I like the parts more than the build for the spaceship. Colored windscreens would have made it something special. I can get boring light trans blue in City sets. That Benny though. That Benny is irresistible. Not sure what I like more. The crazy Classic Space torso, the sunglasses, or the face print.

Sigh. I love this. It's so perfect. Really brings me back to childhood. A few simple parts and your imagination. It was always enough.

LEGO Creator 2019 - Rumors, Discussion, and Speculation
danth replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Pretty much. Expert Creator sets are already themed. They're essentially "City." Buildings and cars. The usual suspects will deny it, but that's themed. So why not expand to Space or Castle themes? Or Pirates? That was my question, essentially.- 280 replies

We need a Friends version of Space. :) To anyone who doubts Star Wars gets in the way of non-licensed Space sets, here are the facts, mostly copied from a past post of mine: The first year ever, after 20+ steady years, that there were no Lego Space sets was 2000. This was immediately after the first ever Star Wars sets in 1999. Then, in 2001 when Space sets returned, they were on Mars. A real world in our very own solar system. Not deep space, not out in the galaxy. Not anything that could be confused with Star Wars. Then nothing for six years while Star Wars movies were in theaters. Finally, in 2007 we got Lego Space sets again. On Mars...again. And just in time not to compete with the Revenge of the Sith sets. Then we get pretty steady Lego Space on the shelves until 2014. Guess what happens the year after? The Force Awakens. All evidence points to some non-competition strategy to keep in-house Space sets off the shelves when there are Star Wars movies being made.

Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
danth replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
I didn't realize how closely these sets were following actual NASA suit colors. I guess I can grudgingly accept that, rather than what I think looks cooler. Still, that sand blue with orange visor color scheme isn't very close to the real training suit, which is dark blue with a non-colored visor. I like it a lot though, and I wish it came in more sets. -

Lego City 2019 - Rumours, Speculation and Discussion
danth replied to TheArturro's topic in LEGO Town
What really gets me is how unbelievably good that light blue & transparent orange space man looks, and how great of a color scheme that is, and how they didn't use that for any other vehicle/set/figure in the line. Like, why did they show they can make an awesome and exciting color scheme, and then pick the most boring colors ever for the actual sets? -

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
danth replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Oh man that is hilarious. It's a water cannon blasting water at the roller coaster riders! I actually don't mind that at all. I'll have to be honest, I'm just not going to read your whole response. Brevity is the soul of wit. There's a lot to talk about with a lot of people and I don't really think one person should dominate every thread. I will just say you have derailed this conversation so successfully that I don't even know what my original point was. I guess it was that I really like Creator 3-in-1 sets, and I want Space and Castle themed ones. No conflict, no stickers, no specific characters, no set story, great builds, multiple builds, etc. This is not hard to understand, so if you don't get it, you never will. Man, this is a really good argument AGAINST Creator Castle sets, unfortunately. They would most likely have brick-built horses, which would probably go over very poorly with Classic Castle fans. I can understand feeling like brick built horses are a step backwards towards the original Yellow Castle or Knights Joust. I really do like brick built animals when they're (IMO) good, like Lion Legend Beast. I could probably deal with a well executed brick built horse. But it would feel weird in Castle. Or maybe themed 3-in-1 Creators sets would just have to allow horses and other small animals that aren't brick built.- 55 replies

R2-D2 isn't a minifigure. Like minifig scale dogs and horses, or those crappy Mars Mission aliens, he's something, and not brick built, but not a minifigure. I'm not sure what to call him. You mentioned "play value, storytelling value, and collectibility". Popularity gives a good idea of how the public rates those. Popularity pretty much single handedly determines collectibility.

Most people are familiar with ninjas and dragons and samurai. Not three tailed foxes. I had to look it up. Apparently they're called Kitsune. According to wikipedia, three tails is a pretty particular number for Kitsune. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kitsune

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
danth replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I'll just keep judging sets on their own merits and you can go ahead and judge them based on some text you found somewhere. Anyone can see the difference between the above and the below: There is an important difference between a dinosaur standing next to his last meal in a series with no story, and war machines literally shooting gatling guns at battle bugs in a theme about war. You can write 15 paragraphs to muddy the waters, but I don't think you're convincing anyone. Oh no, a creator set of a pirate themed roller coaster included a boat cannon. The walls are caving in on me! You've totally proven how the Creator theme is totally violent! Here's a question. Does the box show it shooting anything? Does it even come with projectiles? I know, it was a figure of speech, but I'm sorry anyway.- 55 replies

Yes, we're all familiar with the concept of things not always being binary, but there's a pretty clear spectrum with a minifigure on one side and a completely brick built character on the other. Ideal for who or what? Separating them by what parts they use is not arbitrary at all. Disagree completely. And so does the Lego buying public. Minifigures are way more popular than brick built.
-
Agreed. Brick built anything is not a minifigure.

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
danth replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I think it's pretty obvious what I meant, and you've really gone off the rails here into pseudo-intellectual territory. A dinosaur set with a blurb about a rib cage is proof that the Creator line is inherently violent? Are you for real? The fact that you have to go into the blurbs from some advertisement is proof enough of how right I am. ZERO Creator sets have had armed minifigures from different warring factions shown fighting on the box cover. Creator sets are about the build and the model, and generally have a couple minifigs if any to drive the vehicle or live in the house but not to fight. No action gimmick shooters or anything. That's what I meant, that's what everyone including you knows I meant, and the fact that you dredged up a Robo Pod with a laser gun from 2006 shows that you don't really care about having an honest discussion but are desperate to prove some point, I don't know what. A robot with a laser gun isn't at all what I'm complaining about. So now you're arguing with yourself? You previously said this: You're losing it man. I don't know what your deal is. I just want Creator style Space and Castle sets. I have no idea why that offends you so much. You don't have to reply to everything I post to tell me I'm wrong, but when your reasons contradict each other, that reeks of bad faith.- 55 replies

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
danth replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
That's gonna be a no from me, dawg. That means something licensed or violence oriented. Creator sets are about the build, and don't require a narrative or action gimmicks, so I'll stick with Space & Castle in Creator rather than vice versa. I'd rather not wait until Star Wars/Harry Potter movies are out of theaters. That is a good point. I'm not sure Lego could get away with it. Maybe a single Space & Castle Creator set a year could somehow wriggle through some exception.- 55 replies

Is Creator's Three-In-One Line Underappreciated by AFOLs?
danth replied to Digger of Bricks's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I really like the Creator Three-In-One series. All the airplanes, helicopters, robots, and dinosaur sets have been totally awesome IMO. It might be underappreciated by other AFOLs who don't realize how great the sets are. But for me it's probably my favorite series due to it being a more "real Lego" experience for these reasons: No licensed characters or stories; everything is up to the imagination No Stickers, yay! Alternate builds, just like they used to have on the back of the box No large specialized parts YES!!! Agree! I think the best thing Lego could ever do is release a Space and Castle themed 3-in-1 Creator set each year. Guarantee they'd sell like gangbusters.- 55 replies
