  1. I used to really enjoy creating elaborate costumes for Halloween. I would research a costume from a movie (Star Wars, Batman, Pirates of the Carribean, etc.), start gathering parts, and create it. I would buy the fabric, and sew them myself. I recently decided I didn't have enough time to do this any more, and it was taking time and funds from LEGO and my family. I just quit, and sold off most of my pieces and it's funded my LEGO hobby. I don't regret my decision at all. I'll still make costumes for my kids for Halloween, but I won't obsess over it!
  2. I save them for purchases that are no longer discounted anywhere like the modulars. I wait until I can get a good 25%-30% off. That's usually my threshold for making a LEGO purchase anywhere.
  3. Nice! I'm really looking forward to those new demolition construction sets.
  4. It's a $3 increase in the US. Green and blue were $4.99. Bright green and tan are now $7.99.
  5. Real grass has variations in color so I'll be able to make use of the new green, but i hate that I lost the original option. I'll just sprinkle the various plates around in different sections. A 60% increase in cost is WAAAAAAAAY to much at once.
  6. Agreed. Why the change? An additional color might have been nice, but I prefer the old color. And base plate prices have already skyrocketed on Amazon.
  7. Ordered a bunch of road plates from Europe. These things NEVER go on sale in the US. Anywhere.
  8. The fact that they are unresponsive is a hugs red flag. I'd look to stop payment ASAP.
  9. Scored big at the PaB wall. I was able to buy a whole case of 2x2 light gray tiles. As soon as I get all my road plates, I'll be able to build my sidewalks! Also picked up a cup full of black headlight bricks. Can always use these!
  10. I spend no money from my "family" budget or income on LEGO. My LEGO hobby is supported 100% by LEGO sales.
  11. Huh. I think you're right. It's very sad how LEGO just continues to take away more and more benefits. In case you hadn't heard yet, the stores no longer stack freebies. You now have to choose. I may be choosing more and more to buy bulk bricks on the secondary market.
  12. I bought the new Detective Office modular and got the free LEGO Store minifig and the free street vendor polybag.
  13. I haven't even bothered looking for LEGO clearance this year. First time in over a decade. You just don't see the discounts you used to see.
  14. This is a terrible change in direction. What LEGO is really saying is that they want to discontinue the discount for displaying your model in the store. While that is bad news in and of itself, I'd still like to display my models periodically. Fresh content inspires creativity, not the same old thing. And what AFOL is going to give up their creation for an extended period of time? This was not well thought out at all.
  15. Cleaned off our building space in the basement so the kids can build their new sets.
  16. When I buy a PaB cup, I generally fill the cup with a specific element. I just store my parts in the cups until I need them.
  17. Registered a couple of domain names for a LEGO venture I will be launching in 2015.
  18. I have the same plans you do with my Diagon Alley. I plan to "modularize" each of them and have a Happy Potter section of my display. Your Gringott's Bank is perfect, and VERY similar to what I envisioned doing with mine.
  19. Posted on Facebook. 12/14 Double VIP points in the US.
  20. Thanks! That's EXACTLY the tutorial I was thinking of! I'll check the arts and crafts store, too. If I could buy a mesh that would work, that would save a lot of time!
  21. I like the looks of that box for bloxes. Could you tell me how big the holes are? I'm thinking of making light weight PVC frames, drilling holes along the sides, and stringing them with fishing line or something like that. Kind of like a wide holed screen. In various sizes of course.
  22. If people have too many of the new orange separators, I would gladly take them off your hands. I buy a lot of bulk lots, and I wear them out often breaking things down. I would pay you for shipping of course. :-)
  23. I've acquired several LEGO collections lately, and I need to start sorting them. At first, I want to sort by general size. I could have sworn I saw instructions at some point to build a LEGO sieve. I'd love to create something that I can pour my pieces into, and gather up all the big, bulky pieces. A next level may sort out everything bigger than a 2x4 brick. Lastly, I'd like to end with everything that's 1x1. It doesn't need to be perfect! Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
  24. What are you trying to use Peeron for? I used to use it for set inventories. Brickset is not FAR superior to Peeron in every way in this regard.
  25. Ordinarily, I would say add your pieces to the rest of your collection. But not with modulars. They are too valuable, and are only going to become more valuable down the road. Keep them together as much as possible!
