An Holi, Weelond, the last warm days of October. The famous Weelond Octoberfest is almost over, so many people from all over the Brickseas take a last chance to enjoy the festivities. One attraction in particular had drawn a lot of attention: a massive monument donated by the Corrington Parliament Of Science. Quickly nicknamed "The Mug" by the Weelond locals, it showcased the finest efforts in glassmaking and mechanics, bringing the glory of beer to be seen from near and far away: Among the visitors was young Billy with his father, joined by other Weelond citizens. It was close to the full hour, which meant a demonstration of the mechanical workings of this "biggest glass of beer around" was due in a few minutes. Billy pointed to the plates next to him, asking his father to read him the texts. "It tells a lot about the history of beer on the one plate, and describes the construction of this monument on the other. Lots of technicalities really. But the sight of this makes me really thirsty. They should get this over with, I want a real beer!" To the fathers pleasure, in this very moment the spectacle started... ... when the Master whipped with a loud crack... ... the horses moving, and the giant glass construction turning around slowly, making a full circle. The crowd cheered, awed by what had to be a wonder of mechanics. Soon they moved on though, mostly looking for the smaller, but in fact drinkable, counterpart. ================================================================================================ This is my first entry (of three) for this years Octoberfest mini-challenge. It is a beermug - giant in minifig scale, about truescale for humans - on a platform, being able to be turned. The mechanism actually works, pulling the string makes the whole "tower" move around. Just compare to location of the handle in the pictures above and the lenght of the string. Behind the spoiler tag you will find some additional pictures, showing the "inner mechanics" as well as a comparison to an actual beer mug: I plan to license this as a small arts & culture build once the funds allow it.

Just noticed I have not commented on this one - my bad! A lovely collection of scenes. I really like how the build in the background catches the feeling of the architecture in town. Simple, but effective! My true favourites are the pigs in the streets (very appropriate for the time!) and the torches being lit later in the day. Those details really make a difference bringing it all to life. Well done!

Meh, Taj Mahal. Good for those who want it. I'm not one of them, but the good news is: this really saves me some money! -

[SR - FB3] - Oct '17 - Affairs of State: Epilogue
Darnok replied to Kwatchi's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice! A good build, well photographed, and with a really good story alnogside it. And what is not to love with business next to some executions? -
That thing is a godsend! The whole City Jungle line has interesting bits to offer - the two big cats being the most prominent in my opinion - but the machete has so many more uses. Especially for BotBS. I love it! Concerning the "cannonball vs. icecone" thingy: both are fine and work for the look of sugarcane in my opinion. The cannonball is maybe a bit too massive for the really thin sugarcane stems, while the icecone gives this "bamboo impression" that is a bit inappropriate. Still, I like the icecone a little bit more, and my local PaB wall had them available, so... yeah. I have about 500 of them by my estimate, and will use them for all kinds of "jungle builds" in the future. Maybe some actual bamboo plantation as well. What conditions does that need? Wikipedia, here I come...

Since the parts for my Oktoberfest builds finally arrived today, I have been busy and nonstop building for hours - but now I need a break. While waiting for my order over the weekend I built the following small sugarcane plantation yesterday. Among other parts: 100 jumper plates, over 100 sand-green flowerstems, over 200 green flowerstems and over 300 icecream cones! No LDD in this one, all physical and hand-built. Yes, I was kind of bored... =========================================================================================================== "Good evening you two, how is the work going along?" Susan Cole came to pick off her husband Markus from work at the small plantation one of the local tribes had set up close to Elizabethville. Markus was still busy harvesting sugarcane together with one of the natives. "It is hard work, but somebody has to do it. I would prefer to work in our new garden, but for now that would not fill our stomachs. Since your saddlery is still under construction, for the time being this job is as good as any - with the added benefit of me getting to know some of the natives as well as their local plants." "Be patient, the construction work is almost finished, and I will be in business soon. Most of the natives are quite obsessed with their horses, I wonder how they will react to what I have to offer. Maybe your new relations here can help with that." "I will ask around when I get the chance. Have you seen Marie though? Last time I saw her she was playing with one of the natives kids. A plantation is not the worst playground, but I really want to get home now..." =========================================================================================================== This will be licensed as a small plantation in Elizabethville. And now back to those Oktoberfest projects - they will be done in time!

Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

There is a thread with all the island descriptions, but for the life of me I can not find it. Can somebody please help and provide the thread link? Thanks in advance! -
Name: Pepper (Piper Nigrum) IC background: First introduced to the New World on Astrapi, pepper quickly became popular as a spice all over the Brick Seas. As a logical consequence, larger plantations were set up on Stéphanique. There the settlement of Lavalette has become the prime hub of peppercorn trade, with a promising future ahead. OOC background: Not related to (but easily confused with) the chili pepper, "pepper" refers to the fruits of the peppercorn tree. It comes in many varieties. The most common one is the Black Pepper, but there are (among others) also white and green pepper. Pepper is native to South Asia and Southeast Asia, and has been used as a spice for over 4000 years already. For a great overview of the history of pepper, the history section of its Wikipedia article is a highly recommended read. Brethren of the Brick Seas (BoBS) Intro Thread, Era II

I feel like this got somewhat lost. I have built both a Stevia and Agave plantation in Mesabi Landing, as a test just as described above. When and how will I get a result in terms of knowing what this rumoured "sweetest fruit" is? -
[COR FB] A contest of plants - Part II

I have asked about this already, waiting for an answer. While I am waiting for confirmation by the Powers That Be: in my opinion it has to be stevia. It just fits the description best. -

Funny detail about Agaves: google "Lego Agave", and one of the first results will be the Lego bush. A much easier "build" than mine, but just as appropriate. -
