  1. I just had an order with all of the plastic bags sealed together in links (kind of like those air bubble things). Maybe they heat sealed them too then? I've never seen it done before, so I was quite amazed by it. Very nice not needing a zipper I guess. Does it require special equipment to heat seal?
  2. I honestly can't tell what is different about it?? I just built this set the other night too. Interesting.
  3. I'm surprised/not surprised it is so expensive. Looking at bricklink, from scratch, it would cost about 2-2.5x as much as retail in USD. Not that many expensive pieces, mostly just a large quantity of pieces. I guess this shows to not pass on any of them, even if you are on the fence.
  4. I'm sure it will be backordered for a while. I haven't bought one. I was waiting until Christmas, so I'm sure they will make more. It will just take time. If not, then I guess I missed out. But I'd think this would be rated as one of the top toys this year.
  5. The LOTR ring repainted wouldn't work as a watch. Since it is chromed, the mold for the piece is actually smaller than a normal piece and then the chrome makes it the right thickness. To re-use that piece they would have to create a new mold and I don't see that happening anytime soon.
  6. It will be interesting to see just how expensive the FB will be bricklinked vs brand new since it was only recently retired. I don't think it had too many rare pieces.
  7. It seems great minds may think alike . I have a sand blue grocer done too! I just need to get pictures of mine. I need to finish my first floor shop before I get pictures though. Mine is a little different though since I altered the size of the front area with the curved windows. But I also used regular green for the awning and dark green for the curtains. Funny how that is.
  8. ^They'd probably apologize, since I doubt those pieces would be available anymore to send out.
  9. Exactly. As much as nostalgia drives my interests when looking at LEGO. I typically prefer the newer techniques and pieces to build things with. I never got into Classic Space, but I liked M:Tron and Blacktron II. But even rehashing them, they would look dated compared to Galaxy Squad or whatever else they have planned. But I do like that TLG keeps producing trans neon green pieces for me to build my own stuff in the old themes.
  10. Well, average sold price on bricklink shows it to be around $260+. Converting from Euro to USD, it is about $272. So that actually is a pretty fair/average price. I'm really glad I bought that set. That was the first thing I ever ordered from Shop at Home.
  11. There is a line between too much detail (as most minifigures are these days) to very basic printing that people love about the classic sets. I'm a fan of a lot of the new stuff LEGO is putting out, but there is always that nostalgia for the old sets/figures since that was my youth. I don't mind the dark blue trooper, but I only bought one. I didn't army build him like I normally would have. It'd almost be better if there was a different (basic) color to go with the rest of the group. Although again, too much detail OR too many new non-basic molds may not fit too well..
  12. I never figured LEGO spaceships or spaceships in general had any realistic engine placements. Most things don't look like they'd be very good at flying, yet somehow "they stay up there." So Ice Planet is no exception, although I did like the looks of the DFD. It is one ship I don't have in my collection. I definitely would like to add it eventually, but it can be really expensive. Ice Planet seemed to have more ground vehicles, which is interesting. I have a few people in my LUG that build Ice Planet related MOCs.
  13. Floundie - they would have dropped IJ considering it was a licensed theme and they tend to quit doing sets when the media tie-in is no longer relevant. They need the media push for advertising to help sell the toys. Some themes just can't make it on their own. With that said, I'd prefer a Blacktron II, M:Tron, Black Falcons or Forestmen reboots.
  14. Well, if you read the article from the designer, he specifically states the old mold was too prone to cracking and would never get remade, unless a stronger plastic or something would come along. But as it stands, it HAS to be the new mold for durability. Plus, it doesn't matter considering the newer mold is available in basically every single color anyone could ever need/want.
  15. fred67 - I found some for under $1 also, so that is probably what you were talking about. I hadn't noticed them before though. What are your thoughts on the quality? They seemed kind of flimsy with the lid only snapping on the sides. The other similar sized sterilite has a more rigid shape because of the reinforced handles. The cost is a big decision maker though.
  16. Well done! Good call in modifying instead of not using the features at all. I really like the new Pets signage. Being centered really helps the design. The non-functional back adds a lot to what you can do with a design since you don't have to worry about pesky doors/windows. I stick with the official height, so personally I don't add the extra layer, but it works that you do. I like the extra room available.
  17. What's so different about the Batman figure in the above Lex Luther instruction? I guess I don't see any difference from what we already have. As in, it isn't breaking my heart that we didn't get it since they are all subtle variations of each other anyway.
  18. Being a Husker, I find Chimney Rock comical. I also really like that covered wagon design. I may have to borrow that. I must not be too bright, but I didn't know what a lot of them were portraying. Maybe I don't know enough about each state individually.
  19. I'm at a crossroads with this. I tend to just have mine on display on a shelf, but sometimes I do get them down to look at them. And I do like looking at the interiors (whether official or my creation). There are other instances when I let my daughter play with them. She of course, likes interiors. Granted she usually builds her own for them, so that works out. I built a sand blue grocer (which I still need to take pictures of) and I built an interior for the top two floors in that. If I ever get around to finishing the bottom level, then it should have a complete interior.
  20. Very clever. I like the piece usage. I almost would want to copy you, but I don't have the money to buy any of these unique pieces.
  21. Thanks for the review. I've seen 2 or 3 already, yet I keep reading them. I am definitely sold. I wasn't originally interested in this, but then again, I wasn't originally interested in the VW and that blew me away. So no doubt I will want this set too. I like the features it offers. I think I will mod the front to accommodate more fog lights, like the comparison photo. It doesn't look like it would be difficult.
  22. Like I said, I like the idea of them. So far I've been using sturdy cardboard boxes I get from work. They are all the same design and size/shape. I have a few variance in sizes which work well. The only downside is them not being clear and the fact that cardboard will break down over time with constant use. I do have them labeled, so it hasn't been a big deal for me so far. But I like the idea of clear plastic to make it look nicer/neater. But with that, I'm OCD enough I'd want all of them to be the same brand/color lid/etc. That hinders me to an extent since I would hate to have a lot of one type and then not find them anymore and have to switch to another color or brand...I know, I'm silly. But with those 15 qt containers, do you also use plastic bags inside to sort out certain elements within color schemes or anything? I've seen that on here before, so that might be a good idea too. I prefer keeping like colors together, so that could work for me. EDIT: I also recently recycled all of my old school notes, so I have 3 ring binders to use for instruction manuals. I considered getting these and organizing my manuals this way instead of stacking them in boxes. I wouldn't separate the sheets individually, like I've seen, but keep them intact, just organized in binders for easier searching. Has anyone done this before for manuals?
  23. Typically they will replace cracked pieces, but they keep making me jump through hoops. Most sets I have to send them a receipt to prove I own the set. It seems they don't do this to everyone, so I keep getting the shaft. Anyway, I'd request extra cheese slopes, but more than likely the new ones will crack too. I don't think I own any that aren't cracked. It seems like a poor design of the piece because of the small connection areas.
  24. I don't need any horses, BUT if I was able to get to a LEGO store, I'm sure I would stock up on them as well. It's good and bad I don't live near a LEGO store. I'd probably spend too much on PAB.
  25. I originally wanted to use those Sterilite shoebox containers because they seem like they'd be good enough quality while maintaining enough room to store the pieces. But at least on Amazon they are too expensive. a 12 pack for $27 and a 12 pack of the 16 quart for $50. I'd rather spend that money on LEGO itself. I've looked at Target before and I've never seen them that cheap, but maybe I'm not looking at the right time of year.
