Until I come up with a final solution, I've moved to extremely inexpensive sandwich bags of various sizes. I then throw related bags into boxes. Once everything is sorted in a working system, I'll find something more permanent. This way I don't get locked into anything.

People complaining about people calling them "Legos" or pronouncing it lay-go. Who cares? Do you correct everyone that asks for a kleenex or bandaid? If you do, I'm glad I don't need to be around you. When people don't properly orient the hands on their minifigs. I always turn them so the flat side of the hands are up, and the curved side is down. Unless, of course, the hands need to be in a different position when holding something.

I really like your engine mod. I had it in my mind that I was going to go the all trans blue 1x1 round plate route, but after looking at screenshots of the Falcon, there are clearly vertical bars like you have. I think this will be the way to go.- 290 replies

Definitely blue vents on screen used helmets. -
Bought a tub of LEGO off Craigslist and it contains a complete Diagon Alley and the majority of a Hogwarts Castle. And that was just stuff laying on top of all the loose bricks.

This is gorgeous. Your part usage is incredible. Love those bowed pieces in the boats, and the swamp-tree trunks are brilliant.

I'm doing it the old fashioned way. I start by looking for the piece I need the most of. I then look at the 5 stores that have the quantity I need, and the cheapest prices. I then look at the rest of their stock to see what other parts they have that I need. I add as much as possible to the order before ordering. I then move on the the next highest quantity piece, rinse, repeat.- 290 replies

I will absolutely be swooshing my UCS Slave 1 around the house when it'd done. Wow, is this one incredible build.

That site looks great, but I can't get the images to come up over the wifi I'm on. Are they fairly hi-res? This could be the source of reference pics I was looking for! And I'm shocked they missed something!

I am at the very beginning stages of embarking on my own 10179, and I've been looking at all these threads with great interest, and I totally agree. Those rear feet look odd to me. I may need to find a fix for that...- 290 replies

I love all your progress pics. You're giving me a LOT of ideas on where I can cut corners. I hate the thought of all that gray and dark gray being hidden away in the mandibles never to be seen. If it's not seen through the hull cutouts, I think i'll be using red, yellow, blue etc. in there. I would love to see these pics.

Could I get a copy of your spreadsheet? I decided to build my own UCS Falcon, and I'd love to see what color swaps you made. Like you, I am looking to do this as cheap as possible, raiding my own collection whenever possible. I do not care in the least bit to have an exact replica of the LEGO set. I intend to have the best LEGO representation of the Falcon that I can.

Awesome idea!

Continued going through bins full of pieces looking for parts. I am going to Bricklink the UCS Millenium Falcon, but I am going to start by pillaging my own stash first.

If you're getting bluish light, or yellow for that matter, you may need to adjust your white balance. Your camera should have an option for this, or at the very least, options for preset white balance settings for different light sources.

I really like this figure, but will be replacing that red arm for sure on one of mine. Just need to find a decent "gold" arm to use. And I was REALLY hoping this would be chrome. The artwork makes him look shiny!
