Blast - As in Classic Town from the 80s/90s? Before they made the switch to City? I remember loving the 6379 Riding Stable from 1986. I remember having a lot of fun with 6395 Victory Lap Raceway from 1988, or 6376 Breezeway Cafe or 6396 International Jetport were favorites of mine as a kid. If you are talking about something else, then I don't know. I loved the early 90s of everything LEGO. I had a good assortment of every theme out there back then.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 poll
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
There are some great figures, but I ask also add little underwhelmed for this series. I ended up picking the Bavarian girl just because she looks cute with the hair and outfit. None really blew me away though. If it was as Blacktron 2 Mech, I'd be all over that.- 13 replies

I'm game for more turtles. Granted it is odd since they just can't out with the sets and I don't know how different they could make the turtles to make me want to buy the sets and get repeat turtles again.
-
All great sets though. I picked them up well before I saw the movie because I was excited for western sets again. So movie success doesn't always contribute to life success.

Well, officially, if it is going to be discontinued they will put it up on the retiring soon page. I would imagine it would be nearing its end only because it will be 2 years come this January and a lot of those D2C sets go away at about the 2 year mark. I didn't pick one up, although I liked it. I just grabbed the few figures/pieces I wanted from bricklink and called it good.

I picked up the T-Rex Hunter set from Craigslist the other day. It retailed at $70 and I got it for $30. I missed out on that whole line last year so I was excited to get it. And since the T-Rex goes for almost $30 by itself, I thought it was a steal. With that said, it came pre-built so I didn't have to put it together, which was odd. I normally have a ziploc bag full of pieces and the instructions. But as far as I can tell, that is one of the worst designed LEGO sets I have dealt with. The top rotors and the engine hull seem to want to fall off whenever I pick it up. The black arms on the dino grabber seem to pop off just by looking at them. Not sure how the designers got away with this one, but not the best set. But the Dino looks great by itself. Granted, his body parts come off quite easily also. Maybe I just got a defective set, like I said, it was on Craigslist. But not the best set there is. But I can't argue about the price.

The article writer is not the most informed. I think if she did some research, then she would realize how even with specialized pieces you can create unique and imaginative builds. I suppose she wants only standard 2x4 bricks to build everything in the world with and our mind will have to fill the gaps. Because that is the only creative thing to do... And her saying the new Architecture set aimed at adults doesn't even have instructions...it has a large 272 page instruction manual from the leading Architecture designers at LEGO. I'm pretty sure she has zero knowledge on what she is writing about, but because most of her readers probably don't either they will blindly follow what she says. Good thing the comments are going against what she wants. As far as what I've heard in the past mostly involves asking me why I "play" with LEGO. I don't play, I build. I should start playing I guess just to appease them. Get out my cannons and have some Pirate-y goodness.

Want to Trade City & Space Figures for Castle Figures
TheLegoDr replied to natesroom's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Photos would be ideal. Space figures that would be needed for me would be M-Tron, Ice Planet, and Blacktron 2 the most. Maybe some Spyrius. Classic Space would be awesome as well, but those are harder to come by. -
I think as long as there is any damaged LEGO, you can request replacement parts. They may ask for proof of purchase, but typically will work with you (if it is in stock). With that set, more than likely they should have pieces to replace. As far as the box goes, that is a bummer. I love collecting my boxes because of the artwork. Granted, I never look at them again. They are just stacked against the wall beside a heavy tote. It sticks out about a foot and includes dozens upon dozens of sets from the last few years. But the damaged boxes end up getting recycled, so not a huge deal. The only time I ever received a damaged box was actually from Shop at Home. All of the other online purchases were fine. Granted, I haven't bought any sets from eBay before, only minifigures.

Sweet! I haven't been so lucky in finding bulk LEGO. I had an assortment of all of the late 80s/early 90s Space sets, but none of the larger sets. I'd love to get the flagship set of each of the old space themes. Have fun with your LEGO!

As comical as the above story is, it probably is best to not link the "addiction" of LEGO with the addiction of drugs. As far as I am aware, LEGO don't negatively impact your life or health..unless you step on one.

Best Minifigure Display Cases Available?
TheLegoDr replied to BrickG's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Does anyone have pictures of their cases "live?" It could let others (myself included) see how it would work for our individual settings. I've heard golfball display cases are good, but do any of them have glass/plexiglass in the front to protect from dust? The brick display cases look great, but I think it would get costly in the long run. I picked up a couple of those multi-colored separated display cases that Wal-Mart had for sale years ago. Each one held about 16 and they had LEGO plates slide in and out of each compartment. Those work great and kept the dust out, but they aren't easily located since then. And again, can be quite costly in the long run. -
Missing/damaged parts or minifigures in new sets
TheLegoDr replied to Tariq j's topic in General LEGO Discussion
At least that is why TLG is placing the figures throughout the build. But it still doesn't prevent people from trying. I haven't really ever checked the box. So much so, that once at Wal-Mart I had the last Millenium Falcon. I ordered it "online" so they held it at the store for me. I went to the customer service area to pick it up and didn't notice it had a huge hole in it until I got to the car. For some reason I assumed they would check the product to make sure it was in suitable sellable condition...but that's Wal-Mart for you. I was in the car by the time I noticed it had a hole in it and the only Wal-Mart that had it was over an hour away so I couldn't return it (if I wanted to keep it that is). But I kept it, checked it out and nothing was missing, just the box was damaged thankfully. But usually the store will work with you or at the very least TLG will work with you, providing you have proof of purchase. But I agree, the calendars are the worst for that matter. Every single one I saw on clearance was visibly open and pieces missing. On the seasonal advent calendars, I don't know how well TLG could replace some of those missing figures for you. I hadn't looked into that before. -
I'm a minifigure collector so it is upsetting that some of those figures won't be released as they are. It was said to be released would need to have a costume change or color variation. That is disappointing when the exclusive is the figures that looks right and that is the one I would want. I agree there probably wasnt a lot of reason to release these figures in sets at the time, so choosing them as exclusives made sense. But as you can see releasing any figure as exclusive is going to upset people. I had never heard of Spider-Woman before but that doesn't mean I don't want that figure. If it wasn't for Seinfeld, I never would have known who Bizarro was either. But again, that doesn't mean I wouldn't want that figure. LEGO had done a great job with the design and printing of these figures, then doesn't release them to the general public. A major downside, not everyone can make it to the con. Plus if they don't know how to effectively run their booth, didn't help the people who are able to attend. I'm guessing that most people who wanted to go to the Lego booth already knew about the current sets and wanted the figures and to see the reveals, which turned out to be lackluster. With how this all played out, I wouldn't even want to attend the con, at least not the Lego presence anyway. It might be worth it to see the other stuff there, but Lego is ruining their brand, at least to me. I've had enough issues with them that other people haven't experienced so they never understand what I'm going through. I was unaware that you had to be 12 to get into the con, therefore this children's toy probably shouldn't even have a presence since the target age won't see anything. It makes you think that this target age isn't as true as they keep telling us.
-
Well so far I haven't been that impressed with this summer wave and what they 'revealed' for next year, so I kind of hope they continue down that path. It will save me some money. Otherwise, more sets they haven't hit on in a while or ever, I'm all for.

To be honest I think these look even better than the other micro ships you made. Keep up the great work.

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11 Rumours & Discussion
TheLegoDr replied to CM4Sci's topic in Special LEGO Themes
As I'm sure not all Mr. Golds were found, it wouldn't surprise me that they would want to put him in the next series. WIth that said, I highly doubt he would be included only because there isn't any press for him again. And Mr Gold doesn't really equal Mr Green. However, I guess TLG will be sitting on a lot of Mr Golds if they weren't all found, meaning the figure will probably be rarer in the long run. And that stinks that it is August 1st elsewhere and it seems September 1st in the states since they weren't up on the website earlier today. -
It is really hit/miss it seems. I just end up ordering everything online so I know I will get it. Most of my local stores are random on stocking. I think I saw the Pirate Ship Ambush at one store, but that is the only one I've seen. None of wave 1 are left and nothing Hobbit related either around here. Very peculiar. I'm glad I got the sets when they first came out then.

Review Review: 21103 Back To The Future Time Machine
TheLegoDr replied to Rufus's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That is a nice MOD to the hood. The side gap is noticeable, but not too bad. I may end up trying this out with my own model after I get it. It will depend on what I think of the official set in hand before I go modding it.- 207 replies

REVIEW: 71002 LEGO Collectable Minifigures Series 11
TheLegoDr replied to WhiteFang's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Thanks for another informative review. It really helps bring it all together before we plunge into purchasing. This theme is getting pretty lackluster, but I will still pick up a complete set. I won't be as pleased with all of them, but it's tradition. Definitely no army builders here, so I'll get the one for me and the extra for my daughter on a few figures, but won't go too crazy like I did with series 10 Revolutionary Soldiers. I am definitely unhappy with the distribution numbers. Some figures are worthy of multiples and some are pointless. Most of the 2s are figures I would want more than one of, naturally, so those will be harder to come by. More than likely it means I won't spend as much as I normally do on the series, so I guess that is a win for me. Even though I'd rather spend more and get the number of figures I want. I think overall the Bavarian is towards the top for favorite. Most of them are just meh with me. I like seeing better female figures though. I love the waitress's face with those glasses. The Blacktron Mech is a neat idea, but it does look like a mash up of Blacktron 1 and 2, which is disappointing. I will probably just get the one for the set and not any extras unfortunately. I am more of a Blacktron 2 fan and they already had a Blacktron 2 villain a number of series ago.- 117 replies

They could use a molded head and brick built body like the ninjago dragons. If they could make their wings look better those dragons were actually quite large. I'm thinking more along the Fire Temple Dragon.
-
I think they are still slow to release them. I saw them at a target tonight, but they never got any of the lone ranger sets that came out in April. I think target is really hit/miss. As far as Wal-Marts, no idea. We rarely make it to one because they are on the outskirts of town and the targets are near our house/work. I would say keep an eye open.

Review: 21011 Brandenburg Gate [Architecture]
TheLegoDr replied to bgalakazam's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That is what the light bley pieces represent. At that scale, it would be impossible to do horses that look like horses. That is the point of Architecture sets. Get the idea across on a small scale.- 6 replies

Watched Street Fighter on netflix yesterday. I haven't seen that movie since I was a kid. Funny how they tried incorporating all of the characters and that M. Bison's water-mine release machine was actually set up like an arcade game. I also watched The Man With One Red Shoe. An old 80s movie with Tom Hanks. It was entertaining to say the least, but pretty typical for Tom's early work. I also watched The Musketeer from 2001. It was okay. The fight choreography was entertaining, but I don't picture a bunch of 17th century French musketeers/guards doing some of those acrobatics. But that's just me. And all three of those were just in the morning. Gosh, I must have been bored. Thanks to Netflix instant.

Very creative. I can never come up with an idea to build on, but you did so wonderfully. The ground showing the black substance looks great. The section of the lab looks great and lifelike. And I like the fighter spacecraft too. Very original. The color scheme works too. Keep up the good work. I hope to see more of this story line.
