General MOC-Discussion, WIP-Help, and Teaser Thread
evancelt replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in LEGO Pirates
I highly recommend my current setup: a cheap $35 24" lightbox tent for bright diffuse light, posterboard for "infinity" backgrounds, and two $8 amazon lamps. The only part I splurged on was some nicer "daylight" LED bulbs for the lamps because I end up taking all of my photos at night once kids are in bed and there isn't a chance for natural light. I just use my iPhone 12 mini camera - seems to work well enough! Then recolored the background in photoshop:- 315 replies

Nice build! Like I mentioned on IG, I love how the arches grow from left to right. Who is the figure in the window on the left? I like that the United Bricks torsos are printed (much better than stickers!) and come in fun colors, but I'm not sold on how complicated the patterns are. I think I'm the biggest fan of BrickGuild, followed by KTown Bricks.

While you again used fleshies in this build , the unique minifig combos really stand out! Excellent dark turquoise accents on the building, they really make for an exotic atmosphere. Excited to see how the other towers end up!

The dark turquoise abounds in Eurobricks member Ayrlego's new build Mokolei Outpost. Set sail for exotic lands in the Brethren of the Brick Seas forum.

Oh good idea!

Thanks! Yes, they help add a fun cartoonishness to the build. Thanks @NOD! Thanks! Becoming a big fan of medium nougat and olive green together. Yes, I was a little scared to include three different scales in the same build, but I think it turned out well. If you look like closely there are micro trees (unicorn horns), mini trees (inverted grass pieces), and regular trees (whale bones & leaves)

[COR-FB] Settling Outside Damaborg
evancelt replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks to whoever frontpaged this! I had assumed the Western version of the build would be the main one, but the BoBS version is getting more attention! Thanks! Was originally going to make two wagons, but the build wasn't quite big enough to not look cluttered. Here are some more BTS shots of the wagon canvas: Thanks! I think the leaves in the water and cirque glacier SNOT background are my favorite details too Thanks! The wagon ended up being 5 studs wide, which led me to lean on 3x plates more than I had planned! Agreed re: tricorne. Perhaps this fellow has unfolded his tricorne flaps for maximum sun protection Thanks! Yes I tried to pull the foreground and background together by using bright light blue for the stream as well Thanks! Excited to see what you come up with for a wagon. I put some BTS shots above in the reply to royalstick You spotted the squirrel! Wasn't sure people would be able to make it out. I need to figure out a better way of shooting photos of a larger build like this one - my phone camera does OK with closer shots and pics in the lightbox, but this one was too big for the lightbox and used a difference phone camera lens. Haha - the mountains around Damaborg look *somewhat* like Colorado I got the idea for this more detailed backdrop from Hunter Erickson / Koschei. He has some gorgeous ones Thanks! Because it is going to be displayed at a museum for the summer I wanted to use Duplo so that I didn't lose all my bricks for the next few months! My kids have a ton of Duplo so I figured they could spare the 100 or so bricks and plates necessary to make the base. Here are some BTS shots of the Duplo brick base: -

Great idea @Ross Fisher! The back of the centaur works well! The roof looks great, and the rounded base pops really well against your dark background -

[GoC] The Covenanter - 28-gun New Terraman
evancelt replied to Spud The Viking's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Stunning ship @Spud The Viking! A definite for GoC from me Overall it is a great ship with a gorgeous shape and colors. When I look closely at some of the details like the sides of cabin where it meets the poop deck it looks a little rough, but overall really nice! Love the base with the start of the island - looking forward to seeing the next harbor module -
Ever since they had left Damaborg proper and headed out toward the mountains, she couldn’t help but think the clouds looked like elephants. -------------- More Pictures: OOC: To be licensed as a small residence in Damaborg. This build will be installed at History Colorado Center in Denver, Colorado for the summer. Crossposted with this western MOC.
