Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II

If you want the maximum of attention and available ressources (that is: time of those who build), then: yes, for sure. -
Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion, Era II
Darnok replied to blackdeathgr's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well, there are currently, apart from this: the Royal Wagonway on Cocovia (until the end of November) the Jameston factory thingy (until the end of November) the Nova Terelli embassy thingy (until the end of January) the Orchid challenge (until mid-January) Now this, with some "high standard only please" restrictions... eh. Not that I will not think about it, but I will most likely pass. Just too much going on somewhere else. -

Another nice opportunity, but: do you not think this is a bit too much at once? There is so much going on at the moment, this just feels like too much. -
Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This may be a weird question, but: can I build for others? Meaning: I build something, do pictures, than send those pictures/links to another BotBS-player, he or she uses them to set up a thread for this build, and also licenses it under his/her name. Is that possible? -
Oh, nice continuation of your story. Is this the first glimpse of new islands? I hope for some cannibalism down the road - a man has to eat after all!

I am a bit confused: who exactly is declaring war on whom? Is there a formal Decleration Of War? What is expected from either side?

[SR - FB 3 Nov 2017] It's all about expertise
Darnok replied to Professor Thaum's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
This is an excellent MOC, and Jameston's pride for sure. I love pretty much everything about it! While your factory has even more plain walls than mine, you have done a far better job to make them look good. The use of little windows and arches works well, as do the tan coloured bricks and tiles breaking up the white here and there. The roof colours complement the whole structure very well, and the greens from the palmtree and the Sapoys hats (great minifig use!) give a good contrast. The plankway and river give a great "frame" to the scene, while also adding some nice details (loving the floating plants). The factories inside is equally impressing. You have done a great job showing the process of destilling - and what can go wrong - while making it look not overly complicated. The whole inside is properly busy, and breaks up into a couple of smaller scenes, which is very well done. Outside again I like the two focal scenes with the wagon, as well as the presentation of the key - good story elements! An overall really impressive build, with a great many things to discover and a nice story to go with it. I love it!- 17 replies

Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
@Mesabi: Nice little boat you have got there. The openings on the lowest gundeck look "unfinished" to me because of those hollow studs. Adding some 2x2 plates or tiles in either white or red would improve the look a lot in my opinion. As for its classification: I would say it is either a class 5 or class 6 - going by the standards set here. The higher classes are defined by ships that are a good bit more massive than the "Judgement". -
I will take that offer! A large education property it will be, and one fitting for the needs of a growing sugar industry: a facility studying sugar - its sources, its uses, its refinement - and whatever you can make with sugar. I need a better name than "Academy of Sugar Science" though, since I am not thrilled by that titles abbreviation...

This offer does not include establishment of trade organisations. Is that something to consider for the future, or would you be willing to include it in the currently standing offer?- 81 replies

Garvey shows up twice - which category is it in? This has been resolved. Great idea, I already have two builds in mind.- 81 replies

I noticed that my license expenses for this month do not show up (but did so a few days ago). While this is great for my balance, I also hope this mistake is set right soon.

The background blurb about this orchid has had my attention from the first time I read it, and was one of the reasons my main character became an explorer. I wanted him to search for it from the very beginning - I had no idea the chance to do so would present itself so soon! The wagonway construction on Cocovia better be done soon, so I can let Reinhard loose on Celestia.

We are not quite there yet. You mean: in the distant future?

Patience! This MOC will show up as part of a larger scene later, and I promise you one thing: it will have no lack of minifigs.

Curses! Setting up a factory for glass was my other idea for Jameston! Shame on you @Mesabi, shame on you! Now for reals: a good build, with the typical great Mesabi style of writing. I do like how you show the process of glassmaking, while I think you could add some more details to the build. This is due to the limitations of college I assume? @Ayrlego: DOes Jameston need another glass factory, or would you like something else instead? I am open to suggestions.

Thank you, that is a great compliment! I picked Corrington for several reasons, but a part of me is a Sea Rat. Always!

"Sheesh, Joe! I told you to cut off all those pesky cacti days ago. This is a plantation for potatoes, not cactus!" "Sorry boss, but they are growing faster than I can kill them. At least they only grow outside of the actual fields, and I try my best to keep them off as much as possible." "Sheesh, Joe! Do or do not, there is no "try" - or so I've heard. Now get this one out. We are lucky to have so many small fields among those cacti and all the rocks around, you better care good for the potatoes. Now keep your mouth shut, we have important guests coming, I can already see them..." It is Lady Mesabi, approaching the plantation on one of the few un-eaten, not-drunk horses still around, guarded by two of the infamous WTC Marines: She jumps off her horse, starting the conversation with a series of insults, then going on: "So you are Mordo I guess? You requested a meeting, but why for the love of the gods among potatoes? Is this supposed to be some kind of bad joke? And if not: what the ยง&#% do we need potatoes for?" "My dear Lady Mesabi, you are as charming as the stories tell. This is indeed a potatoe plantation, and I assure you this is no joke at all. This settlement is growing fast, attracting new workers and businesses every week. Don't you think they appreciate some food other than watery bricksoup? Potatoes may not be a delicacy, but you can eat them in so many variants. You should also not forget that it is a great starting point for alcohol - all we would need is a destillery. And if all else fails: you could smuggle whatever you want in potatoe sacks, well hidden below something nobody would want to steal. Do I have your attention now?" "Ho-hum, that doesn't sound that bad. Indeed, you might be on to something here. Have you not also set up some plantations on the other side of town?" "Aye, those are mine, Stevia and Agave to be precise. I'm sure you have heard those rumours about a sweetest fruit? We try to find out which one it is by testing them both. Results are still not in, but in can be only a matter of days now. Having said that, I have more plans for the future. Plans I can not execute without help. The WTC is the only partner available here, so I wonder what it takes to get us work together?" "Not so fast there. No matter how great your plans are, such matters are not to be discussed on a field of potatoes, and not near underlings. How about a meeting in the "Blue Dragon"? If you can handle their drinks, that is..." "My dear Lady Mesabi, you have no idea. Meeting there we will, but for now: free beer for everybody?" "Aye!" ======================================================================================== A medium sized potatoe plantation, to be licensed in Mesabi Landing. Nothing spectacular really. I used almost all of my parts of those green plants and all my "cactus grass" pieces. Note how the unkillable cacti are at most two pieces high inside of the plantation - while they will not go away, at least they are kept short. I would have lovd to add more, but what you see is all I have. More pictures behind the spoiler tag: I want to build on the "potatoe business" idea in the next month, most likely with a small destillery and some sort of potatoe themed restaurant. The upcoming meeting between Lady Mesabi and Mordo will take place in a new tavern - but I have to build it first, so that might take some time. @Mesabi can already start to think about what he is and is not willing to accept as conditions for Mordos - i.e. mine - soon-to-be WTC membership.

A growing settlement like Elizabethville deserves places of quiet and peace. One such places has recently been finished: a small fountain near the central marketplace. It seems to be a favourite with the kids, who regularly throw coins into the water - maybe hoping for a wish to come true? Collecting those coins has resulted in quite a bit of money added to Elizabethvilles budget. Is that not yet another coin under the sparkling water? =========================================================================================================== Just a small arts & culture build for Elizabethville. @SilentWolf: could you please license it in the name of the settlement?

Thanks! I want my buildings to be accessibe as much as possible, as I think it adds a lot of "flavour" to a structure.

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II
Darnok replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
And a fine introduction it was. He does not show up in the account summary sheet though, maybe that is where the confusion is coming from. -
I think I can only repeat what others have said already: very interesting build, busy scene, good depiction of the work process. THe roof is well done, a technique I have not seen before. All around great MOC!
-
I had most of the build finished before that announcement, originally to be used for something else. You are right about the plain walls, I usually try to "decorate" as much as possible. In this case it was a mix of a lack of inspiration and "ah #### it, factories are not meant to look nice". It is the one thing I am not happy with about this build.

It seems that I got charged 50DB for a medium factory license, when it should only be 45DB due to the 10% discount for Corrington.
