[MOC] Muppet weirdos - bust collection (Gonzo, Animal, and Beaker)
TheLegoDr replied to jp-30's topic in LEGO Licensed
Well done. Instantly recognizable. Beaker and Pepe were always my favorites as a kid. So you nailed that one for sure. -
Now make Düff. It's from Sweden.

Peaches Castle from Super Mario Bros Nintendo MOC
TheLegoDr replied to Bricksnaps's topic in LEGO Licensed
Very impressive. I finished that game not too long ago. This looks spot on! When playing it I had considered if I should build something from it, but then quit thinking that way since my project list is too long as it is. Now after seeing this, I know I wouldn't be able to compete. Well done! -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

I use minifigures plus for all of my CMF needs. Their prices are usually better than or equal to MSRP and I don't have to worry about standing at a store feeling all of them or risk missing the street date. I've bought the last 5 or 6 series from them and couldn't be happier. Although I only buy a set, not a full box. That price also sounds good, but I didn't want to sell off extras and I didn't need duplicates for any reason. -
Press Release: 76391 Harry Potter Hogwarts Icons Collectors
TheLegoDr replied to Ecclesiastes's topic in LEGO Licensed
This looks brilliant. The books look great, especially stacked. Hedwig is phenomenal. I liked the smaller version, but this blows that out of the water. The potion bottles look clever. The frog has great part usage/shaping. I don't love the scarf component, but since it is under the books, it works for what it is. I don't really care for the golden figure gimmick, so while I normally do enjoy buying sets for the figures, I wouldn't be buying this for the figures. Odd... I actually really like the shaping on the wand also. I think for the scale (and medium) they nailed it. Nothing will be perfect with LEGO, but this works well. It won't be a day one purchase, but I'll definitely want to pick it up sometime. -
I don't know who to trust anymore. After everyone talked smack about this set and prepare to be disappointed....umm, that set looks riddikulus! I can't wait to pick it up. I had ZERO expectactions and was hoping to actually save some money since I don't care about the golden figures, but now I need that set...grr. I still need to pick up most of the 2021 HP waves and now the new Marvel stuff and the other Ideas and Creator stuff I don't have...I need more money I guess... I like the small Hedwig, but this one looks better. The bottles of potions look awesome. The books are great. Now I'll need a larger version of MBoM to go with them.

Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I saw that too. I knew it was only $20, but when the tag at Target said $40, I was like, no way... I'll pick it up eventually. I always have to leave a handful of sets on standby for future GWP at LEGO compared to just buying them all on release day. -
Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

What's wrong with the "junior" cape with the single hole? I think that lays better on the people. It doesn't get as squished when hair or shoulder armor cover it. -
Why not just go to brickset/bricklink and look at the inventory. Type in the set number and see what IS available on BnP and go from there. If it isn't available on BnP, then unless they came out with a new design/item number you could try to look for them (usually bricklink lists the different numbers). You won't need to enter every single piece separately, just go from the set page initially and go from there.

Got to love. the. Sein. I can't wait for this set. I appreciate your review. It is neat seeing it all come together. I was too young for this show growing up in the 90s (but I watched it anyway. Same with Friends). It really is a show about nothing and it works for almost any situation. Even cell phone etiquette happened in the later seasons when mobiles were first more readily available. It covers the gamut. I do agree on George needing smaller legs though. He refers to himself as a SHORT, stocky, bald guy. He should be shorter than the other figures. Granted, Elaine is probably about his height also, so does she then need shorter legs? I understand why they didn't go that route, but he may look better with shorter legs. I will experiment when I get the set. Granted Kramer would then need 1x1s under his feet to make himself just a tad taller.

This is an impressive process. It is neat seeing the updates. I don't know anything about the source material other than what you've shared, but it seems to be hitting on target, especially since the creator was able to meet and discuss things. I wish I had some project I could be this passionate about. I tend to wax/wane my LEGO interest and there is nothing that I want to build other than small things that ultimately have no connection to my interests...

[MOC] Ancient Egyptian Cat Worshipping
TheLegoDr replied to Sebeus I's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
that is incredible! I immediately said to myself that is a lot of SNOT! And you did a great job calculating everything. That is always a good feeling when it all comes together like that. I can't wrap my head around it. Kudos! -
While we constantly want new stuff, obviously since they will always do a soft reboot (like star wars) if this is around long enough, new kids will always get interested. Which means, we will ALWAYS have stuff with movies 1 and 2. They will never go away. Those are the most iconic for kids since it isn't as dark as the later stuff. And the interview mentioned the transition to sand green wasn't just for the anniversary? But if the new soft reboot is going to have modular builds and be different from the last 2018-20 series, wouldn't the 2022-23 sets also be sand green to match??

Classic space was before my time. I grew up with Blacktron II and M:Tron and the like. This ship is quite impressive though. Tons of details. The size is ginormous. Well done!

Always impressive. The color scheme works well. I love the green accents. The shaping and size is apparant. The clock works really well. The interior is clever (and that sign). Another knock out. Good job.

Look great! The colors work better than expected. My only qualm is scaling. The Blacksmith house being as big as an entire castle... But I get it. It's LEGO and scaling is always weird anyway even in official sets. But seeing that does make me think as as stand alone set, the Blacksmith works well. But integrated into a layout it needs to be much smaller. I do like the towers on the castle. I think that is clever shaping. And the amount of texture on the side works too. That's always my struggle. How much texture is too much before it looks busy, vs looking too bare.

Thanks for the review. The set look great. While I agree, stickers on the windows is no good, I don't think it will keep me from getting the set. I wonder why they didn't print it though considering they printed the same style of window in Diagon Alley. Maybe printing on the rounded piece is just as difficult as applying a sticker! One smack my head part was when you were showing the figures and talked about Harry spying on them in the room, I thought Mr. Flume was Fudge...haha. The older face made me think it. I was thinking I don't recall Fudge being so colorful with his fashion choices when I watched the movie. Maybe my HP knowledge is suffering also! haha

[REVIEW] 76389 Hogwarts Chamber of Secrets
TheLegoDr replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the review. It looks neat overall. I will prefer 2018-2020 versions, like so many others, but this seems to work okay. I like the idea of using it as a generic classroom or something else (if you wanted to connect them). The figures look great. I will definitely like picking them up, and the new creatures too. I think the Slytherin head in the Chamber looks good, but I'd want a larger scale version to truly appreciate the Chamber. I will get it, but I'm torn if I'll consider building it vs parting it out. I've been wanting to do a larger scale Hogwarts, but I feel so many probably do it, it won't be unique anymore.- 12 replies

[REVIEW] 76386 Hogwarts: Polyjuice Potion Mistake
TheLegoDr replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Looks great. Thanks for the review. I do like getting some new characters (even if they are really the trio in disguise). I agree getting some variety in robes would be nice. I'm not sure how they choose what to put where. I'm guessing by repeating the torso x2 saved them money? The bathroom area looks pretty solid. And the toilets fit well for how they were in the LEGO video game. -
Amazing! The drawbridge is really clever! The colors work really well together. I really like the window trim with the curve macaroni tile and the rounded section right before the roof/gable area. Well done, I'll definitely look back at this for inspiration. I really need to start building castle stuff again (I've been too hung up on Modular building lately).

Interesting set. Is that light aqua on the building? And I thought the watermelon head was decent. I ordered a handful because you never know when you'll need a watermelon head. That car is ugly. But I guess it works. The ice cream cone is clever and looks better than how they used to make them.

[REVIEW] 76387 Hogwarts: Fluffy Encounter
TheLegoDr replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
Thanks for the review. I'd pass on the set otherwise (even though HP is my favorite theme). I don't need the figures. But I'll end up buying it anyway so I can keep my collection complete. It has potential, but as a stand alone set, nah. Combined with other sets or part of a MOC, I could see it being useful. -

FRIENDS 2021 - Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to BrickBob Studpants's topic in LEGO Licensed
In universe, the apartments are above the cafe. But the exterior shots of the apartment building makes it a corner building and in no way would ever be able to accommodate the shape of the front of Central Perk. If you google it, you can see the real building they used for external shots in New York. It looks cool. I tried making my own version to also accommodate the shape of Central Perk. I was not as pleased as I could have been.
