7. Carniveil Carniveil. If a wacky race is all about fun then there should be some carnival rides. And one operated by children (scale dictated children) just can’t be refused! Free sandwiches and free rides for all wacky race entrants on the ‘plunger’ (a turning, gut churning gravity drop) and ‘washing machine’ (just gut churning). From the era of blocky Lego and blocky graphics comes the look of the Carniveil to honour the early nineties wacky wheels. All manual features of the Carniveil include -HOG steering -6cyl engine driven from the driveline at two locations -‘washing machine’ ride driven off the vehicle driveline -‘plunger’ ride driven off the driveline through a double differential, one way output that lets the plunger operate in only one direction regardless of vehicle direction. -‘clothes dryer’ defence operated by 2x Lego string (x77ac50) -adjustable height front seats for carnival mode and race mode. -drivers steering operated by head swivel of driver (attached to HOG and seats) -‘Veil’ mode (fire engine) - clutch switch to disengage plunger for ‘Veil’ mode. My interpretation of the wacky race was like the Mille Miglia or cannonball run where all the race happens with normal citizen activity through Lego City. The idea of the Carniveil is to upset all the tummies of other entrants by supplying food and rides pre-race. Then when the race starts, the Carniveil, having to start at the back of the race so no one sees, transforms into the fire engine and speeds off through the field as all contestants must let emergency vehicles through. Then the ‘clothes dryer’ is deployed once at the front to stop other racers getting by. Don’t try and force your way past or you’ll end up killing children…Which is not in the spirit of a fun wacky race.

Formula Car

I kind of like above the differential as it shows technic operations which I like in technic. I also like the gold wheels better -

I know it's all manual but I'm thinking how to make it auto (for myself) -

I was really looking forward to this car without too much overt wackiness. Even though as @Didumos69 has pointed out the concept is still wacky. Either way I'm still looking forward to this cars finish. I Ve already been thinking how this could be automated on rollover to automatically reverse the wheel direction so the vehicle carries on going forward. -

That's an idea I not thought about! Still haven't worked on that yet though as I've been spending my last week of Lego time on the steering to the drivers seat. No steering wheel though as that's too normal so this has a head steering mechanism where the driver can just turn their head left or right to steer the vehicle. all connected to the HOG and to the adjustable height seats that have a low carnival mode and a higher, more reclined race mode for reasons that will become obvious later. Slowly getting there. -
Best power supply?
MangaNOID replied to Tobaganner's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You are correct! No eneloops, energizer. there is a similar chart to voltage drop off on philohome.com of energizer that looks like the chart you posted. When using 8 motors on my 42042 these li-po hold the torque up till the last drop...3-3.5v or so anyway as you mentioned. -
Best power supply?
MangaNOID replied to Tobaganner's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
thanks to @Attika and his youtube how to video, I have been converted into using these batteries. great if you dont mind a small bit of non-purism. for $30 ish AUD i got 6x1200mah batteries including smart charger. great for sbrick/buwizz where its easy to monitor voltage in batteries. I have pretty much ditched 24 rechargeable aa Ni-Mh batteries (well i'll still keep them for when purism is required) as the power difference (lack of dropping output voltage) was very noticeable. -
actually I would like to clarify my comment as I wrote it late last night when very tired. I mean jury votes to be received but not known to the public voters to sway public opinion. I'm actually liking the Idea too, but maybe they could be separate categories i.e public vote winner, jury vote winner. just my opinion. happy to go along with anything really as its all good fun! EDIT: maybe all voting could be silent? ...to many ideas... i'll be silent now.

Perhaps to be fair to all, the professional votes could be collected before public voting.

I was 'too old' for games like Wacky wheels in 1994 (20). What's the average age of technic EB members I wonder. I looked at the game before building but most vehicles looked the same (go karts) not inspiring much wacky creativity in me. so for me it's more about a wacky vehicle in a race than wacky wheels game. you peeps that have built a wacky go kart style vehicle have captured the wacky wheels game extremely well! there is so much room to move in this challenge which is great for variation in entries

This is awesome can't wait to see the video! I love how the pneumatics are quite well hidden at first. -

smartypants! there will be a bit more going on but any pre-race advantage is good! -

Name change! Hope that's ok, as this new name is far more fitting to what this is becoming. A photo to celebrate the name change of the almost finished 'plunger' this is a tummy churning ride that slowly goes up, then crashes down fast with gravity. This is why I needed the one way drive thingy as it's driven off the vehicle moving either forwards or backwards but the plunger ride obviously must only run one way. The whole thing spins on the turntable too for extra gut wrench. I need to build a softer landing somehow for the chair. -
