  1. This. Exactly, the title "Build the Porsche of your dreams" cover many possibilities like an existing or no existing car, but if we look carefully at the rules, criteria and description of contest we can find some interesting things, precisely the ones that Didumos is pointing out Let's star with the slogan. "I couldn't find the car I dreamt of, so I decided to build it myself". OK, so Why existing cars were allowed? ... Now lets see the criteria points. "Overall coolness and originality" Quite self explanatory, you can't be original if you pretend to build an existing model, (or TLG meant to say "originality" in the way how the pieces were used? Oh well )" Most inspired details and functions on the model ". The same as the previous point. "Understanding of the Porsche brand design and competition theme" This is the most critical point. When you are building an existing model basically you don't have to 'understand' a design at all. Why? Because you only have to follow the existing design lines. ( When I write 'only' I don't mean to say that is an easy task) To understand something you have to learn first. So in this case you have to learn and then understand for example, what is the difference between a Carrera, Turbo, Cayman and Targa madel. You have to know why some models are S, 4S, GT2 , GT3, RS, RSR. When you are building an existing car you only have to see some pictures and blueprints of the real car. But in this case, that "Understanding" criteria point persuaded you to search and read some pages like this https://www.carthrottle.com/post/an-idiots-guide-to-understanding-the-porsche-911-range/ or this https://www.stuttcars.com/technical/glossary/. Obviously you do that because you want a car that follows the Porsche design. So we could conclude that the initial fate of the contest was build a car that resembles a Porsche and existing cars were not considered. I think that TLG assumed that we would understand that and a formal statement was not necessary . Wrong! That explain why there were questions about building existing cars or not. (Even the judges didn't know). So seems like TLG rushed "on the way" the option of allow existing cars and as a consequence the fate of the contest was ruined. It's not fair to put a great existing car model against a great no one. For example what would be more appealing : a MOC with steering geometry, sequential gearbox dual clutch with paddle shifters, AWD etc in a great non existing car, or a simple independent suspension setup, 2-4 speed gearbox, RWD in a MClaren P1 body? (I'm tired of see Porsche in my soup ) The answer is obvious. Please take in mind that I'm not blaming the judges and the entries of existing cars either. Even most of my favorite ones are existing cars Well, I don't know, but TLG should compensate in any way some of the participants due the confusion generated by them and their misleading and ambiguous rules, description and criteria.. I mean, it was a WORLDWIDE (!) contest and such thing should not happen, especially if you are an important company like TLG or Porsche. Yep, I mentioned Porsche because they are part of the judges line. PS. I could write about LDD entries but it would make this post longer
  2. Too bad (really bad) that you are not a semifinalist. You have the "Overall coolness and originality" (getting the shape without using panels or flex axles is different and hard to do) "Technic feel", "Functionality" (getting and building your own suspension setup is not easy, but you did it. Something I don't get is how 2 or 3 semifinalist don't have realistic suspension and a gearbox, and they are not PF, they are just looks) and "Understanding of the Porsche brand design" (Though the car doesn't resembles perfectly to the original due lack of pieces as you said, you eally caught and Understood the Porsche classic design) About instructions or digital model... Yes, would be nice to study your car
  3. Well, since there are complains (some valid, some not so much ) due misleading and ambiguous rules and description of the contest, TLG should compensate the moral damage , . The only way is giving to the top50 a 42056 copy (no signed), to the top10 the 42056 (signed), die cast model and certificate and the first place the well known grand prize. I mean, if TLG gave a copy of the limited edition 41999 to the top 100 voters, a 42056 copy to the top50 will not hurt I already know that its not going to happen, but one never knows. Jim, could you help us, please?
  4. Well, I'm not a semifinalist and that's a sad situation because it was the only chance to get the 42056 (I can't afford it and it's overpriced) but I understand why I'm not into the semifinalists: because there were too many great and better entries. Period. So no complaints about it and judges either It was a great experience building something for a contest because you can measure how good are you building skills. Also it's an opportunity to learn and discover some techniques. And this post is one of those opportunities. So let me ask you. What failed in my MOC? What could be improved for my next car? Please don't hesitate to write any constructive criticism Take in mind that I "just" have the 42039/38 and 9397 as parts resource, though the last week I have ordered around 400 pieces that my inventory lacks (#1,2,3,4,5 connectors, thin liftarms, the bigger steering wheel some panels, and so on)
  5. Obviously entering with an existing model is not fair in any way because it was built without any kind of pressure or limited time. I didn't know that the 917K No23 was built 1 year ago. Jim, Did you and the other judges know that? About existing and non existing car, the Rebrick Admin and even Jim stated that both were allowed (though it was not clearly described formally in the contest, so maybe some thought that an existing car had less chances to win.... Shame on you TLG! ). IMHO, The contest would have been a lot funnier if existing cars were not allowed. In this way you could have been persuade to "Understand the Porsche brand design and competition theme" and build a car with "Overall coolness and originality" I think that the Lego and Porsche judges would be more interested and enjoyed to analyze something crazy like the Porsche Zero, the tracked ones, or the V8 supercar. I said that because Jim told us that TLG would prefer non existing cars . Well that's just my opinion
  6. So according to your list this is the missed entry PORSCHE 911 CLASSIC (1963) - By legophisto http://www.lego.com/en-us/rebrick/view-entry?c_id={D776AFA5-00A1-4F55-A7B3-6A07F5795B68}&a_id=ff8d24b4-9b7d-4c9a-bcfa-b9ee66f85b94&sortEntry=false The Porsche 911 Carrera Cabriolet was already included in the techniccrack list
  7. About Porsche 911 Classic by Legophisto, I've checked his entry but there isn't the "Top 20" message, Humm... (Jim you're fast editing messages lol)
  8. Congrats to all semifinalists! Indeed a tough contest. Too many great, creative and technical entries. I'm agree with Brunojj list but I'd add the 550 model by Victor Imaginator, sad that his entry is not a semifinalist Jim, who is the other semifinalist according with techniccrack list?
  9. In the FB Lego Technic page, you can find and interesting video where you can see a prototype https://m.facebook.c...121747301544694
  10. Hi Jim This is http://www.lego.com/en-us/rebrick/view-entry?c_id={D776AFA5-00A1-4F55-A7B3-6A07F5795B68}&a_id=da45b1eb-4cdc-44d8-a419-dd8c768e86f8&sortEntry=false He only modified the front bonnet, the interior, the spoiler, the flat engine and added some panel to the sides (over the rear mudguards) But the rest is the same car by Paul.
  11. It's happening (Though it has small and cosmetic changes)
  12. Since none has said it yet, I'll say it. HOF! Agree with Rishab and Leonardo , it's one of my favorite and one of your best
  13. Who knows,. Maybe the prototype had the same lever system but the crane rotation was manual operated? Though a 3 lever system would be awesome
  14. I'd say that the prototype crane resembles to the 9397 one. So it's no hard to reproduce it for the Claas. But I guess that the gearbox will take alot space and will make the crane bulkier than the actual one. About the B attachment with the prototype crane, well I think that they already had it. Even if you see closely to the crane, it has the same panels. Maybe TLG just wanted to save costs (less gears, a miniLA less, a gear rack house less and every piece that you see there less). That could explain why the crane looks rushed, crude and built in 1 night as Desert stated in his video review
  15. Why not 42054? It's a great good looking set, has interesting functions and building technics. Also it comes with useful pieces and it's cheaper than BWE and Porsche. But as nerdsforprez you have the Internet for a full and detailed info about each set that could be enough to make a decision. Just put attention to every detail of the reviews and building videos. PS. I see this thread merged with Which Technic Set should I buy thread
  16. No, you are not, though I find more interesting the Xerion building a than any set of this year , i don't know if I am the only one
  17. After this video I don't know if get the 42053 or spend more on this. It has a great building experience, interesting techniques and many useful parts
  18. Jim I have a question. Since there are some entries that represent the same car, how will you judge them? Only one will be chosen? Or It doesn't matter (?)
  19. My favorites are the 550 by Victor, the Carrera GT by Fanny Lover, the Super Tractor by Kit Fisto, the 919 by Charbel and the 917K NO23 by thomaszettl3240 (Not EB member). They deserve to be in the top 10. I said that because TO ME,there are two that will fight the first place. The 718 Boxster of MrTekneex (It looks really good and has more functions than any other entry) and the 919 Hybrid by MBPN390 (it looks so accurate, though there aren't many impressive functions like other entrys, check his entry in the Rebricks page)
  20. Looks beautiful and massive! I really like how the CAT brand is made with bricks
  21. 69 entries... Impressive... Seems like the chances to win are decreasing drastically ... For the members, Who do you think that will be the winner?
  22. Hola Jorge. Lo demás está excelente e increíble Translation I'd leave the roof as it is. Maybe I'd move the 15L beams (that connect the roof with the rear) as close as possible to the red #1connectors placed in the middle (center pillars). In this way the beams will flow with the flex axles and the roof will not look so high. Apart form that everything looks amazing
  23. I also was wondering about the 2700 pieces in the real car when I saw it in the digital instructions... What a coincidence!
  24. Wow! It's beautiful As the other members said, it's instantly recognizable. Impressive how you catch the lines with a simple paneling (no crazy angles). Any plans to bring us instructions in the future? Also Do you have a photo of the interior?
