[MOC] Mini Snowgroomer
Gray Gear replied to kodlovag's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
At first glance I wasn't really that impressed, but when I realized there were small functions controlled by levers in the back that changed my mind. This is seriously cool. Well done! -
I followed some of the progress in the WIP topic so I already saw most of this. But what impressed me most in the video was how smooth the doors move, and how precise they close... Very cool to look at. Well done!

I like the first pic best. The way he is standing there, ready to strike... Awesome! I always liked the way IG-88 looked, so I see these models more as big figures and not as Mechsuits

[MOC] Glendalough Monastic Settlement
Gray Gear replied to JanetVanD's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Wow, I think this looks awesome! I like the wall building style you used throughout the whole build. And using countless claws to make the straw roofs is also something I have never seen before. Well done!- 13 replies

thang010146 mechanisms
Gray Gear replied to ord's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow, some of these solutuions are really cool and interesting to look at. To see them work in LEGO is even cooler! One could really do some cool GBC modules with these solutions. -
[WIP] Ford GT
Gray Gear replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is personal preference I guess. I for myself start with the transmission and steering system for the car, because that's what is most important to me, and is the most fun. Since those are always in the engine bay, transmission tunnel and under the rear seats I never had the problem of them being in the way of bodywork later... @Jeroen Ottens Sorry then it seems I misunderstood your description text. My bad. I get what you are saying with the wheel-fender situation. It makes sense as that is often how it works irl, but I don't enjoy the look. I prefer a flush fitment with minimal suspension travel until te tire hits the wheel arch. This is often done irl on modified cars especially, but it often results in cracked arches after a small bump in the road I feel you with the color problems. I am so glad to have (almost) freed myself from that burden. -
[WIP] Ford GT
Gray Gear replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks like an amazing start! So weird to me how you build the body first and do the insides afterward I know this isn't final, but the fitment will need some tweaking imo. The wheels sit very deep inside the arches. Front wheel arch is sitting lower that rear one, resulting in bad fitment on the rear. Flex axle in the rear arch could work... -
I think designing a model this massive digital only isn't good. Creating a 12 meter long technic frame without any real life prototyping will lead to some unexpected weakspots. When designing technic digital it is pretty likely something will not work irl. If you are an engineer who can predict all the problems the weight will cause using calculations then maybe it isn't impossible.

[MOC] Auto-rewind Clock
Gray Gear replied to 2GodBDGlory's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
In contrast to your usual building style the auto rewind is actually very minimalistic Nicely done -
[MOC] Motorized Garbage Truck

Nice MOC. I like the wishbone used for the front edge of the side window. Nice idea! The lifting arm somehow reminds me of the Power Miners Monster Grabber lol -

I don't think anybody here meant to say you should stop posting your MOCs. I for my part only commented because somebody wondered why this MOC didn't get a lot of comments to start with lol -
Efferman's Custom Parts
Gray Gear replied to efferman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's why I prefer LDCad over Stud.io: using flexible pieces is just so much easier and better in LDCad. -
Looks amazing! I really like the way the stone wall on the bottom looks. Do you give all your bricks a little bite before placing them on the MOC? Normally damaged bricks, especially ones with bitemarks look really bad, but here it actually looks not that bad :o

Looks amazing! Such a clean design But to me this looks like the kind of ship that flies upright but rotates 90 degrees to land on its side. otherwise there is no space for landing feet to deploy and no way to get down either lol

I have another title idea: Alderaan At least that was the first thing the picture reminded me of lol

[MOC] Forklift
Gray Gear replied to LegoV94's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow! Very nice video! The forklift seems to allow very precise control and good stability. Seeing it build that box tower and then pick it up too was very impressive. Only thing I really dislike is that the front wheel arches are only mounted on one pin, so they are not really fixed in place and can swivel out of place. -
[MOC] Lexus LC500 EV3 1:8
Gray Gear replied to StudWorks's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
First of all: props for the video! The cut from the car at the beach with calming presentation music to dead silence exept the whining of the motors with the car going comically slow gave me a good laugh (I am very sorry if this cut was not intentional, but I thought it was very funny. I don't want to offend you ) I followed the progress of the car you posted here on EB, and I always thought the combination of EV3 drive and a working transmission was very ambitious for the first 1:8 car MOC. Making a 1:8 car RC with working transmission that works well and drives fast too is a very hard thing to do. I am not sure I could do it myself. So do not be discouraged. Main issue for me is the EV3 stuff sticking out the rear window. That doesn't look nice, but I am sure that's not something I have to tell you. The bodywork so-so for me. The side view isn't bad at all, and I really like the transition in front of the rear wheel arch. The front is good i'd say. I would suggest to use some gray in the headlights as well to give them some more visibility But the rear is really not for me. What bothers me most is the system assembly at the bottom. Looks like a plastic piece on a passat or sth with fake exhausts on it. Overall I think this is a good first try, and I bet you learned a lot while building this. -

@Johnny1360 yeah same for me. I could make some criticism, but if I don't have anything nice to say as well i often choose to not comment at all. I mean, it's a creation that was built with a goal (and a budget) in mind, and it achieved the goal. It is a fun little car. Good! But for more experienced builders like me that is not enough I feel. I need some interesting building technique, stunning looks or something else to catch my interest, and in that aspect this MOC just can't deliver. That's just how it is. -
Looks awesome! I like the color, and the body is nice and smooth. And I really like the way the bed was done My only big problem with this model is under the hood. The real car has a V8 engine with a massive carburator on top. The model has a V6, and the whole contraption behind it is a mystery to me. Like, can you explain what the idea was? Looks really weird imo.

Ferrari Testarossa
Gray Gear replied to Lox Lego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There are parts I really like, and some I don't really like. As expected of your MOCs the overall proportions seem to be very accurate. The huge engine looks great, but the pistons are still visible. You mixed in quite a few system bricks instead of forcing a technic only build. Taillights look awesome! The black and gold looks aspecially badass! It would also be nice to see a bellyshot and a pic with the pop-up headlights up What I don't really like is the look of the rear wheel arch. Using the smaller 13L wheel arches for a 1:8 Model seems to work very well, and it looks good in the front. I will try it too once I get the chance. But that flex axle running over the rear arch piece looks weird imo. The wheel arch slopes inward, and the flex axle above restores the original width, creating a gap in the side of the car that isn't there on the real car. I think it might have been better to place the arch 1stud higher and place the flex axle underneath. The roof construction looks pretty good. You built the A-pillars in a similar style I do them, so without a rollcage to support the roof it should not be very strong. But well, a Testarossa isn't really a car that looks goodwith a rollcage... Overall a great representation of the Testa. Personally I am not a big fan of the testa because it has the "long nose short rear" style I don't really like. But its appearance in Wangan Midnight made me like it a bit more. And the way the Testa driver fixed his broken belt on the fly was the funniest thing ever
