Interesting town, you have got there, mikaelsol. I like the mix of old and new buildings as well as your MOCs. Of your MOCs, I especially like the Dutch-inspired buildings at the harbour. I also like the alternative use of of buildings, like the butcher's and the grocery store. Brilliant ideas. Only thing that hurts my eyes a little is the black and white pavement. But that's a detail. I look forward to see the development of your towns and cities.

While I do not know much about the Miami art deco buildings, there is no doubt that this is a beautiful example of brickmade art deco. You keep amaze people with your MOCs, Snaillad. Well... At least it amazes me over and over again. This building has got beautiful colours and interesting architectural details. And I am happy you were persuaded to make the interior. It is really a big part of your MOCs.

Yeah, you really got the atmosphere of a Southern European village, heksu. Or at least as I imagine it is two older gentlemen playing, the two men checking out the girl... I just miss two mamas dressed in black arguing

Oooooohohohoh! A Trancon2 in classic, classic CLASSIC colourscheme? I can't wait to see the final result -
Very nice buildings, Superfunk. I, too, love the open back buildings You have made nice interiors, and I like the window of the shop. I'd like to see a picture from inside the café - it seems you have made a striped wall behind the table and chairs. Brilliant detail.

I can only agree on what has been said. Beautiful building - and lampposts.

I easily understand your interest in buildings/architecture. I guess most people in this forum do It sounds more or less as you are having a plan for your town. As more people have adviced you, start with a small street/town square and expand from there. If you take a look through different MOCer's, you will see how the towns/cities developed over time. greg3's Ballabreek started on six baseplates, if I remember right. If you want to go modular, you might consider Salvobrick's way to make modulars. They are approx. half size of the normal modulars. They are detailed, but still they can also go together with many of the more classic, open-back buildings. And if you do not have bricks to make your buildings overly detailed, start with a more simple design. As time goes and your skills and collection develop, change the buildings. That is the beauty of LEGO. It is not static. Happy building

This is a clever idea for making a town combining shops and flats in the same buildings - which is also the way many towns are built. If you are not going modular (so soon), you can pick up inspiration from e.g. City Corner or Constrution Site. The pizzeria is a good model for town houses with shops on the ground floor and offices/homes on the upper floors. This is a model I will follow myself when I finally am going to build my own town. This kind of building can easily be expanded to bigger buildings, like my own Department Store (here the early variant). And if you want to pick up more inspiration, take a look at Lightningtiger's constructions, he mainly builds open-back buildings which easily fit classic town/city buildings (well... maybe a little more detailed... ). EDIT: Link to Lightningtiger's main street. And how could I forget greg3's Ballabreek
-
In stead of building a lot of shops from the beginning, you can make a department store which covers most of the needs for the inhabitants. To save bricks, you can make it in a modern architectural style using plain bricks or panels and big windows. Otherwise I also agree on making some kind of public transport terminal. As your collection seems to consist of mainly older sets and road plates, you can make your buildings open-back which saves a lot of bricks compared to modular buildings. Enjoy building, I hope we can see your developing city soon.

Here in Denmark, some supermarkets and toy stores offer 25-40% discount on LEGO now and then. Maybe it is also the case in your area. Keep your eyes open - and be fast. It might be a popular offer. Some people brick build their roads, though I guess it is also quite costly, but it can be done mainly with standard bricks. I prefer baseplates/roadplates and have been lucky with good offers in the stores. I just wish the designs would not that different as they have been through times. But that is a complete different story

Last year, Eurobricks' own master of store interiors - Lightningtiger - made a thread about interiors. It might be a bit more detailed than you are asking for, but still a place to get inspiration. Otherwise, also take a look at reviews or building instructions of official sets. These interior are often more simple than what MOC'ers do. You can find a list of reviews here on Eurobricks. Sin made some interior for Grand Emporium, the most famous store in LEGO City. If you make a search for Grand Emporium in this forum, you will also get a lot of MOD of this department store - often including interiors.

Beautiful buildings, Kristel. Very harmonic. And funny as all the gardens look like each other

Great idea, Bornin1980something. I have also considered making a sidecar for the classic motorbikes, though I have never had the idea to attach the sidecar to the motorbike like you have done. So far, I never got past the design I know - the 6622 Mailman on Motorcycle from 1984.

What a wonderful piece of nature just outside the village. I like the idea of outdoor activities in the area. I guess there is a nice view over Ballabreek from the top. A nature centre with a café would fit well with the aims to attract more tourists to Ballabreek. On the other hand, a centre for alternative energy might be able to attract new citizens, as far as Ballabreek does not have engineers/technicians living there. Though I guess a wind turbine might be disturbed by turbulence created from the hill/mountain.

It's the same here in Denmark. Even though LEGO is a Danish toy - we are not the lucky ones to have the cheapest LEGO...

what do you call your lego city/ names for lego city?
LAKAbricks replied to legoguy1984's topic in LEGO Town
This name is brilliant That's easy! Well... If you are from Denmark Mursten is the Danish word for brick, though we do not call LEGO brick(-s) for mursten but klods (pl. klodser). It is possible that it was called LEGO mursten earlier, I have a vague idea I have seen that. I guess klods would translate into block. -
Many interesting details in your airport, MichalPL. What I find extra interesting is the departure board made up by number plates - funny idea

what do you call your lego city/ names for lego city?

When I was a child, I called my LEGO city/town for Legoby. That is Danish for Lego City or Lego Town. So far, I stick to this name. -
Why are there less reviews than before on Eurobricks?
LAKAbricks replied to kinggregus's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I like the reviews done here on Eurobricks - not least ones done by the Reviewers Academy members. I might not be the best in commenting on the reviews that I read, but after reading this thread, I will try to do it more often. Though I like video reviews - if the reviewer is good (camera work, voice, story teller) - I prefer pictorial reviews. With the pictures, you have a better chance to study and see the set being reviewed. While reviews of sets can give you relevant information if you are planning to buy it, it certainly can also provide you with details or angles of the set, it otherwise would be hard to find, if possible at all. E.g. old sets from your childhood (or for many even before they were born). -
Vintage Lego 6023 Maiden's Cart Review
LAKAbricks replied to VintageLegoEra's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
It's great to see this set again! Thanks for the review, VintageLegoEra. This little cart brought me into castle, before that I just played with town. The fair maid came to play an important role in my castle universe, as she became queen. A king did not really exist at the time. -
LEGOLAND Billund Discussion & Photos
LAKAbricks replied to jacob_uno's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Though I don't have any specific recommendations of hotels in Billund (I have only stayed at Propellen - when it was a motel more than 20 years ago), I can tell you that hotel rates, in general, are quite high here in Denmark. Not least when compared to German hotels. If you have access to a car during your stay, you can eventually stay in Vejle, some 30 minutes away. Kolding also have a number of hotels, but are situated a little further away, something like 45 minutes. EDIT: I can see there is Zleep Hotel in Billund, it is a budget hotel. Maybe it is worth a try? -
It probably would. I hope to get one of the garbage trucks and a mudguard, then I'll do a MOD
-
Thanks for the little review, Vorkosigan. I think it is a nice little set, I am therefore happy, you took your time to take these pictures and make the review. I agree it could need a little extra in the front, maybe a mudguard above the wheels? I think it could make the vehicle more complete. I agree, LT. My thoughts went directly to good, old 6607. I think the new garbage truck is a worthy successor for cleaning the city centre.

My first thought is that your you are hiding the square in the corner. You should bring out the square, so it is more visible. Maybe a corner building could be were there square is at present. I could give some kind of centre in your city. I agree with other people here that the Simpson's house is too big for the cityscape. Try to compare it to the police station or the medical centre. Otherwise, I find it is a very nice city, rriggs. And I like how you have used the railway station as a bus station in a central part of the city. It is not often we see that.

New Bricks and Pieces working for anyone?
LAKAbricks replied to sithewok's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I just looked through the different threads to find my thread. It seems more people have experienced different problems on LEGO's homepage (all links are Eurobricks-links): Anyone else having problems logging into Lego VIP? S@H issues with Chrome? Problems with PAB on LEGO.com
