  1. @howitzer yes maybe, but where the bevel is still needed the bevel gears will still have to be used in the future, so its not like the bevel gears are being retired, just maybe less common. True, but I doubt TLG has ever wasted a thought on this. Otherwise they wouldn't dump a truckload of color vomit in every set. That's a much bigger pain, especially for the groups you mentioned.
  2. I think it would be smart to use the new gears everywhere where the bevel is not needed. I mean, whats the point to keep using the bevel version? They cause additional friction and have to benefits in return. But somehow I feel like this isn't going to happen.
  3. Holy F this is sooo awesome! I love the whole look, the Armor, the Face Mask, And especially that custom flag! How big is this figure? I am currently building a Anime Figurine in ~1:6 Scale, so ~30cm, which is already pretty big imo. But this Guy looks like he is a lot bigger still... That Pole is needed for the figure to stand, right?
  4. @Andman Yeah thats was my take as well. Conpared to the old lg/lbg bevel gears these new ones are probably needed, since those were close to perfect. But compared to the newer Tan/Black versions these new ones are probably a noticable improvement.
  5. It could also be because they encountered an engagement problem somewhere. I had the problem in setup like this before that the two bevel gears would engage as well sometimes, which is obviously a problem.
  6. Yes, for most 1:8 supercars you are probably correct, I would do the change for the cars with 8 speed sequential transmissions. But my MOCs all have a 6 speed manual transmission, which has a lot less resistance due to much more efficient construction, and only 1 gear ring being engaged at all times. If you push my cars they keep on rolling quite a bit ,even in 1st gear.
  7. Thank you for making this test! I was considering to replace all the bevel gears in my !manual! 1:8 Supercar MOCs with this new version. But according to this the efficiency increase for a drivetrain that has little load and already pretty low friction will be close to zero? A test regarding a low load scenario with high RPM would be interesting for me. I am currently using the older lbg/lg versions of the bevel gears that had lower friction in comparison to the Tan/black versions. Your test suggets "upgrading" to these will probably be pretty pointless.
  8. Looks awesome despite its small size! I also like the bid guns are still mounted in ball mounts. What are the grey bricks above the ball mount to make the ball shape of the gun mount?
  9. Very interesting and unusual shape, took me a moment to realize where front and where rear is. The use of the yellow pieces in the rear is very cool lloking. Only thing I don't really like is the cockpit window. I would rather have a large transparent piece there, it would look cooler and make it easier to see that that's where the front is,
  10. The way you made that seperation between wet and dry using lbg and dbg is a very nice idea, and it really looks great!
  11. Not bad at all considering the less than optimal parts donor
  12. Looks awesome, especially with that container trailer and double tires on all axles! Well done!
  13. Really cool car. Usually I dont think made-up cars don't look as good (being a sportscar designer is a hard job after all ), but not in this case. The car really looks like a MCLaren to me lol. But since I am not that interested in newer cars the small details and differences will slip through my fingers. I like the interior and how the flex axles are used here Only complaint I have is that the rear looks a bit cluttered, which is really not needed as making a car with original design allows you to shape the design around the bricks, instead of the other way around. Also the exhaust pipes would look better if there was no pin inside them. Is it possible to mount them on pins with stud instead?
  14. Agreed. This is a good change both during and outside of contest times
  15. I agree with @Nazgarot that it is nice to see a lot of active users and projects during "contest time". It is good, makes the forum feel really alive. That is something that could be lost if the contest is split off from the normal forum. Maybe we can just go with a seperate subforum for this contest and have another discussion afterwards about how everybody feels about it. We can still decide if this is a good idea or if old way was better after all after the contest is over
  16. I like the idea bacause you basically can't post MOCs while a contest is going on or the post will be gone very fast. But I do agree the subforum should be easily accessible , so a single pinned link would be good I think. Also I think it would be good to remove the "Hall of Fame" from being pinned to free up some space. It has last been updated like 2,5 years ago, so it obviously isn't very interesting or useful without anything new going on. Just my 2c.
  17. Not pretty but interesting. Also I think it is kind of weird you chose to use a chain to move the "hook rollers" (no idea what that is called). I would have just used string instead for a more sleek, lightweigt and small solution.
  18. It may not be perfect but I think it looks pretty cool with the tractor tires especially. If you are not happy with the build just keep in mind how well the funtions worked and what you learned for your future creations. Even projects one considers a failure will add to your experience.
  19. I think this is a good idea. I never understood why Mindstorms was seperated in the first place. Most Mindstorms builds are basically technic builds with different electronics. I think this will be a good change.
  20. Done, I hope this is helpful.
  21. Looks very true to the original! I mean, the real car looks like it was designed with making a LEGO build in mind, no curves or other problems. But still, very well done. Only thing I dislike is that there is a transparent piece in the rear window, but nowhere else. That looks weird.
  22. Cool machine! And it looks like a nice start!
  23. Time is the most essential when learning how to get good at making MOCs. Patience and determination to rip everything apart again and again to make an improvement is how you improve. Knowing what bricks exist is very improtant too when building MOCs. That's knowledge you gain along the way. Using digital programs like LDCad or Stud.io can help here too, along with the Bricklink database.
  24. I don't really know what this is supposed to mean, but it does look really cool!
