[MOC] 1968 Dodge Charger
Gray Gear replied to nicjasno's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Here I can see the same problem I had with my Nissan GT-R MOC: A huge flat hood made from technic panels/liftarms just always looks not great. I solved the problem on my model by using hood vents to break up the wide open surface. Maybe something like this would look cool? Dont get me wrong, your hood looks ok as it is, its just a suggestion -
I really like the style, the color combo paired with that industrial vibe looks very nice. Is there a cool opening mechanism for the door as well? If yes I'd like to see it

Toyota Supra MK4 A80
Gray Gear replied to Matiss56's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice, the bodywork is flowing very well. Especially the panelling around the front wheel Arches Can I ask for a pic of the transmission system? And maybe an Engine bay closeup too? Btw I am happy someone alse is doing the A80 already, that means I dont have to do it and can focus on other projects . Visually speaking I always liked the A70 Supra better, but I agree the 2JZ is an amazing powerplant and makes the A80 a capable car despite its heavy body. -
No thank you... I just think that the LEGO shocks are not really meant for such an application. In some places I just choose the more strong and reliable solution instead of the more tealistic one.

I think at least the headlights are printed, if nothing else. Doing accurate headlights is hard, I always have to spent a lot of time on the headlights when building a 1:8 car MOC. But taking the easy way out really is pretty boring. I have deciced not to build a car before as well, because I couldn't figure out how to do the headlights. I think the "If you cant do it, dont do it" mindset is something all MOCers have to some extent. But TLG does not think that way.

Holy I totally missed this topic... You blink once and the Topic has already disappeared from the frontpage Those small doorpanels are also new right? Very nice to have! The cars themselves look like a fun little set for the younger LEGO audience, but not a lot more. Is there any chance for suspension?

Yeah ya'll are right i should probably keep the SR20DET. I considered swapping for a 2JZ or a RB26. Only problem is that I already did the RB in my R32 GT-R and I dont want to just copy-paste, thats no fun. And If I should finally decide to do the A80 Supra at some point I'll get the same problem with the 2JZ The SR20DET seems like a very capable engine anyways. Doing a twin-turbo conversion might be an idea but from what I can find on the internet it doesn't seem like a very popular choice. I'll decide what looks better in the engine bay. I odered some of these sting pices with studs at the ends to maybe do some cables. I love doing Intercooler piping and the engine bay in general, I can absolutely understand why the Space guys love "greebling" (is that spelled correctly? idk)

@MinusAndy The USA got f*cked over with the same terrible engine in all the S13 and S14 models, but in Japan even the older 180sx got the SR20DET with the later models. It is said be be a great engine, but I find it hard to do a good I4 engine in the correct scale. I'll have a look in the engine thread again @Mechbuilds Yes I always choose the bricks that work best and here I didn't even try to do a technic front bumper. No point in trying
-
First update: I reworked the front bumper, and I am now much happier with how it looks. I also found a Soulution for the front lip. Dou you think I should do an Engine Swap for this car, or keep the stock SR20DET that came in the Type X? There is more than enough space to drop in about anything you want in the engine bay, but I dont know...

I agree, but what about the Ferrari badges? Are these stickers on the real car as well? Honestly its just embarassing that you buy a licensed set and everything that is licensed can be found on the sticker sheet But since I only build my own MOCs I have to agree that inside the LEGO universe this is a pretty good parts pack for MOCing.

Drift chassis question
Gray Gear replied to Mechbuilds's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Mechbuilds Would there be enough space to mount te servo in front of the Front axle somehow? I you could try to move the Buggy Motors back further for more weight in the rear -
I know that red autimotive paint for example is more expensive than other colors because some kind of special clay is required to give the red color. But I dont think something like this would affect the price of a LEGO product, because the cost of the actual product itself is just a fraction of the retail price. I think TLG just thought most people are still going to buy it for the higher price. And they were right! Its a Ferrari, of course it will sell very well. Its just Like fashion shoes for example, Nike or Adidas can manufacture their shoes for a few dollars in India or china and people will still pay 100 or even 200+ dollars for them.

@Erik Leppen Yeah obviosly these older cars have way less pieces, they dont even try to have closed bodywork. That's just a style development. I dont like the flawed suspension and gearbox on the newer 1:8 cars either, I think that is their biggest flaw. (I dont want to talk about the land Rover, that set shoud have never reached the store shelves imo.) But my point was that the older cars are not that much more advanced that it would be okay to call the newer ones "Not even technic". There is not that much of a difference. If you dont care about looks that is okay, but for me looks are important as because for the most part the car is going to sit on a shelf looking pretty. If it will help my MOC to look better I will not hesitate to dump another 1000 pieces on there. But my suspension can handle the weight @Interceptor I fully agreethat 8880 and company are supirior to the smaller 1:10 cars like this one or the RSR, because they dont even have a gearbox or anything else intresting. I dont like that either. But I dont like it when some people put the other LEGO 1:8 cars or even 1:8 cars in general in the same category.
-
@Interceptor I am just quoting you as an example for a bigger group of likeminded poeple here. You know why you all like these older cars so much better? Because you are nostalgic about them. Thats all there is. 8880 is the only one that has a slight edge in terms of funtion count over the current 1:8 cars. Some of these are more like go carts, they dont even have doors or a roof and these have a very high percentage of system pieces as well. You need to stop holding these older cars on such a high pedestal, take your pink heart shaped glasses off, and look at them in their respective environment and time period. If you look at it like that most of these cars, the older and newer ones, have steering, a gearbox and a fake engine, and not a lot more. Dont get me wrong, I dont think the current 1:8 Supercars are perfect (infact it is the opposite), but these older cars wern't perfect as well. I am just so sick of hearing "This isn't even real Technic" every single time a Car is posted. It is just not nice to everyone who likes buildig, modifying and MOCing these cars. Please dont get offended by this and think about it for a moment about it instead. Thank you.
