Great rockwork. I'm always impressed by that. I am still surprised by how many people that haven't seen the extended editions. I've only ever seen the extended editions, so it puzzles me. They are far superior. And honestly I've never noticed the multiple endings of ROTK that people mention... But great build! Great use of the GITD teeth. Very fitting.

Thanks to spending our anniversary in Kansas City, we made a special trip to the LEGO store. I bought: Iron Man Showdown Lone Ranger Cavalry Lone Ranger Comanche Camp Lone Ranger Stagecoach Lone Ranger Colby City Lone Ranger Constitution Train Large pick a brick cup Build a minifigure Springtime Scene (and free Splinter keychain which I will hopefully be able to sell). I didn't buy the Mine because it seems like a pretty big letdown compared to the rest of the line. Thanks to the LEGO store, I was able to get these. Even though they were "released" on the 15th, no other stores around have them yet. One thing to note, on the Stagecoach box art is a mistake. The figure Barrett is actually the figure from The Mine set in the little figure picture, but the figure on the stagecoach is the correct figure in the set. Odd how LEGO missed that. It's a pretty big mistake. Similar to their Artic Batman instead of Arctic Batman. With these higher profits, they might want to invest in a proofreader.

I have no idea what this should represent, but most Super Heroes sets I don't build anyway. They are primarily figures only for me. As far as this set goes, it is probably the best bang for your buck as far as figures go, since it is cheaper with 3 main characters (with that armor and gun). I am definitely debating if I get this or the larger one, but I won't be getting both. Last year I was a completist, this year I am buying a lot less in terms of complete series. The Superman looks decent, but i don't love the printing as much. Zod is decent, but I agree the brown beard with black hair is interesting. I guess they are going for the look of most people having a redder-brown beard than their hair. Odd how facial hair does that. Lois is not very appealing, but I may consider picking it up anyway. If I end up getting the larger set, I doubt I will bricklink Lois later. Thanks for the review. It is informative. It will lead me to choosing the right set from the theme.

I think at first I was paranoid as to what other people thought, but it doesn't bother me anymore. I frequently feel the packets at stores, and as far as I can tell no weird looks are sent my way. No one has questioned who the sets were for, but if they asked I would tell the truth. Recently at TRU, I was feeling the CMF packets and a mom and her daughter came up looking at the friends polybags and then started to feel the packets themselves and started a conversation with me. I tried helping a little, but they weren't weirded out at all, which was nice, even though the parents weren't technically into the hobby, but they supported the daughter's hobby. After they left, the little girl came back to tell me she found more CMF in another part of the store. I didn't even see them originally, so that would have been helpful, but I never got a chance to look at them and everywhere I've looked CMF 9 is no longer available. So I guess, that's the thing I'm most paranoid about. Not getting sets before they aren't available anymore, mostly polybags/CMFs. A lot of stores around here haven't got them in and now series 10 is almost out... As far as displaying sets, I have them on random shelves in our basement and our den/play room for our daughter. She definitely likes to play with them and has broken quite a few sets, but I tell her what she can and can't do and has got a lot better about it. She loves the big Hulk figure and other expensive figures, so it's hard to say no, but hard to keep away. EDIT: As far as friends go, everyone knows it is my hobby and most of them think it is cool, even though they don't plan on doing anything with it. But they can appreciate it.

Looks pretty neat. That original set is cool enough, but this is a great update. The use of colors really helps sell the realism. Great find. Good job to the builder.

MOC: Built of my local museum, The Dickens Opera House
TheLegoDr replied to dvsntt's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Impressive work! A very fitting rendition of how it looks today. The only thing to add would be some trees and it would look as spot-on to the pictures as can be. That'd be awesome to sell that. Hopefully you can recoup your costs! I can never imagine spending $1200 on one MOC, even if it was a passion of mine. So kudos on that. Dedication to the fullest. Keep up the good work. Congrats on the front page and the exhibits.- 20 replies

I have never seen the earlier versions before, so that was interesting seeing how much bigger the original set was compared to the latest one. I was considering just bricklinking/building the latest one instead of trying to buy one. But now I almost want the original in the new colors... Good job finding the set you want. I'm sure they will release another one in the future. Iconic SW vehicles are what sells the theme and new fans keeping buying into it all the time so they want to have important sets readily available. I can't predict when a new one will come out, but I'm sure they will eventually. I may wait for that also since I'm only a casual SW fan.

I feel weird that I didn't even notice the snow in the pictures... I do like this figure and I haven't purchased any SW sets this year to be sure I could get the promo figure. I won't buy enough to get multiples like TC-14 last year, but I will be in for one for sure. Thanks for the review. It's a great looking figure.

Lego Superheroes 2013 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CorneliusMurdock's topic in LEGO Licensed
I am not loving the new Superman sets, but at the same time I'm not really into Superman usually. I realize they are the main characters, but to get 3 sets with 2 of the same characters in each one, doesn't make me want to get all 3 sets. I agree with many others that I will probably pass one the cheapest and the most expensive and get this since it has pretty much everything you need. I realize there are other people in the large set, but for the price I can't imagine it being that much better. Thanks for the pictures otherwise. -
I don't see any reason for them to abandon the new mold in favor of the old one (since they already put a lot of money into the mold) and they wouldn't do an old tv series since they have a license for a new movie coming out. That statement is puzzling to me. Either way, these look like some of the best Licensed sets LEGO has come up with. And I know very little about this movie. I think that says something. As much as I loved the POTC movies, the sets were just pretty decent. But these sets seem great.

I had no idea he was 90 (I just looked him up). That is crazy. I also didn't know he was 6'5". Either way, I do like these new sets, but I'm not as excited about them as the initial wave. I will definitely get them and I don't love multiples of certain main characters, but multiple Gimlis actually works a lot better than multiple Aragorns (in the same outfit). Extra dark red torsos works great for a little army. I can't wait until next wave, I am hoping for bps also!

I really like the idea. It helps incorporate a lot of story into a relatively small build. I especially love the mini Helm's Deep, much like everyone else. I have really been into mini building mostly because it keeps detail up and storage low. I may have to borrow some of your ideas for my future mini HD, if i ever get around to making one. I need to finish my mini Hogwarts first. Keep up the great work!

Good work on the latest funnies everyone. I think I may be the only person that seemed to have understood TDKR voices. I actually preferred Bane's voice originally before they remastered it and cleared it up. I didn't have any issues. And I prefer Batman's growl, even though everyone else seems to hate it.

Those are great additions to the micro scale community. I love that 2-wide truck. The 1-wide is brilliant, but I love the extra depth and detail on the 2-wide. I may have to attempt this scale. I love micro scale anymore. It is almost the only thing I build in these days. Keep up the great work

Wonderful creation. I'd love to see more Iron Man builds. Both builds seem to be very fitting for the place in the movie. Good job with the Donut Shop too! Keep up the great work.

I love Space Dolls. Reminds me of Spaceballs (obviously), so that is a great rendition. I don't recall seeing it when it was "live." Next favorite is Walking the Walker. I'm not even that big of a Star Wars fan, yet those are most appealing to me. Good luck with finding buyers. Adult sized LEGO shirts ftw.

Do you guys buy multiple of the same sets for play?
TheLegoDr replied to Chri5kng's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I buy multiples of a set if I need extra copies. I bought around 8 of the Escape from Dragon's Prison set, but I was army building so that was the cheapest way to build an army at that time. Plus, it helped they were all on clearance for about half off. If it is a set I really want/need pieces or figures from and it is on clearance I will buy extras. I don't think I've ever really bought an extra set at full value though. And most sets don't require me to buy extras anyway. -
Fixing loose clutching bricks
TheLegoDr replied to super curry max's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I've actually heard that keeping bricks clutched for too long will actually make them clutch stronger over time. It is logical that it could stretch the plastic though, but I've heard differently. I've never actually tested the theory though. I do have my King's Mountain Fortress set built for probably close to 20 years, but I haven't checked to see how clutchable they are. Granted it would probably end up being different plastic used, so the results wouldn't really change anything. As far as not sticking like they used to, well that happens with everything. I have plenty of new bricks that don't stick that well and plenty of new bricks that do (same goes for older 15+ years) the same. I agree about hands, usually there is a crack somewhere, although I have some older minifigures with loose arms, but not visible cracks. So it's tough to say.- 42 replies

I've been busy with work so I haven't been on the site in a little while. I've been waiting to be included in this community.. Good joke. I actually didn't find it annoying or troublesome and I wouldn't necessarily think it was because I am already in "America." I looked at the content and rolled with it, whether it was a joke or not. I try not to take things too seriously usually. Being worried about stuff all the time will make you re-evaluate a few things.

I bought Slave I and a second copy of London Escape. I couldn't justify double of the other POTC sets, even though they were good prices. I got everything for about half of what retail was, so I was pleased. I've been wanting a Bossk figure and why not just buy a whole set for him instead of just ebaying him individually.
-
Building routines..it varies I think. It depends where I may be in the house. Last night I built the latest Slave I (a Craigslist purchase) on the dining room rug while my 3 year old "helped" casually and watched shows on my kindle fire. I normally end up building on the floor since it is an endless amount of space, but then my back ends up hurting from hunching over looking for pieces or at the instructions. If I'm in our den, then I usually stand and build since I have LEGO displayed on tall shelves. I also try to match up what I'm building with something I'm watching, or vice versa. Otherwise I find myself not in the mood for a particular theme. I guess technically I haven't really built many official sets, but my daughter has been wanting to watch Harry Potter, so I picked up my Hogwarts MOC again since I was "in the mood." As far as the build goes, I go bag by bag and build in that order and usually create piles of similar colors or similar pieces to help along the way. It really depends on if I want to build it quickly or take my time. I did recently buy Tower Bridge, so who knows what my routine will be with over 4000 pieces...probably take months to build that one.

This is interesting. To save space, I've actually been storing my plates off-set by one actually, just so I know they are all together instead of trying to search for random 1x4 plates, etc. I guess if they gain or lose clutch, then I will find out in the years to come. As far as bricks go, I haven't stored too many stacked together, other than the random pieces I was too lazy to separate. I just feel it is easier to find every piece I need in that size when they are all together like that. And most of the sets I want to keep together, it wouldn't bother me if they gained clutch power over time. That just means they will stay together easier.

The Cheetah is a brilliant design. I'll have to wait for an official (yeah, right) since I won't modify any pieces. The scene is a nice layout. I don't know much about WW personally, but this seems fitting. I do like the pillars and the foliage. Keep up the great work!

REVIEW: 71001 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 10
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for the review. I thoroughly enjoy reading these reviews. I can't wait to pick up most of these figures. This may be my favorite series yet (granted I say that with each new series). I love the Roman, the Revolutionary soldier and the Amazon warrior. I will definitely be buying multiples of them and probably a few of the tomahawk warrior too. I'll end up getting one of most of the rest, save the skydiver and paintballer. I'm excited to finally get a baseball glove LEGO style! I would love to find a Mr. Gold, and not because of the rarity. I actually hate that it is rare because his coloring and design makes him one of my favorite figures! I doubt I'll ever find one for a decent price.- 114 replies
