  1. THAT IS AWESOME!
  2. This is awesome. I forgot just how huge those transparent quarter panels are.
  3. I think it's a good idea, and people would buy tons of them. The previous people packs have included multiple small builds. So its not like these wouldn't come with appropriate pieces for building out a theme. For instance, toss in some transparent yellow or green windscreens and printed computers in a Classic Space people pack and people would be all over it. I guess the question is, if LEGO isn't interested in giving us Classic themes anyway, why would they bother to give us themed people packs? I think LEGO would only go for it if they had the potential to make money. And I think they could -- people are willing to pay for minifigs. Most AFOLs who like Classic themes would see these as a godsend. For instance I bought like 15 of Benny's Space Squad. I think this idea could pair extremely well with CLASSIC. THEMED. CREATOR. SETS.
  4. I've now heard both arguments on Eurobricks: AFOLs don't matter because they already buy LEGO sets. AFOLs don't matter because they don't buy enough LEGO sets. Obviously both arguments are ridiculous. Every business wants to get new customers, and keep existing customers.
  5. My bet is that they don't want Space to compete with Star Wars, Castle to compete with LotR and Harry Potter, Pirates to compete with PotC, etc. Until those licenses fizzle out we're stuck with them instead of Classic themes. I think our only hope for Classic themes is CLASSIC. THEMED. CREATOR. SETS. as they could do one big one for each theme per year and not hurt sales of licensed sets too much. Since Creator sets are already 3-in-1 then you'd really get 3 sets per theme and if they're big you can get enough minifigs.
  6. Winner: Viking Most totally rad: Dude with righteous mullet and keytar Most surprisingly nice: Olympic Javelin thrower Biggest missed opportunity: Knight that should be a Black Falcon not a Yellow Raven Biggest missed opportunity runner up: Space cap that should have been Classic Space
  7. Nice! I've always wanted to see someone try out this piece for the red stripe but I'm not sure if the shape is perfect:

  9. So about this Rocket fan girl... Any more details on her hat and torso? Is the Space logo on her hat Classic Space? What about the torso color and print?
  10. Totally agree. Space not selling? Try finding Benny's Space Squad anywhere! It's the only set I never see anymore in stores. Every single set goes on sale if you wait long enough. I see licensed (including SW) sets on sale all the time. Mark downs don't prove anything. Neither does a theme only lasting a few years, like you said. This is just a made up nonsense argument backed up by nothing.
  11. I can lay it out for you guys. Non-licensed Space sets are absolutely not allowed to exist while Star Wars movies are in theaters. The first year ever, after 20+ steady years, that there were no Lego Space sets was 2000. This was immediately after the first ever Star Wars sets in 1999. Then, in 2001 when Space sets returned, they were on Mars. Firmly set on a real world in our own solar system. Not deep space, not out in the galaxy. Not anything that could be confused with Star Wars. Then nothing for six years while Star Wars movies were in theatres. Finally, in 2007 we got Lego Space sets again. On Mars...again. And just in time not to compete with the Revenge of the Sith sets. Then we get pretty steady Lego Space on the shelves until 2014. Guess what happens the year after? The Force Awakens. And we haven't had a Space theme since, for 6 whole years! All evidence points to some non-competition strategy to keep in-house Space themes off the shelves when there are Star Wars movies being made.
  12. They still keep making sets that no kid wants though, like Sand Crawlers. A Sand Crawler is just a big ugly brown box. It's just a throwaway background design from a 40 year old movie. It wasn't in the prequels or the sequels. I guarantee you that there's not a kid in the world that wants that set. Kids want spaceships from the newer movies. It's really only for adult SW collectors who want to upgrade their old Sand Crawler. So it's actually a super niche set, and it only exists because the SW fan base is so reliable at throwing money at anything SW. It's pretty sad really. Lego is taking the easy money and as a result we don't get fresh, creative, colorful non-licensed space sets, and won't as long as there is a licensed alternative. This is why I hope the SW movies continue to suck. Maybe they'll finally go away forever.
  13. Yep, definite buy for me! With this and the Creator pirate ship, it might be a good year for fans of Classic themes!
  14. I think there is a distinction between an AFOL and an adult who will occasionally buy licensed Lego if it's from a movie/show they enjoy. The latter is not really a fan of Lego per se.
  15. Sorry I was being kind of facetious there. I kinda like to make fun of SP3 for being not true "Space". It does have a cityscape in the background on some of the boxes though. Actually looking at a few different boxes, it seems to take place on or around Earth's moon, with at least once moon city in bubble.
  16. Ah, I think I'm seeing the source of confusion: That [3] is after the period and on the next line! That's not how you cite something. Super confusing! I'm not sure if the [3] is supposed to be attached to the 10% number (in which the citation should be one the same line and before the period, probably right after "tenth euro") or the 16.8% number (in which case it should be after it). Honestly it makes more sense if the 10% number came from [2] not [3]. Is general market share info really going to include what percent of Lego sales were for adults? Aha, actually [1] and [3] are the same source, and the 16.8% number was already attached to [1] above in the article, meaning the [3] is probably meant for that as well. I think the 10% of adults number is actually from the BEAT (whatever the heck that stands for) internal market research.
  17. EDIT: Was trying to edit post but screwed up; posted below instead.
  18. Wasn't SP3 basically Future City? It's basically low Earth orbit flying cars.
  19. I tried to be civil in my response, and didn't mean to convey a tone. I'm just totally bewildered by the responses to these numbers. You guys really think numbers stated in a Lego press release, based on their own data ("Internal surveys" -- direct quote from the article), are totally meaningless? Are just guesses? And Lego is making decisions about what products to sell based on guesses that mean nothing? Seriously? That is an absolutely nonsensical take on all of this. How many times has someone on Eurobricks said "Lego should do this, it would be cool" or "Why did Lego make this, it's lame", only to be told "Shut up, Lego knows how to do market research, so they know what sells and what doesn't, they know what they're doing!" And now, when Lego actually releases numbers based on market research, it's all "Lego's numbers mean nothing, they don't know how to do market research, everything's just a guess!" I'm just calling it like I see it: this is extreme bias against the legitimacy of the AFOL market and nothing more. Okay, but you are literally just guessing yourself here, based on nothing, and using your own speculation to dismiss number Lego came up with. Lego has enough faith in the number to release it to the press, and to make decisions using it. So why would anyone believe your dismissal over Lego's statements? Again, Lego themselves released these numbers, and is making financial decisions based on them. This is not a guess. It's not speculation. The only side that is assuming are the people trying to dismiss the 10% number. How could you possibly know this? Can you site a source? So LEGO decided to make more sets to appeal to AFOLS based on unreliable data? Seriously? The whole argument you guys are making boils down to "Lego's number must be a guess, here's why:" followed by a bunch of guesses and speculation.
  20. I think my favorite might have to be Galaxy Squad. There's a few things about Galaxy Squad I don't like. It's based completely on war for one. Also it uses clear windscreens instead of fun transparent colors. And there's really nothing to connect it to older Space themes. However it had one thing no other modern space theme has: a setting in deep space. This is not on Mars or in low Earth Orbit. You can make up whatever new worlds you want! It also had really amazing designs; in particular: COMBINERS. I love the combiner gimmick! Galaxy Squad had a few of these: On the other hand Mars Mission had some great designs too! SP3 had a great color scheme. I really liked their HQ!
  21. Creative and amazing!
  22. Unfortunate is right; that looks amazing!
  23. It's literally the same layout and colors...I mean yeah the yellow is a slightly different shade but it's obviously a straight up rip-off of the DB logo. Yeah maybe not infringing. I have no idea.
