[COR-FB] Standing For Portraits, Spudkirk
evancelt replied to evancelt's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Haha thanks. The tree designs are based off of Friends sets I got for my daughter The hats are custom pad-prints from Brick Guild. You might still be able to get some on their site. They are some fun diversity. I've tried drawing custom emblems on plain black bicorns and it hasn't looked very good. Haha yeah they are a little simplistic, but fun little trees Thanks! Yes I think it's a good thing. I'm not going to use Vidiyo or Batman pieces in their original form often, so modifying them to be more useful is A-OK by me Thanks! Seemed like a little silly thing to add a little color to our stopover point in Spudkirk Thanks @Kai NRG! I've been playing around with a new lightbox that @Ayrlego recommended. It helps a lot, though I'm still working out how to get the background completely white without washing out the white elements in the foreground (the backgrounds here are *almost* completely white ) Yeah those bases are fun. I have a black 8x8 round tile too that could be fun for a non-grass base. Will have to think of a use! -
Private Neville noticed Captain Hardy approaching the spot where he stood. Neville had been standing there for the past two hours while a local Spudkirk artist sketched his portrait. "I say, old chap", the captain said to Neville, "You've found the best light in camp! Mind if I set up right here next to you for my portrait?". The captain's portraitist began setting up his easel. --------------- OOC: Trying out some 8x8 round tiles as MOC bases. Also trying some partially-erased TLG red arms for use on infantry and officers.

Had some grass stems out while deconstructing a MOC

Could be! Corlander scholars have theories, but the truth is lost to the sands of time! Haha in the empty saddles? Haha yeah that's an awkward sentence. I'll update it in the OP Wu's symbol is a lotus, right?! Seems fitting for the Lotii Thanks! Thanks! Thanks! Yeah I got the idea for the wheels when I recently got an animal rescue ATV set for free... was trying to think how the wheels could fit into historical builds Thanks @Khorne! The rider torsos are from the Vidiyo red dragon fig. I'm working on stripping their arms for use on redcoats (see here), but figured the torsos looked interesting too - mixed with some plain dark red arms from SW torsos

[OL - FB] Croc-Links Croc Sausages

Haha great idea! Croc sausage! -
Good looking group - I especially like that artillery! Those harquebuses look like the ones that Ayrlego and I used from the Korean Lotii troops, but those ones were reddish brown - where are these grey ones from?

Flower of the Lotus - Mini Challenge - RESULTS POSTED

My entry for Cat 1 A: Viceroy's Horse Archers and Personal Guard -
Zhu Shizhen, the new Lotii Viceroy for the island of Jīnzi (El Oleonda), brought seasoned horse archers with him when he traveled to the New Haven Sea. The result of centuries old traditions in ranged cavalry, the archers are expert marksmen on horseback as well as swordsmen on the ground when the need arises. They decorate their large sable fur hats with golden flames to make their enemies think they have angered demons. While the Viceroy's personal guard use modern flintlock firearms not unlike those of Madrician line infantry, the archers take pride in being able to loose twice as many arrows per minute as the fastest of musketmen can fire their weapon. ------------- OOC: My entry for the Flower of the Lotus - Category 1A challenge. @Ayrlego and I put together a series of little Lotii vignettes last fall using Korean minifigs - was fun to rethink the Lotii using "purist" parts.

José's Inn - Ye Olde BoBS Drinking Hole
evancelt replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well said -
I'll touch it up a bit, but I think the Vidiyo dragon arms are going to work well for redcoat arms with cuffs once paired with a red torso and black accents
-
Totally! Good find

This is the one I purchased on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KWNYTG9/

I wouldn't attempt this with Brasso or some other solvent like that. Never have had very good luck keeping the solvents where I want them using tape or toothpicks. Instead, I like to use erasers! They leave the surface good as new and don't involve chemicals. Both large rectangular high polymer pencil erasers and electric erasers (used for art) do a good job. I think for this finer detail stuff, I'd opt for the electric eraser. The electric eraser is cheap on Amazon and is basically a lightweight handheld drill that accepts fine eraser tips. Here is the result of one of my Deadshot arms after removing some of the pattern:

Trying out a new technique of starting with official TLG arms and then partially stripping away arm patterns to yield some new designs. My current experiments are with these arms. I'll post again when I've stripped the arms! Deadshot from Batman... could be cool redcoat arm ranks when partially stripped Vidiyo dragon... could be regular arm cuffs for redcoats if stripped down to the bottom of the arm Spider man arms... a red rank chevron on blue arms?

Haha thanks @Feuer Zug!

Thanks! Yeah micros are pretty fun because you have to look at parts differently and there are only so many pieces / parts that are less than 1x1 across that can add textures Thanks yes I'm excited to see what Ayrlego does on Arlintina! Thanks Khorne! My favorite details on this one are the backward SNOT arch on the beach and the scroll bricks for walked-on sand. I was hoping the sideways door rail plates would be slightly lower profile to add some more complexity to the waves / back of the beach, but I guess it makes sense that the rail is 1 plate thick! Thanks Thaum! Thanks! Yeah I tried a few different tent techniques and this one was the best scale. I like how if the two cheese slopes are slightly offset it makes it look like the tent has two flaps.
