LEGO Star Wars 2024 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
BrickBob Studpants replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Maybe it‘s a good thing they haven‘t released any Acolyte sets yet, since now, they don‘t have to pay attention to spoilers anymore (the big two being ). There‘s definitely set potential, with a Jedi Vector, the Exile II (Mae‘s ship), and the Polan (Sol‘s shuttle) all being viable options -

Pearl dark grey would likely work the best in my opinion Um, no. Gothmog is modelled after Harvey Weinstein, who actually deserves it I don‘t criticise stories I haven‘t read, I’m just explaining why I don‘t care about her. More blasphemy: the idea that Luke marries a former assassin working for the most evil person in the galaxy is stupid to me Next year‘s gonna be interesting since the only new content coming out will be Andor S2, which likely won‘t get more than one set, and maybe a new animated series That leaves some space for more Acolyte and Ahsoka sets! -

I‘m not saying the new canon has no inconsistencies, but at least we don‘t have authors who try to sabotage each other or outdo each other by coming up with sillier and sillier superweapons. Or how about the theft of the Death Star plans, where in Legends there were like 6 competing stories of how it happened and somehow they were all canon? He‘s clearly yellow in the trailer, and they seem to go for the whole TLM aesthetic with his faceprint being partially rubbed off I do wonder if he‘s meant to be a yellow near-human or an actual minifig (as in, he could not exist outside of the LSW universe, similar to how some characters in the LEGO movies would make no sense as anything other than minifigs, like Two-Face in TLBM being made of half-molten plastic) -

I haven't, and never claimed otherwise. My gripes with the character stem from the concept of "Emperor's hands" which I dislike for the reasons stated, and her design, which is rather dull in my opinion (and that matters, since we were talking about her potential as an anniversary figure). Maybe her story is the best thing since sliced bread, but I simply don't care about her, or any Legends material for that matter. It was just a giant contradictory mess with authors constantly fighting each other and killing each other's characters, out of pure spite it seems. And GL happily ignored all of it I SO need a minifig of a certain someone. Of course I'd like to see minifigs of all the main characters, but him in particular I hope they deliver next year! -

I sincerely hope they don't go down that route. So what, the real Gideon explained his entire backstory to one of the clones, gave him a briefing about Din, Grogu, and Bo-katan, and taught him fighting skills, so the clone can then fight all of his arch enemies for him while he's hiding around the corner, giggling to himself? And the clone just went along with it? "Mom, why is there a Black Widow minifig in my Star Wars set?" -

That‘d be silly. If he could survive a cruiser exploding in his face, Grogu‘s force bubble would have been totally superfluous since Din and Bo-katan would‘ve been fine as well That‘s a non-argument though. Of course nobody knows him, the special he first appears in hasn‘t aired yet You can‘t tell me stuff from 30-year old books is more relevant to kids than sets based on a well-advertised upcoming special on D+. Specifically a LEGO special, mind. Featuring popular meme characters. -

You‘re just a bunch of nerf herding simps There, I said it! I welcome your boos. Back to topic: With any luck, we should be seeing the remaining sets within 2 days! About time, if you ask me. I really wanna see Enoch, enhanced Morgan, Ahsoka the White, and whatever the build of the set is -

Exactly. A minifig version would basically just be Black Widow with a lightsaber -

There are two big differences though. The inquisitors answer directly to Vader and thus have no chance of outranking him, which is what bothers me about the concept of “the Emperor’s Hands”. Palpy has Vader, that’s all he needs, in my opinion there shouldn’t be room for authors to insert their OCs to diminish Vader’s position And Motti’s line still makes sense as every single one of them dies before ANH …well, sort of. It’s still unclear whether Marrok was a zombie or not and the fate of two of them is still unresolved. -

She killed my hamster and ate it Seriously though, I just don’t get the obsession over this character and the desire to have a minifig of hers. Never liked the concept of having force-sensitive characters working for Palpy that don’t answer to (or even outrank) Vader and her design with the 80s hairdo never appealed to me either. That’s all -
As I've said before, I'm purely talking about tropes, which is what genres are generally defined by. Of course SW is sci-fi in the sense that it has aliens, spaceships, futuristic tech and all that, but what I'm getting at is that it rarely deals with sci-fi tropes and themes. For starters, it's set in the past, not the future, and in a different galaxy to begin with, while 99% of (hard) sci-fi stories deal with the future of our planet. The tech is rarely focussed on, it mostly just exists to help the story move along (hyperdrives, lightsabers etc.) and the implications of said tech usually don't matter. Even the ethics of cloning, which is a pretty central theme in a lot of sci-fi stories, was brushed over in AotC and only got explored a bit in more recent shows (TCW and especially TBB). The danger of technology, another classic sci-fi theme, is also not really present despite potentially dangerous technology being a thing in that universe. Parallel universes (luckily) also aren't a thing in SW, and even time travel was done in a mystical way. I would call it fantasy with sci-fi set dressing Or put differently, story-wise, it has more in common with LOTR than with Star Trek.

But how is a character that has nothing to do with anything TLG has ever touched before relevant for the 25th anniversary of LEGO SW though? That'd be like including a character that hasn't appeared in any of the movies as a Harry Potter anniversary figure. That'd be incredibly stupid because AI-generated garbage cannot be copyright-protected. Can't wait for the film studios to finally sue these thieves and frauds into the ground, gonna be hilarious -
Ah yes, the scientifically-accurate OT, where parsecs were used as a unit of time, starships make sound in space, explosions in space manifest as huge fireballs, and hyperspace is a thing Oh, and space wizards. SW has always been deeply rooted in fantasy. From the first second to be precise, as it even starts like a fairy tale. And ANH in particular is one of the best examples of the classic hero‘s journey!

Likely search optimisation Some people suggest AI, but why would you need AI for something you could come up with in 2 seconds? Granted, I‘ve seen way dumber uses of AI, but that‘s beside the point. The faceprint is also exclusive …for now. I can see it being reused for random Hogwarts students -
Unfortunately, I don‘t see that happening. As hopeful as I am for a wave of sets, I‘d consider releasing a D2C set based on an untested new cinematic universe a very risky move, despite the design likely being comic-accurate enough to work as a generic Daily Planet D2C sets based on then-upcoming movies or shows are very rare anyway. The Sanctum Sanctorum is a recent example, but that one was not solely based on MoM and had been featured in multiple movies beforehand. Another example, the Dune ornithopter, was based on the first movie (and technically wasn‘t even a D2C set). Unless I’m overlooking something, the only current exception is the upcoming X-Mansion

Sure, but that doesn‘t change the circumstance that she hasn‘t been relevant enough in the last two and a half decades to warrant an anniversary minifig All the others had prominent appearances in recent(-ish) shows, games, and/or movies, while Mara simply hasn‘t. I wager A LOT more people have encountered Malak in KOTOR than have ever read a single story featuring Mara. Most younger fans probably have no idea who she even is -

Doesn‘t make much sense. Maybe if Enoch had been included in the initial wave, but 11 months later, they have no excuse -

While it‘s a nice print, that L0-LA is totally oversized! She‘s supposed to fit in the palm of a hand, not cosplaying as a frisbee It‘s a cute set though! -
Classifying Batman as sci-fi is a bit of a weird choice. He has futuristic tech, sure, but genres are mainly about tropes, not set dressing. For example, Star Wars is fantasy, not sci-fi. While there are spaceships and futuristic technology, the story and characters adhere to fantasy tropes (the hero’s journey, a mentor, the wise master, an evil overlord, magic etc) As @RedHoodPug points out, Batman stories follow detective tropes. He IS a detective after all, and that‘s even what DC is named after!

LEGO Collectable Minifigures Future Series Rumours
BrickBob Studpants replied to r4-g9's topic in Special LEGO Themes
If there’s any theme that doesn’t need its own CMF series, it’s definitely City It already gets the lion’s share in most regular series, most BAM minifigs are City-adjacent, and then there are the sets themselves. Any other theme (like Pirates or Castle) deserves it way more in my opinion -

Lego 'Wednesday' rumours and discussion.
BrickBob Studpants replied to Agent Kallus's topic in LEGO Licensed
According to @Brick Clicker, 76780 includes buildable figures of Wednesday, Enid, and Thing, 76781 is Wednesday‘s bedroom with the same three characters (Thing being moulded), and 40750 is a Brickheadz set Interesting that they‘re going for buildable figures within a minidoll theme… Has to be a first (unless you count the Bruni figure from Frozen II)
