  1. Even though I am a "non-Dutch", I have realized that bikepaths are painted red in some countries - or is it just in Holland? In Denmark bikepaths crossing a big conjunction are sometimes made blue. But to make it fit your square, I think it looks really good with just the red stripe. You still recognize the colour and what it stands for - and that it is a two-way bikepath. The square itself is really beautiful. And very big but it fits well with your modular buildings. Are you planning some other things for the square? Public transport (tram/metro), newspaper stand or something third?
  2. Certainly an interesting idea, Eurotrash. I can imagine it was hard to find some kind of business not seen in a MOC before. And honestly, I do not recall to have seen any fish farm when browsing MOCs. Thumbs up for the idea and for the execution and details. The first detail I noticed was the taps on the ponds. I think I would not have thought about a such if I had made a fish farm. Are you making your MOCs to make a landscape/cityscape, or do you make stand-alone MOCs?
  3. As an AFOL who has never been too crazy about cars, I agree. I also miss the good ol' days when LEGO Town included at least one residential building as well as a police station and a fire station (!), as well as other buildings. That being said, the last five years or so we have actually seen quite a number of buildings in LEGO CIty, though mainly pizzerias and bike shops not least because of City Corner/Town Square/City Square. Some of the buildings might need a refurbishment/MOD to function as a regular city building. E.g. 60009 Helicopter Arrest could easily work as an auto repair shop. Otherwise we have to turn to Creator which gives us more buildings, even a couple per year. And so far, no police or fire station (except for the now Classic modular Fire Brigade).
  4. I was lucky to see the Tivoli MOC at LEGO World, and I was truly amazed by it all - and certainly not least the main entrance. It is really well made, there is no doubt what it is. - It must be hard to take a building like this apart. But well, new challenges are waiting you, Lasse and the other members of the LUG in future I guess. Maybe something for next year's LEGO World?
  5. Also a kind of souvenir or thing to make you remember a special time. Though I love Christmas, I did not think about getting one of these - but maybe to decorate my LEGO corner, thought it will not be the T-Rex Holiday Bauble...
  6. Like several other EB'ers in this thread says: I'm not a fan of Ninjago (in any way), but this set... WOOOOOW! It is really fantastic! Well... I have to add this to the several, big sets I already want from other series. And I do not even (plan to) build anything in East-Asian style. But this is so great, so many details, and interesting bricks.
  7. Oh, I have never been thinking about buying things like minifig keychains. But why not? - Architecture sets are really good candidates as souvenirs... if you can find something that represents the place, you visit Actually my wife also suggested that I should bring a set to build while on holiday this year. I considered a set - but did not bring any. No space in the suitcases But it sounds like a great new tradition. Especially if LEGO building is relaxing for you. Quite the obvious kind of souvenir. I guess the reason I never considered it before is, I focus on series like City, Castle and Pirates, therefore keyhangers or magnets are not the first things I look for. Hehehe... The Logging Truck I bought was priced more or less the same, though I could have got it quite cheaper on offer in Denmark around the time I went on holiday. But I can easily follow you. A LEGO souvenir this year could easily be as much as 2,5 more expensive than if I bought it at home. Yeah, it is not always a good idea to buy cheap...
  8. Now it is time for holiday/vacation in many parts of the world, and I wonder if Eurobrickers buy LEGO as souvenirs when travelling. And if you do, do you choose a set that somehow relates to the destination/trip? Last year I went to Finland - deep into the forrests, I realized that the perfect LEGO souvenir (funny thing to buy abroad when you are from Denmark - home of LEGO ) would be the 60059 Logging Truck with all the logging going on in Finland. A set I otherwise had never considered buying.
  9. Well, I can see it has been a while since I got my last Castle set, the 7189 Mill Village Raid, probably three years ago or so. Except for the wonderful 10223 Kingdoms Joust, newer sets have not really appealed to me. - Maybe next time... Or if I find a really good offer
  10. Well... The number of replies, you have gotten says it all: This is fantastic! No doubt, that this MOC will be a reference point for a lot of interior designs. And personal favourite? It is a hard choice, but I think the architect lamp on the desk.
  11. I really do agree on this! - And with all the other comments. It is a brilliant MOC, Bennemans. I cannot wait to see a cityscape made with your buildings.
  12. Nice aquarium, you have made there, Karlota. The colours are very well-chosen for this place. And I like the three round tiles, you have put on the wall, it reminds me of some kind of Greek/Roman decoration. I think it adds an extra to the "aquatic" style.
  13. I definately agree on this. When you build different sets, you see and feel the different techniques. Not long ago, I finally built the modular Town Hall. When making the decoration along the roof edge, it was like Eureka! - I would never had thought of building in that way. I am not MOC'ing a lot (though I know it is what I want to do, as it is even more fun than building sets), but I have tried the process with my Department Store. When I started on this years ago, I had not been MOC'ing bigger structures for years. As I just knew the classic way to build (as in the 80s/90s), the result was a building with quite a classic feeling to it. And I was happy for it, maybe even a little proud but slowly, ideas began to rumble in my head, and I realized that the building was not what I aimed for. Ideas evolved, I looked at how other Eurobrickers had perfomed the things I wanted to do - and I began to change the building, getting a bit closer to my new ideas. It was still not right (actually I was not thrilled about a new detail I had made on the building), and I got even more ideas. I now have the third version of the Department Store which looks (almost) as I want it to. Even though the building is basically the same, its facade has changed a lot, and it looks quite different from where I started. Unfortunately, I do not have any pictures right now to show the third version, but if you follow the link in my signature, you can see the first two versions. - And the point of this? When you have your idea ready - and at least a part of the bricks, even if they are not the right colour - start building. You might not get your wanted result the first time, but maybe it will come in the second or third try. And some MOCs are just never finished, they evole all the time. Enjoy MOC'ing!
  14. Nice little deal, you have got there - the old, yellow castle regarding the "houses on houses", I have seen several examples of buildings in Barcelona with the upper two or three floors being built ever smaller on top of each other, so that each floor has got its own uncovered balcony/terrace on top of the floor below. It is a nice way to give the flats "gardens" and make the city even more green. Just like you have been doing.
  15. While I see the point/comparison in collecting coins (I once did that myself, though never full heartedly), stamps etc., I still think it is a pity that all those wonderful bricks are never being used But dear collector, please feel free to leave the bricks in the boxes, if that is what you want. And there is one good thing about this way of collecting - it is so much easier to keep the collection free of dust He certainly has not been caught by the LEGO brick spirit - though he knows how to take advantage of it... I, myself, am both a collector and a MOC'er. Though my unopened boxes are only in this stage because of lack of time and space. My childhood sets, I want to keep built mainly as shown in the instructions, though I would never constrain myself to make it exactly as "in the picture" (and NO Krangle!). I will put things differently, and might... might even also do some light MOD'ing Newer sets I am not emotionally attached to in the same way, so there I am more likely to MOD them, if not even use them for MOC'ing. Sets used for MOC'ing is mainly sets from series I normally do not collect/play with, like Star Wars polybags and Friends, but which provide interesting bricks. These will be parted out and used for other things. /Laka - a foolish builder
  16. Hmmm... I never really had a Dark Age. Even though for some years I did not buy or play with LEGO, I still kept me updated on the situation and got the catalogues. And my collection never was never stowed away when I lived with my parents. If I take a look at my collection in a chronological order (year released), I can see that the last set I bought as a "child" was the 6597 Century Skyway - I was at least 15 years old at the time. But already from 1991 and onwards I just have a few of the sets released. Next bigger set bought was released in 2000, namely the 3406 Blue Team Transport - actually times three, as I wanted busses for my city. Since then I have bought and been given LEGO on a rather frequent basis again. In the years inbetween LEGO Town also went downhill, so I did not really miss out much on the sets sold in the late 90s and beginning of the 00s anyway. Luckily the quality is much higher now.
  17. Always interesting to see Ballabreek developing. I wonder what is going to happen now. And funny idea with the Gyrosphere, Greg3. I like to see all the activities going on on the pier
  18. I also grew up building sets without numbered bags. Searching for the bricks is part of the game. But anyway, I build bag it bag by bag now... Though I have just decided to change that, so I will open all the bags and make one big pile again. Just like in the good old days. That said, there will be some exeptions from the rule. When I built the 10210 Imperial Flagship, I sorted by colour which I normally do not do (I have an idea that it was not numbered bags). And with modulars, I build them section by section, but without sorting. And I start with the section, I think looks less interesting building - typically the middle floor. Right now I am building TH which is only the second modular I build.
  19. Many years ago, there house owners in the street where I lived rented a roll-off dumpster for throwing out old stuff once a year. We kids loved to play around in/on the stuff, and sometimes you could be lucky to find something useful. Like a LEGO road sign warning about construction work going on. Unfortunately I did not find more, if I remember it right. But later on I have found other small stuff, including a Fabuland figure.
  20. Construction is good. Not least when it is classic styled buildings :) what is your thought on City Square?
  21. This little set is available with the Danish magazine Anders And & Co. (Donald Duck) for a week. Last chance, I think, is next Wednesday.
  22. Normally it is August. If I do remember it right, it differs in which week the offer is.
  23. I am also quite impressed by the city of Hemlock Falls. Both the quick development - all in less than half a year, as well as the size. Even though it is mainly officials sets, you have used for the city so far, you have made the landscaping rather creatively. Several levels which you slowly build together. - I can wait to see further development, not least of your skills as a builder. Welcome back to the world of LEGO, Hemlock Falls
  24. Luckily, here in Denmark, at least a couple of times per year, it is possible to buy LEGO at discounts of 20-30%. Especially at the yearly offer at the supermarket Bilka, you can save 35% (used to be even 40%). Unfortunately, they do not sell the Modulars, but they have a wide selection. Otherwise it is correct that LEGO is not exactly cheap here.
  25. Quite impressive volcano, Skystorm87. It is not often, we see volcanoes here in the Town Forum. My suggestion for the volcano would be to to differ the heights of the rock-pieces. Right now the horizontal lines make it look a bit... artificial - in the lack of a better word. What I really like about it, though, is the way you put the green bricks, partly climbing a bit down, to make the small spots of soil and vegetation. And on the top, the snow. Your train station reminds me of the 4554 Metro Station with your own touch. Here I would suggest to make the ground floor a bit taller. The tower part looks too tall/dominating in the building. Otherwise it looks like you have an nice layout there - with a very interesting situation of the runway
