So, what are Leaf, IP-2 and Zebra?
danth replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'm out of the loop. What does this mean? We still don't know what Leaf and Zebra are? And they aren't scheduled for the first part of 2020? Or am I totally off? -
Something tells me they're not harvesting rutabagas...

I like this a lot. Simple but fun. I really want that rocket booster to be yellow though.

THE PIRATE BAY IS GOING TO BE AN OFFICIAL LEGO SET!!!!
danth replied to Another Brick In The Wall's topic in LEGO Pirates
Did anything ever come of the sci-fi head? What did it look like? -
I've been advocating this for years now. One really nice Themed Creator set a year for Castle, Space, and something else (Pirates/Wild West). Each needs to be essentially a parts pack + minifig pack to be successful.

Exactly! But, just like SW, if they made Blacktron toys again, they'd be toys from now, and kids today will have heard of it. True. But they still sell City sets, and Ninjago, and Friends, etc. If they made new Space sets, and marketed them, they'd probably be popular too.

We wouldn't need to repeat ourselves. Look at the catalog of Space sets from 78 to 98. There's 20 years of wildly different Space designs in different color schemes. From Classic Space to Ice Planet to Insectoids. And there's nothing stopping them from doing something totally new in the spirit of old Space sets. Star Wars can't even hope to match that scope. And they can't do anything new either. Instead they just add a red stripe to a dated design and call it new. Super lame.

1) Can we get this for unlicensed Space themes? 2) It's literally the same designs decade after decade. Why is this needed? Why is Star Wars so popular 40 years after the first movies, 20 years after the god-awful prequels? Why don't people want something new and different? I find the need for 20 years of the same designs to be forced, and frankly, sad.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. CLASSIC. THEMED. CREATOR. SETS.

Space Mechs would be a smash hit. It would appeal to Space fans and everyone else because who doesn't love mechs? It's also one of the few space sci-fi tropes that Star Wars hasn't touched. Unless you count AT-ATs or whatever but it's a huge stretch to calls those mechs. Ice Planet is one of the most fondly remembered Space themes, and has one of the best color schemes. Also, just like Mechs, ice exploration is not really a thing in Star Wars. Sure there's Hoth but other than being cold there's no overlap. It's a perfect choice for a reboot.

Is that star made of four pieces? If so those will be put to immediate use in Space mocs; at least as windscreens in microbuilds. EDIT: Found it. https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=35649#T=C

Hah, the baby is a tile! Tile babies! Anyway has nobody mentioned the transparent yellow pieces that make that star? They look like separate pieces anyway. 1x1 tile with one extended corner? Big if true. Lots of uses in Space mocs.

My ideal Space theme would be something that combines a few non-violent adventure tropes that feed back into each other. Like racing, mining, mecha, and treasure hunting. You could have miners drilling for ores and/or power sources used by racers. And you need mechs for mining or loading or even moving around motors in the raceship (heh) workshop. Of course miners would eventually stumble upon ancient relics from some long gone space civilization, and then treasure hunters show up to steal it, and maybe they hire racers to as getaway drivers to escape the space police. I dunno, just brainstorming here.

Nice! I see homage to Xenon X-Craft!

I can't believe Galaxy Squad was 6 years ago! We've been due for another Space theme and never got one. Yet City Space has been right on schedule. I guess licensed Sci-fi themes are just too profitable and in house themes would compete with them too much.

Thanks @hagridshut! Yes, the Stardefender 200 design is iconic! It's my favorite Lego space ship, tied only with Starfleet Voyager. I'm very biased though because I actually had both as a kid. I'd like to do a more faithful redux at some point. I've seen a few online and they're all good.

These are fantastic. I like how you basically designed your own theme.

I had a ton of fun on this alt build! It's a redux of the classic 1987 Stardefender 200 from the Futuron series. I used only a single copy of the new Lego Movie 2 set 70849-1: Wyld-Mayhem Star Fighter. Behold the Star Befriender 200: I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I was able to keep the same overall design with a central sloping canopy, dual forward mandible guns, and detachable side pods. Obviously the name is a gag; the set has many "Friends" colors. The pods are about as small as they can be while still fitting a minifig. I don't think I had the pieces to make them any bigger! The rear is a little busy. I decided to use the colorful curvy pieces there for some visual interest. This is a Systar ship after all. I used the small cones as thrusters like the original Stardefender 200. Thanks for looking!

I like the old arctic set colors better. There was more blue, gray, and especially transparent dark blue.

How about some adventure/research style sets that aren't yellow/orange or lime green? Look at all these great designs that I didn't buy because the colors are off putting: I don't want my adventure vehicles to be the color of school buses and garbage trucks. How about something in red, or blue, or gray, or white, or darker green?

Same here! Great job @alanyuppie -
Mods, can we get some action here? I'm not sure I've ever seen this level of rudeness tolerated. I've reported at least one of the above posts.

Which is the best CMF Series? Thanks for playing
danth replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If we had pics of the whole series, my votes might be different. I'm going off the package pics which don't show all of the figures. Me too! Had to vote for 80's guy and the gray space torso. The other series may be objectively better but I'm going with my heart this time.- 182 replies
