The Future of Lego Space. (opinions, ideas, discussion)
danth replied to Trekkie99's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Personally I think it's a huge stretch. It means Lego would never make regular Star Wars sets because they wouldn't "measure up" to the awesome UCS sets. It means Lego would never make regular Creator buildings because they wouldn't "measure up" to the awesome Creator Expert buildings. And nothing is more "a theme that has already had so many different takes on it over the years" than Star Wars. I really sounds like "You guys are wrong for wanting Classic Space to come back, for any bizarre reason I can think up, no matter how dubious."- 991 replies

HOLY BRICKS! Sigh. Hmm. Wonder if there's gonna be some way to get those in bulk...

I really like this set by David_Alexander_Smith: The aesthetic reminds me of something out of the old spanish Tente space sets. I mean that as a compliment of course! Related topic:

Awesome! I think the clean look is better on the smaller ships like this one. For larger ships, you need something to break up the larger surface areas. Does that trans yellow side window piece/panel exist as a real piece?

I can't fault you for long posts. A good long rant or rave can be fun to read. Sorry if I got too personal. I just think you have an obvious bias in favor of TLG, and not in favor of AFOLs, that's become apparent over the history of your posts, and I don't think it's unfair to call that out. There's nothing wrong with being biased whichever way. But it's there. I'm biased too. I want Lego to do more Space sets even if they lose profits... Yeah, this. Let us vent! When someone is venting, that's not a great time to tell them why you disagree. Sorry. Got a bit passionate there. @Aanchir is a good egg. With a bias opposite from mine.
-
Your feelings are just as valid as mine. I probably wouldn't care about Star Wars if it wasn't a zero sum game between Star Wars and Space. Make no mistake, for whatever reason, Lego will not have them both competing against each other.
-
Yes, and so verbose. TL;DR... There are a few such members here. Yeah. Seriously @Aanchir, it's like you have a full time job defending Lego's actions against any complaint no matter how small. When I see one of your posts, it's like "Here we go again. Who has besmirched Lego's good name this time." I mean, is there ANYTHING that Lego has EVER done, or could do, that you don't like? Can you name one thing? Are they an infallible god to you? Anyway back on topic. Get rid of Lego Star Wars. It's the same tired designs over and over. Talk about a broken record.

I really hope so. At least Benny's new ship, even though it's kinda weird with the crystal thingies.

Thanks! Although using 3 copies of 2 different sets is basically cheating... I'm not sure how to improve your design without drifting further from the original set. I might like your 2018 iteration slightly more now that I looked at all of them. I think I prefer the slightly curved top of the 2018 version over the flatter recent version.

Not a chance.

I like it. Very clean design!

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion
danth replied to Fenghuang0296's topic in Special LEGO Themes
It wasn't, I just figured you'd want to know. I'm pretty good at avoiding spoilers online, but man, this movie isn't even out yet and people are dropping tidbits left and right in the wrong threads with no spoiler tags! It's very inconsiderate. -
I'll be the judge of what ruins a movie for me and what spoilers I want to hear. I can enjoy the anticipation of something, even if it doesn't happen. Is that hard to understand? I would add spoiler tags. Thanks.

FWIW, what you said about Balthazar is more than I want to know, and it's not even in spoiler tags. -
Yeah pretty much. Same as the last one.

I don't care how minor you guys think they are, can you not drop spoilers in the SET DISCUSSION thread? -
Well you just ruined the movie for me, thanks dude.

I figured it was something like that. Bummer. What software did you use to create the model?

I love this. If I ran LEGO, I would probably run it into the ground, but we'd get some awesome Neo Classic Space and Castle themes for a few glorious years. Hey, speaking of this, why does Lego have a "Classics" line that has nothing to do with their classic themes?
-
This is awesome. I never really loved those new chunky ski/skid pieces, but seeing them in a transparent color totally makes them work for me. Speaking of transparent colors, they look trans red to me, not trans neon orange. Intentional?

I kinda like the whacky dino-car alt build. The other one is a total cop out of course. Also the David Bowie face paint on those raptors make me want them about 5 times more than I otherwise would. Those hollow tires really bug me, but apparently airless tires are a real thing that look like that.

Lego Movie 2 Space Set (70821 and 70841) Alt builds & Multibuilds
danth replied to danth's topic in LEGO Sci-Fi
Well, here's my last entry into this effort. This required 3 copies of both new Benny sets. I give you the Starfleet Voyager. I think I was able to recreate all the necessary features of the original. I used the printed cheese-slopes in place of the computers. Load 'er up! One thing I will complain about is how shallow the big gray "spaceship starter" pieces are. You would need to build your windscreen 3 bricks tall at least to get your pilot fully enclosed.- 15 replies
