie-in and failed. Even the in-house themes of City, Friends, Monkie Kid, and Ninjago have their own LEGO-created media. Also, I'm sure there was an interview with someone from LEGO last year where one of the team said that Creator was the new home for these classic themes. They could absolutely come up with one set per year, or several sets in one go, and it wouldn't be out of place. But I would expect to see that before seeing a full theme.
  6. Santa's Visit arrived today. Took advantage of double VIP while it was in stock, knowing that it will be tricker to get nearer the holidays.
  7. I recently switched by modulars over to MILS and used red tiles for the Palace Cinema floor. It worked well. I'm missing three 2x2 angled tiles which are in an upcoming B&P order, but otherwise didn't cost much at all and was easy to do. I keep getting tempted by the Fire Station, which is the only modular I don't have that I like. The quick price check on all parts that Rebrickable comes up with is about the same as buying the entire set from Bricklink. But one day, hopefully soon, I'll price it up on LEGO Pick A Brick/Bricks & Pieces and see if there are any parts to substitute out as suggested above.
  8. I've finally transferred a bunch of my modulars over to a MILS-inspired base, but going for closed sides in black as I (currently) don't have any roads (maybe one day). I prefer the look of them on the shelves, but it also makes them much more stable to pick up and move around (my daughter regularly plays with them). I was particularly pleased with tiling the Palace Cinema floor with a red carpet, given that creating a red plate base would be hard/unstable if I wanted black edging on all of it (2x2 angle tiles in red to finish it off are still waiting to be shipped from B&P). Using Captain Jack Sparrow as a movie wax work in the lobby was fun too.
  9. True. I was more thinking of just Hogwarts, not the stuff in the grounds, but yes the prices of individual sets adds up to a lot. But it's within reach, so they could end up doing it one day. Again, not something I want, but previously it didn't occur to me that it would even be feasible.
  10. Both fair points. It's not so much that I want one - I'd prefer variety and yes, I don't have room for yet more of the same thing - but it feels more possible than I had considered before. I, just like everyone else, want a UCS Dobby's Sock, obviously.
  11. It really is very good. Makes you think that maybe they could do a full Hogwarts minifigure scale set for the D2C. Especially if they went movie accurate like yours, compared to playset prioritization for the new style of sets.
  12. 1. Hogwarts microscale 2. Great Hall 3. Diagon Alley 4. The Burrow 5. Astronomy Tower 6. Hogsmeade 7. Magical Trunk 8. Chamber of Secrets (but mostly because of the great alt build as the bar for the 2018 Great Hall) 9. Icons (which I won't get, but I appreciate it and that others enjoy it) 10. Hogwarts Express
  13. There is a new Pick & Build Hub page on the LEGO website - Pick and Build | Official LEGO® Shop US That has a short video about how Pick a Brick works (which is very vague, but fun) - https://www.lego.com/cdn/cs/set/assets/bltc0add98c97e35d0e/02.06.21_LEGO_PickaBrick_v2.mp4 And a super helpful wheel and tyre matching guide - Matching tires, rims and axles - Help Topics - Customer Service - LEGO.com US I've also noticed that the price of the 32607 three leaf studs has increased from $0.05 the other day to $0.06 today. Are they going to change things frequently, or is this just initial price adjustment, I wonder?
  14. Went to the Boston, MA South Shore Plaza LEGO Store today and they had the pink bear, fairy, and chick suit figures. Said they'd arrived in today. So they are making their way into the US at last. Their current selection is:
  15. And yet one of the things they said about the Bricklink Designer Program and not going above the limit was that they didn't want to spoil the exclusivity of the set for those that buy it, by making it more widely available. Which is somewhat silly, given that the only exclusive things in it are the sticker sheet and box. Part of me would really like a modular fire station for $150 or $200, rather than $600. But more of me would prefer a new modular fire station with modern parts and techniques for $200. And if they're going to release a large set, why not do something new and modern? It will likely appeal to a much broader audience, and those that have the old sets will but the new one too. As opposed to limiting themselves to a smaller subset of potential buyers. I suppose if they charge a lot for the subscription service (some of the prices were up to about $50 per month if I recall correctly), then it may work out well for them, as people pay LEGO a large amount for the subscription, and then another $200 on top of that for the set. I'm still unconvinced though.
  16. I found it interesting that it lasted all the way to the end of the promotional period (at least on the website in the US). It's a lower GWP threshold compared to some others recently, which sold out more quickly. Did they produce more than others in anticipation of demand, or the $120 threshold is just high enough compared to $100 last year to dramatically reduce the number of orders that qualify for one.
  17. They may have used the thinner tyre so that the hover mechanism works. I suspect wider tyres would get caught. Agreed the original hoverboard looks better, but trying to achieve the same thing at the scale of the model as they have done, would be tricky, and probably end up looking even worse as you'd need more pieces, which would break up the design.
  18. I thought the same thing when I watched that this morning. Intriguing.
  19. I almost don't believe that they've included minifigures after what they said with the Ecto-1, despite seeing them on the LEGO website. It looks really good.
  20. it should be relatively easy to MOC back to the original. More so than going from an original to BTTF. Sawyer Howd on BrickVault has an excellent 8-wide DeLorean that I built last year. Given the fine detail of the doors/roof, it's pretty stable - DeLorean Time Machine — Brick Vault It should also be fairly easy to convert to a standard DeLorean.
  21. While many new parts may not be there, I notice that the seagull is back and available in the new system. I thought it retired last year, and didn't you have to call for it? The show out of stock toggle adds another 400 parts to the list, 12259 to 12622. And it's nice to be able to browse through all the animals and minifig elements, which was annoying in the old system. Shame you can't see more than 20 on a single page, or filter out the Duplo. For pricing differences on animals, the sheep (6342625) has gone from 1.88 to 1.89. But the dark tan monkey (6343797) has gone from 1.67 to 1.84. The 3 leaf studs are now all $0.06 each, but previously ranged from $0.04 to $0.1. Some of the new colours are not available (white, yellow flame orange), but the new coral piece is listed, just as out of stock. Squirrels, kittens, sea turtle, and dark orange horse are nowhere to be found. And in true licensed parts news, Olaf's body (6278114) is available for $2.74.
  22. It would be a real shame if they're limiting the parts available. Hopefully there's a reason it's not there now and comes back, but I can't think of anything sensible as to why.
  23. To continue the tab on B&P shipping dates, my Jan 31 order shipped today.
  24. True, but minifigs still contribute to the production budget. Otherwise the Creator castle should have had way more figures than it did. Same with the pirate ship. It would be a shame if this didn't compare well with Medieval Blacksmith and Ninjago City Gardens. Maybe smaller than the gardens (certainly in height), but too much smaller, and the extra $50 for inflation/price increases. I've seem amazing castle MOCs with 10,000+ pieces, so clearly not that scale. But it does always feel odd the way that the Creator castle is smaller than the Blacksmith.
  25. Honestly I'd be far happier with fewer figures and a more impressive castle with decent detail and height. It would be a shame if it weren't taller than the blacksmith.
