  1. must be the wheels, they're the most restrictive component - short of designing brand new ones, i suspect thats where they started. plus they'll want the sub-range to be in the same scale i suspect. but would be interesting to find out
  2. I did post months ago that i hoped, really hoped, that the Chiron wasn't another supercar.. if the rally car had been a full-on snorting flagship, that would have been awesome, but that was just from a personal preference. If i was looking to make sales, i'd be releasing supercars hand over fist!! (and 42056 wasn't as bad as it was made out.. i just think expectations were very high) Its possible that the super-special line is a supercar sub-theme, but overall there's still a good mix of other theme's. Looking at your list of years, from 2000 onwards the number has decreased a lot. Only 4 in 18 years, so there's some catching up to do there for the car fans! one day there's be a massive flagship tractor using huge new tyres!!!
  3. maybe you could twist that around slightly, and ask what lessons were learnt during 42056.. thats a fair question as no matter what industry you work in, every day is a day at school. So it not an insult or provocative to ask? They may offer some interesting insight... thats not actually correct. I prefer construction and agriculture personally, but there isn't an abundance of supercars. And they are the most popular theme on this forum, they might not be mine, but i have to respect the fact that i'm in the minority... Its not an issue for me, its just a fact.
  4. Loving the xrays! I've recently spent hours with a multi-meter tracking down a fuel injection issue on my bike.. when finally found it the rubber outer was perfect, no hint of damage, so like you, i assume fatigue... xray machine would have saved me hours!!!
  5. problem is, air (or hydraulic fluid) follows the path of least resistance, so even a small variance is resistance means they won't synchronise.. However, if you have more pressure/flow than each cylinder can handle, then they'll both move at 100% so will be virtually synchronised. So if you restricted the flow to each to be less than 50% or your supply... then the path of least resistance is equal on both side. In real life, big pipe feeding small pipes. ...but i doubt they'd be sync'd even then. Just better than they are.
  6. Really like the close-up of the switching mechanism - great to see all the mechanical elements. I like the coloured axles. Steering using two racks is such an elegant solution. Would love to see more close ups, especially of the outrigger mechanisms. I really enjoy the mechanical solutions on complex mocs like this..
  7. Hi, i have some none lego tyres that fit lego rims - there 120mm rock crawler tyres - and also some 130mm tractor tread none lego tyres and rims (rims modified to work). My reason is i love building tractors, but even the claas tyres mean your at about 1:20 scale... i like big moc's and like to get lots of functions in.. easier when you're at 1:10 in car. the 130mm tyres not only look great but mean the scale is 1:16 which is much better and i can use the claas wheels as the fronts. If i could find some 200mm tyres i would use them! (though the axles would need to be upgraded to the metal ones, they probably do with the 130mm tyres in fairness) So i'm cool with it.. wheels are the limiting factor for some mocs so 3rd part solutions are great. ps.. i must get round to posting the current moc before i dismantle it to start the next!
  8. Why? Thats an excellent point! And taken on board... though i'm still not sure that doc applies to the many claims of illegality we see on this forum. I fully accept things not clicking home is bad form, but its not always the case.. its as though this doc has 'grown' beyond its scope? 100% right
  9. Thats not a Lego URL...thats just someone with a website? Unless he's a lego employee, its still not a real thing. ..there's some dodgy stuff on that doc! If thats the bible of legality, you've chosen the wrong god!!
  10. Is this an actual thing? I've seen the use a 3L pin declared illegal because a 3L axle was the 'right way'.. the pin wasn't forced or bent. Is there any fact supporting this illegal-sect?! I fully support things like axles as torsion bars etc... seems fine to me!!
  11. but.... so what? I think thats the point, not whether it could be an official set or not... just... why say it? if someone suggests lego would struggle to top it, why pounce on this comment with negatives? 'Topping it' is subjective. Whether it would pass muster as an official set is subjective. But as mentioned above, its passive aggressiveness that adds nothing - its not the constructive critique that i think everyone supports. But thats just an opinion, which is of course, also subjective... Really?! Thats not being constructive, surely?
  12. I tend to agree. We live in a world of hyper-sensitivity generally, and on here... Apparently so... and don't start me on the 'illegal use' of parts. that i truly don't get!! (but each to their own, i'm not precious about it...) There was an exceptional supercar posted a couple of days ago, and it was pointed out that it didn't conform to what TLG would expect of an official model!!?? So what. I say it again. So. What. The model was exceptional, i spent ages looking at the pics.. then read the comments below and i didn't think they were commenting on the same moc!! But i've said it before, its a forum, and even a good forum is still anonymous access from behind a keyboard. If the moc above was displayed in a room with all the forum members physically there, i guarantee the 'feedback' would have been different!! There is a difference between what you're referring to - genuine and balanced feedback, which is valuable, no doubt - versus some of the petty, pointless gripes that do appear on here regularly. Its a minority, but it is there.
  13. I love tractors - you've really captured the look of the real thing. Great to see tractor mocs. Must get mine posted.. never seem to have time! Love this moc though!
  14. I love the sound of metal axles - i'm using some none-lego 130mm tractor tyres for a couple of tractor projects and they cause a lot of twist in standard axles. Can you send me details about these axles? Are they available to buy from somewhere?
  15. I'm definitely looking forward to this set.. i didn't buy any of the 2017 sets, got the BWE instead! ...but 42082 looks great. its a bit different which i like. Supercars can get a bit samey. Another gearbox, more suspension, but the form factor is the same.. A car. (and some of the moc's shown on this site are awesome, better than the official sets) so unless 42083 does something mega, it doesn't really interest me... at least, not £obscene it doesn't! A big red crane, in a different form factor.. that worth a purchase. and hopefully the functions live up to expectations. not just a big empty box. fingers crossed!
  16. I love this, something a bit different is always great to see!
  17. I think the target audience is the key factor here. Nothing else. If its aimed at being built once and displayed then it will be half technic half creator with some suspension and a gearbox functions, but not accurate.. Porsche style. Piece count will be from styling. If its meant to be a technic tour-de-force for 'appreciators' then the suspension will be double wishbone and the gearbox will have more than four gears etc...and the piece count will be from technic wizardry. But the mighty dollar (euro) is the driving force here and make no mistake!! Its not t please afols with high expectations, its to please the bank at year end.... Which in turn does please us, as technic is profitable and we still get gems like arocs etc. I just think the big shiny super series models have a different role to play in financial picture. The normal flagships are aimed at me. several thousand creator pieces designed to look great on a shelf, not so much.. Worth mentioning, i'm not poo poo-ing this at all. Everyone enjoys techninc for different reasons. mine is moc-ing, has been since i was 8 (over 30 years ago!), i never keep anything built. Others like to build and display. But the driving force is the Lego balance sheet, its a simple as that... and if it keeps it in profit, i support it 100%.
  18. Thats me exactly with every set i've ever owned! Glad i'm not alone..
  19. This set has a lot more interest for me than the Bugatti.. 4000 pieces?! Bright red and massive! Awesome start.. just hope its not an empty box. Arocs is still the daddy, but that will take some beating as it had everything and was a really enjoyable build. 42009 was a poor build for me.. not sure why. But who doesn't love a big red crane?!
  20. What this set needs to make it stand out, is what someone mentioned earlier - new 4wd hubs with bigger angle cv's or similar. Plus a special gearbox. For me, they have to do that to add a bit of Whiz-Bang.. being pretty isn't enough to cover the cost. Clever and pretty and wallets will open up for it!
  21. Awesome! I love GBC.. never built anything, but one of my 2018 goals is to start. I've sooo much to learn, but i can't wait! Never built anything GBC i meant, many years of technic, so hopefully the skills are transferable!
  22. i'm looking forward to 42082.. and its red. I've not had a red set since the truly awesome 8258. I will be watching the new pneumatics valve with interest though... i tend to just buy the flagships (or claas when the FS is underwhelming), so may just pick the new parts up separately. I'd forgotten how flexible 42009 was, but you're comment rang a bell... its my least favourite of the last few years.
  23. Turntable could be the weak point, or did someone propose (cough) that it used the bwe ring-gear in black? External dimension don't look any bigger than 42009, I can't remember how robust that was though.... External dimension of the crane arm i meant to say
  24. In fairness i was supporting the position (in agreement with admin) that there's no facts, which makes it pure speculation... that doesn't make me ignorant
  25. Its anything but safe to assume... no images, no rumours, nothing except the age and box size.. its brave man thats speaks with confidence on this subject!!
