Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jonfensu replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hope the pictures are not so big After see this picture, I find this set as a fail in terms of functions/price. Looks good, great source of panels and it's big but functions are way simple for a 1327 pieces set. no In the other hand, the B model of the BMW looks so good, really good shape Is interesting to see the black Curved 3x7 panel that appears on 42056. I don't like the pneumatic hose as fool RC Antenna. I am not sure about final price. 80EUR for a 370 pieces set with that PF pack looks expensive. I would prefer pay 200 EUR forr a 8043 (second hand). -

42058, 42059: Nice to see a ramp. Good donor of bionicle tooth and azure panels. The shape and looks is not good compared to the pullbacks of 1H 2016 42060: Remembers me to the construction crew of 2014. The truck has a considerable quantity of the "Pin with pin hole" piece and 7L Orange beams. Also comes with Two 9L Orange beams (!!!) . The whole model looks weird for an official Lego set 42061: Where is it? 42062: Really nice set as pieces donor: Orange parts, 5x7 frames, gear rack of 42043 in LGB, 5x11 panels . The telehandler looks cute. Seems to include the new piece that BMW uses for kickstand. The trucks looks really simple (Hope the trailer is build with 5x7 frames). Worries me the position of the HOG steering. I will add this to me wishlist 42063. A must buy (Also in my wishlist) 42064: Holy panels! a lot 3x11 panels in Dark blue and DBG. L panel in white. Seems to have 2 functions operated by two gears on top: For rotating the crane and (?). The small explorer also has 2 functions. The ship looks really well and huge! No PF upgrade 42065: Really nice PF pack. I was expecting 2 L motors but it would increase the price. That's the opportunity to get a transmitter and receiver for a low price. (Get two and you will be close to build the 8043) Definitely also in my wishlist. 42066. We need to see the official picture (!) We need prices! -
That's incredible! Makes me want to buy a 42042, 42043 and 42054. I find these GBC more interesting that others because they are alternative models, that means limited pieces and just 1 motor! How I have not seen these models before? Thank you for sharing

[MOC] Ferrari 308 GTSi
Jonfensu replied to Jeroen Ottens's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
+1 for the Aston Martin. I am totally sure that the feeling after building the Aston will be far better than building the Porsche. Just compare them -
Since you like cars, the best combo would be 42038 and 42037, even I see an interesting project like building the 42038 B model, but including the differential, wheels and fake engine of the 42037 or building a Monster truck. Don't forget that those are the oldest sets of the 3 that you are aiming and will be retired eventually. The 42053 will be found for the next 1.5 years in the stores oh, and it doesn't come with Power Functions . Just my 2 cents, but the combo that you choose is really good. I also want the 42053
-
Really depends on where are you living and what do you want to build. Since you are getting into Technic, you have two options: - Go for a medium-big model (900-1400 pieces) to understand the building techniques, concepts (like gearboxes, suspension setups etc)and get many useful pieces. There you can find interesting models like 42039,42029, 42052, 42025, 9397 or 42042. Many of these provides useful pieces, even PF. In this range you could find the 42038 and 42053, great models BTW, but without a great quantity of usefull pieces and limited playability (though the 42053 is the exception) - Go for flagship models (+ 1500 pieces) to get the best experience of Technic with a much better variety of pieces, playability and B models . Here really depends on what do you want. The most balanced model is the 42043 (PF, Pneumatics, suspension parts etc). In the other hand there is the 42030 with a complete PF pack, complete playability but not complex build, or the 42054 with an amazing look, interesting building techniques, and great playability due steering mods and attachments. (Avoid the Porsche if you really want to get the best price per piece, complexity and functions) Since you already have a small - medium set, personally I would not go for another medium set, especially I would avoid the 2016 ones (42049, 42050) because they are way simple and overpriced compared to the 2015 (42037, 42040) and those medium sets won't add so much to your Technic experience . if you don't want to spend so much money, go for the first option. As you can see I've included some not so recent models like 9397 , but those are really awesome and can be find for a good prize in used condition. And don't forget an important rule (that I've learn thanks to the forum): Get older sets first, otherwise get the ones with a better parts pack and complexity. if you are not sure about that, watch some speed building videos.

Oh I see. But it's mind-blowing how fast do you build such great models. A Mclaren?! The DB11 can wait, don't worry ....Sounds pretty exciting (Hope it's a P1, with those crazy curves in every side). Is it also a commissioned model, or we could expect a WIP topic? -

[MOC] Porsche 918 Spyder
Jonfensu replied to Jonfensu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Shame one me. I forgot to say 'Thank you' to all for the positive comments and interest on the shifter I've tuned the shifter, and now it works flawlessly. Now it feels softer and even require less travel. Before, the shock absorber was compressed 3/4 stud, and now compress 1/2 stud. Also the returning of the mechanism is softer. On the con side, when I pull de shifter, it will not make a complete 90° rotation, (as you can see in the picture) but it's not a big difference and it will complete the rotation once I release the paddle (With a huge help of the limiter ) How it works'. Each paddle is independent and has a knob for each one. Basically it uses the principle of a stopper, (independent) but not fixed. So there is a synchronized movement between the stopper and the knob. Once I pull the paddle, both pieces get in touch, making the shift. Once I release the paddle, both pieces go away from each one freely without turning the output knob. Also the "walls" on sides are not just to hide the content I could share with you a picture, but still I have to figure out if it works with the gearbox (that I've to build It). I will share it in the future. Sorry- 19 replies

[TC10] Backhoe
Jonfensu replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Wow wow! It's like a 8455 with steroids. It's really awesome! I mean, the shape is perfect, everything is well proportioned, the details .... One thing that I really like is how you include a working steering wheel because in most of the cases, it's omitted in construction machines. Waiting for the video anxiously (Why you make this to me, I mean, you make me want to build a Telehandler, and now I want to build a Backhoe ) -

@Didumos69 About the force to do a shift, I think I should compare it with other paddle shifters, but I guess there are three factors: the structure around the steering wheel must be stronger and well attached to the chassis;the paddles and the links in the steering column are shorter compared to the one that you show us in the video, so the lever effect will not be greater and I was using one hand to do a shift and hold the module at the same time I will try to resolve one minor issue, after that I will give you the ldd file @Jurss Thank you for the suggestion, I will take it into consideration @brunojj1 I will tell and show you in a PM the contest , just for the on topic sake- 19 replies

[MOC] Porsche 918 Spyder
Jonfensu replied to Jonfensu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thank you. I am glad that you can see the headaches that gave me some sections of the car. It was not the case in the LUG, so I got a 3rd place in the contest. Mixed feelings about the result. BUT in the other hand I won a pneumatic V2 system , and I don't have those pieces Anyway. Going on topic, I've been working on the paddle shifter system, using my initial concept (shock absorbers under the driver seat). The main goal was making the paddles closer to the real life, with short travel, closer to the steering wheel and without visible rubber bands on the dashboard. All in a module that fits in a 1:10 car. Though it is still using one rubber band for the 90° limiter created by @Didumos69 Here is a teaser of the concept http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVbom6tBhP0- 19 replies

@Milan Wowow! WT... I see. I thought he was going to make BI (PDF and Printed) for his MOD. You are right: create a nice building instruction for free or small charge of you MOC is fine... But this is in another universe Definitely there is not point to discuss about it. @Paul Boratko He is just trying to fool us. Or maybe he misunderstood the TLG answer or maybe he just did an ambiguous question to TLG to get a "yes". Anyway any smart person know that nobody can use a company's logo without proper permissions and even make profits... well except OP I find this topic disturbing. But I'll grab some popcorn
-
As far as I can understand, OP is going to offer a free PDF BI and a Printed BI for 5? (55?) USD with LEGO ® logo printed on the cover,am I right? (Being honest I didn't see his previous topics) Well, there is not problem with that. Just don't use the LEGO logo as Blakbird show us with the holly-wood case. Also don't Include any page or whatsoever of the original BI. Anyway my 2 cents. don't waste your money printing BI for selling those in Internet. It isn't worth

Jonfensu replied to Jonfensu's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yep, you're right. It should be the 14L one, but oh God, those are expensive! I have to buy the parts in bricklink, so you have to include €5 of shipping. Indeed, that the best way is using pneumatic hoses. Just for the "economic shake". The possibility of buying parts here, directly to an AFOL, is null (the only exception was a 8461 that a LUG member bought here for $20, but that will not happen again) Is really nice to read that you are building a manual supercar, I am looking forward to it, definitely! . I don't think that everything were explored in the manual supercars. Well, the only exception are the cars built in 1:8 scale, but the 1:10 supercars still have "room" (though not so much, literally ) for improvements and features, for example (correct me if I'm wrong) I have not seen one with working paddle shiftes and RND selector. So the challenge is up.- 19 replies

Yeah, agree with Jeroen. Well done!. Definitely" a must" set I suggest the 8258 for, your next project . Though if you have a 8043, would be better -
Wow! I've seen the WIP since the first post, but I didn't understand what were you building until I did a search about this excavator. :o. I've never seen something like that before! (that's what you get when you live in third-world country). What a cool machine and MOC. Anyway, the only thing that worries me is learn the switch controls

Thanks Meatman...A police interceptor..Hmmm, I did not think about that possibillity but sounds great, just need some blue and red lights Thanks Bruno, I really aprecciate your opinion (Even I was waiting your post and experience ). I have read your first comment and I will take in consideration the use of soft axles, though, currently I do not have 16L (its quiet expensive) but I will try to get some in the future. About shifter mechanism, your prototype looks great, especially that it was working smooth with the regular 3L connector of the newest driving rings. Are you building a manual Supercar? About my shifter concept, it was different. It was using 2 soft shock absorbers behind the driver´s seat for each paddle shifter. I´d say that the paddles are finished, the complex part comes with the shifter itself.. Lets see what I can do with my limit experience, because I want to create my own version, but I will try to take the time to make it Yeah, those wheels are beutiful, except for the abscence of axle connection. Sadly they are only compatible with 1:8 scale- 19 replies

HI This is my dream Porsche for the Lego Rebrick Contest a LUG contest It was built in one month Features - 1:10 Scale - Working steering wheel and HOG steering - Independent suspension - RWD and 3+R gearbox (the same of Lipko's Simple Supercar, though with a different structure) - Openable doors and trunk - Adjustable spoiler with a knob I just wanted to share it with you to know your opinions and what could be improved, because it's not the final version.- let's call it Ver. 1.0 - Initially I wanted to create a sequential gearbox with paddle shifters using shock absorbers. I built it, but it didn't work well. Also, I wanted to build a similar suspension setup as the Carrera GT, but again I failed. So I ran out of time and patience and build a simple mechanism. Anyway, my initial plans are still up and if is possible include RND and AWD though right now (to me) seems very hard to do in such scale. About bodywork.... There are some sections (like the headlights) including color scheme that I could improve but I have to buy the parts first (my inventory is really small compared with many of you hehe). Here are more pics More pics here

Technic 2017 Set Discussion
Jonfensu replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
No, he didn't mean to say that. He is saying that TLG is only bringing new parts in few sets where are really needed (like Claas, Mercedez, Porsche etc) whereas the other sets don't have any new or special piece. @AOW I guess it's something that we could expect with the big sets, though some small and medium brings nice pieces but in not a great quantity. About setups, well, you are right in some aspects. For example The setup suspension on Porsche, 42039 and 8070 is basically the same. And the steering system in some vehicles (especially trucks) use almost the same pieces. But I suppose that it's more like a method of some designers. For example the cars mentioned above were designed by Uwe, so like the pieces part, it's something that we could expect as well. -
