I can't tell if you are being ironic or not... A well designed transmission does not make any sound, exept of the smooth sound of moving gears. But definatelly no gear skipping, it is a sign of terrible design. The only thing I hear when playing with my Honda NSX MOC is the sound of the fake engine running, and the tires on the ground.

[TC18] Codename: Katana
Gray Gear replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Its no suprise the pop up headlights give you trouble. Pop up headlights are the coolest thing ever, but a massive pain to recreate in LEGO. I can remember the troulbes I had with the NSX - and that model is 1:8 scale! Just keep them like they are, and dont feel bad about it. There is a limit to what you can do in this scale.- 20 replies

[TC18] VW Rally Car
Gray Gear replied to Surffikoira's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, as far as I see there is no point to connect the wheels to anything, not even to each other, when they are not driving andything/being driven by anything. But at least the diff looks cool -

It looks pretty good, bit I wonder...Whats the point of the rear Diff if there is no working fake engine? -

Very nice, I like it better that the A model. Good job. -
I always wondered why there are so few technic cars with manual transmissions... I would like to change that, so I made a little guide, maybe it will help some of you. This is meant to help you get going, but not to carry you all the way. This is a small mockup of a compact 6 speed with shift assembly Yellow is power input (connected to the wheels) and red is power output (connected to the fake engine.) It is ideal for a mid-engine RWD car, as the engine can be placed right above the transmission. This is the secret of the "Safeshift" system that I developed. It makes it impossible for two gears to engage at the same time. That means you can shift without being careful, like this: The heart of the safeshift system is this sliding piece, which locks the 2 inactive selector rings in the neutral position: If you want to recreate this mockup and start experimenting a little, here are some pics for you: (Don't ask for instructions please, if you need the then I cant recomment trying this anyways ) The Shift lever contains a 6L bar with stop (piece 63965) I hope you liked it Gray Gear

Evolution or involution?
Gray Gear replied to astral brick's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I agree with most oft your points, but this: "opening trunk vs. opening trunk and wobbly doors" you might wanna mention 8880 dind't even have opening doors in the first place And this: "4 wheel steering vs. two wheel steering" The real car does not have 4WS as far as I know, so where is your point? But other than that you hit the nail on the head...- 54 replies

I can't say it's recognizable, I am sorry. A V4 in a RX7? Nononononononono. You know that black area an the doors is supposed to be further inside, the door and side, and not on top of it. It's a vent.

Very nice, has a 90s japanese sportscar vibe, and I love it But please change the color of the engine behind the seats to gray, it looks really weird in tan -
I could not care less what brand of bricks the model was built from, as long as they are good quality. It doesn't reduce the quality of the MOC or the skill of the builder. Just be honest about it. It is an amazing model. Good for you that you even made it into production LEGOs Brick palettes just have too many holes, some bricks being unavailable in mainstream colors like red, yellow or black is just a shame.

[WIP] McLaren MP4-12C Spider
Gray Gear replied to starx's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looks promising so far! I only build in 1:8, and I dont like to see a manual car modelwithout a gearbox/transmission, bit I guess that's just the 1:10 style The suspension setup looks solid and will easily ba able to support the models weight. Not sure about the modular chassis idea tho... I for myself never liked the it as it is likely to introduce unnecceary weakpoints to the model. Using the Land Rover wheels is a good decision. Are you planning to use the wheel arches of the white 1:10 Porsche? If yes, what are you going to do about the prints? -
I wish for narrower wheels as well. The wheels we have now are just way to massive. I build 90s sportscar MOCs, and the real front wheels are like half as wide as the ones I am using now. Decreased steering radius, unnecessary suspension desing limitations, decreased interior space, and overall a little funny looks is the result. New wheel width isn't gonna happen imo, neither narrower nor even wider.

I want to know that as well! Please explain. I have 8043, but i cant remember having any issues with the linear actuators in the 2 weeks I had it in one piece After that I barely used them tho, idk...

Firtst of all, If the mods dont like me posting this, feel free to remove it. It might be the first picture of the LEGO model we have in my opinion. I just wanted to tell y'all that I just found this on The Dark Side Of The Brick: Either MK is now seriously trying to compete with LEGO by releasing their own version of the same car at the same time, or they already know a lot more about the LEGO model than we do. The second option seems more realistic to me because MK isnt known for making up new molds and pieces.
