  1. Looks like you have a good start. I picked up two of the 75955 and with a few of my own pieces was able to make a nice moc. If you want to motorize then you need to make some adjustments to the tender and add the motor and such. Suggest you decide if you want PF 1 or PF 2 (power functions). PF 2 is blue tooth so that's kinda cool. I'm sticking with PF 1 as that is what all my stuff is already. Suggest you step back and make a few guidelines before getting into this too far. Are you wanting 8 stud wide trains or 6? Lot of builders making mocs now at 8 studs wide. Do you want to run freight or passenger trains? I like passenger and that is what you have above. How much room do you have for track work? See you have some switches, assume for a passing siding for your Harry Potter station. If I were stating out, I would get the newest blue and yellow passenger train. It comes with a motor, battery box and controller. Even has a little bit of track. Could get a feel for things with this entry set and then re-purpose bricks and controls into your own mocs. Try not to get too complicated in the beginning. Nothing more frustrating then a train that constantly derails due to fancy track work.....keep it simple at least a first.
  2. We have a Friends Barn with a few horses. Got a bull with one of the train sets (now a cow as horns are lost). Yes we need more animals!
  3. Come on Lego I need something to look forward too this Christmas season not interested in the Ginger Bread house.......I need a big win here with with new modular!
  4. Was holding off purchasing this a bit as wanting more AFOL's reviews. Is this a good addition to an amusement park?
  5. Picked this up on sale last weekend. Never really care for it from this pictures but was less then $20 so figured what the heck. Really like the Harvester build and side build scare crow. Truck and transporter are nothing special, spare parts for me. Rest of the set is very nice and glad I purchased. Just thought I would share. Hope in the future TLG offers more in the farming line.
  6. I am out of room in my city. Have to pass on this one.
  7. Follow up. Looks like 8 wide is the new standard. Speed Champion sales will be the deciding factor if we stay 8 wide or go back to 6.
  8. Went to my local Lego store last week and saw in person the new Disney train (8 studs wide). It looked nice, but I'm used to all my 6 wide engines and rolling stock. This got me thinking, which direction is TLG going to go in the future. Seeing on Youtube a lot more Lego train moc's 8 studs wide. IMO the 6 and 8 wide trains do not display well together, really need separate layouts to display them. This is the same for model railroading, you typically don't see multiple gauge trains on the same layout. At my Lego store they no longer have on the shelves the current city trains (6 stud wide). They have them still (I checked) they are in the back, store employee just said they don't have the room to display. In the past 2 years I have been visiting the Lego store they have always had multiple city trains for sale in the main sales area. To me the fact they are not displayed means they are not selling. If they are not selling then this opens the door for TLG to try something new....8 stud wide trains. It is hard to gauge (lol) how many more bricks (and thus costs) a 8 stud wide train would have vs a typical 6. Simple math would say around a third. This is a total guess on my part, but lets say if TLG offered the two current city trains (6 studs wide) as 8 stud wide they would be maybe 25% more. I am not sure TLG would sell more at this higher price. Not sure your typically kid or parent really cares if the trains are 6 or 8 stud wide. For AFOL feel they do, with strong options from both sides. So this is where I am struggling......how would TLG offering larger trains (8 stud wide) moving forward improve their sales. Would be interested in your thoughts. For me, I'm staying 6 studs wide as all my stuff is at this size. Will be disappointing any new additions to our railroad would have to be mocs if everything goes to 8 stud wide. As a side note, it looks like the Lego Speed Champions is also going from 6 stud wide vehicles to 8 studs wide.
  9. I was thinking the same thing!
  10. Good use of the bricks you had on hand.
  11. I wouldn't complain if your moc is selected as the winner!
  12. Your interior details look amazing. You really worked some magic in there! Wish you were able to get some color variation in your roof to break things up a bit. Did you explore placing a few random tiles and cheese wedges here and there on the roof to give it some detail and age?
  13. For me, 8 wide cars are just to big. I know you can really increase the detail, but in a city environment they just don't look right. For my city, cars are 4 to 6 studs wide, trucks 6 to 8 and big trucks 8 or larger. Kinda looks odd with a 8 wide truck sitting at a railroad crossing with a 6 stud wide train. My Speed Champions are all 6 studs wide. Have an old Speed Racer set, cars are 8 studs wide. They really don't display well together. Hopefully TLG will offer both 6 and 8 stud wide new vehicles in the Speed Champions line.
  14. I don't have road plates in my city for this vary reason. Its your city, do what makes you happy. Suspect someday you will swap them out with the Lego ones. It just happens. If you own the Parisian restaurant, if you reverse build it (steps on the left) would look nice next to your water fall.
  15. Seeing more and more 8 stud wide trains. This this the way of the future? Regarding your moc, it looks good. For my taste I think I would leave all the light gray bits from the floor and rails dark gray or black. Would want to show off the green a yellow a bit more.
  16. You would never be able to repeat this. Fantastic!
  17. FYI....my wife is going to be not happy with you. Before Lego displays in our living room were regulated to only Thanksgiving thru New Years (Winter Village). Now kids and I got to do a Halloween display...... What fun!
  18. Yes, a lot of the sets TLG is currently offering are beyond what a typical child could save up for. The fact that TLG is offering these shows others are purchasing these sets for these kids. This is working for TLG so I don't expect anything to change. In short, have a beer and don't worry about this. Things seam to always work out in the end and feel confident should the market place change TLG will adjust accordingly.
  19. Thank you for your thoughts. Agree if you are displaying the set, power functions is a must. We are leaning more toward adding it to our city.
  20. Been watching your City Updates for a while now. Looking good. You city like mine needs to be very kid friendly. You seam to do a better job them me keeping your presentable.
  21. Looking for some honest feedback. I'm like many of you with too much Lego and running out of room to display. That said, got my kids the pirate roller coaster and the big carousel this summer and we are adding an amusement park to our city. Been eyeing the Ferris Wheel that was just retired 10247. Having trouble determining if its really a good add to a Lego city. It looks huge! Assuming a lot of members on this forum purchased this set. As a few years have gone by since is first came out do you think it was a good purchase or do you have buyer regret? I usually lean toward buyer regret then missing out on a set I'm on the fence on (hence the too much Lego issue). Looking for some feedback before we make the call on getting/passing on this one.
  22. Has TLG come out and said all Speed Champions sets for 2020 will be 8 studs wide? Hoping its a blend of 6 and 8 wide cars for next year.
  23. Lot of good points brought up in this thread. My answer to the question should TLG take a break on Star Wars.....a firm NO! I look at it this way. If they offer a set I already have and its better, I'll purchase it and improve my collection. If its basically the same or a step back, I'll pass. No harm for me and even if I thinking my old set is equal or superior there are a lot of new collectors and kids that will be thrilled to get this re-release. Heck I wish we could order direct from TLG all the discontinued sets. I don't need fancy boxes or even instructions....just dump the bricks in a bag and send my way. Wouldn't that be nice. Regarding there being a break in new Star Wars movies over the next few years.......IMO Disney has never seen a dollar they didn't like so more movies are coming sooner then you think.
  24. I like this better then the Corner Garage. I would buy this, know TLG would never build if submitted thru Lego Ideas but still can wish. Excellent job.
