Along with the other compliments mentioned I really like the way you used the log torso with the palm tree trunks -
[Merrymas] Organising a BotBS Advent Calendar
Roadmonkeytj replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Darnok I would love to commit however I have too much on my plate ... I've got two trains to finish and photograph and two buildings to test build and Instructions done. Plus work is crazy right now ... We are running skeleton maintenance crews with full production -
The Phoenix's pockets run deep. I think @NOD is challenging us rats to be civilized in our Pirate Capitol Refuge! Well done again.

Doh! ... I just realized how you connected it lmao ... Very creative indeed ... Love it once again!

So the more I look at this the more I want one ... I can reverse engineer the front from looking at it but the rear end is getting me ... Are the fins simply resting in panels or are they attached ... I did notice the upside-down "rear quarter fender".

Ohhh I love this

Some picture frame wire inside your tubing will help it hold it's shape ... Have you noticed any added friction using the black pins? I've considered that swap myself. Definitely will be updating mine with your mods! Thanks for sharing.

Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Roadmonkeytj replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Not a dig at all ... Implying I came to a room where there's more knowledgeable than me lol I toyed with the idea of adding a second gun deck but then like you said it veres drastically away from the BSB quite quickly at that point. It's a good looking Lego ship and my fear is it will soon suffer the same fate that my black pearl did ... I will stare at it and stare at it and never be happy then modify it to the point it no longer resembles the set then eventually it will go to the parts bin lol. As it doesn't look like the real ship nor the Lego version. I think I might like a frigate the narrow rear reminds me more of a galleon though. I considered this as the narrow rear reminds me of that style of ship but I feel the ship is not decorative enough to be Spanish lol To both of you : if I went more towards a light frigate I would need to lower the cabin and open the gundeck up correct? or more towards a dutch frigate I would need to lengthen the rear cabin an add gun ports then add a second deck above that correct? Or am I muttling my reference pictures? -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Roadmonkeytj replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks all for the input! @kurigan the original intent of the exercise was to acheive a sleaker rear cabin to look less toy like without completely redoing the look ... I will see about raising the gun line up If you are the smartest in the room, then your in the wrong room - confucius -

It was bound to happen ... I have been playing around with the baracuda in LDD trying to figure out how to lower the cabin I managed to lower it two bricks ... Then my brain sent me down a rabbit hole and this was the result ... Im not sure if I should proceed or scrap it at this point ... Thoughts? -

Roadmonkeytj replied to dtomsen's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Dennis - I've really enjoyed watching (and helping) these come together ... I still think the maroon Litra MZ is my favorite. I can't wait to see it pulling those coaches you've been working on! -
Murdoch ... Seeing these for the first time ... Your giving me ideas to use my own adventure parts too This looks great well done in a playful way ... Loved the back story.

Those spud shooters are proving effective ... Admiral Larvey will be in touch ... -
Thanks I built it to be compatible with the brick warriors part as I wanted a functional repeating scene ... It never worked out but the design of the static model was good lol

When I put a L motor in the EN I found the spacing was not ideal. I found the motor would torque and over come the clutch or the bricks. Your motor mounts need reinforcement so that the who structure is stable .. otherwise it will come apart and bind. The other issue I ran into was there was not an perfect mesh solution with the gears/space available. I had to sandwich two bevel gears around a straight gear to get the proper height I needed. I have had no issues with this set up at all dispite the nay sayers telling me it will never work ... I've not tore the engine down the last four years of shows and it still works.
