Kinda bummed out at the lack of knee articulation. It definitely looks really cool, but where's the fun if you can't give it cool poses? Sucks that they couldn't figure out a way to do it

It’s not 2017-2018, but if you can try get the 42043 Mercedes Benz Arocs 3245 from 2015 2H. It comes with a great assortment of Technic parts and still hasn’t been outmatched by any set since. To be honest 2017 and 2018 1H haven’t really been that impressive from a parts standpoint, if that’s what you’re after. They were mostly just beams, wheels and some gears. No pneumatics, and a small number of the crappy stiff springs. If you’re after parts I’d suggest just bricklinking them or holding off until 2H this year.

Oh my god this is amazing. There’s no BS aesthetic fluff, just raw shapes and function. Great use of specialised parts like pneumatics, turntables for pendular suspension, a fake engine and the torque tube. This is absolutely 100% what TLG should be striving towards. You should be very proud of it!- 34 replies

That eyestalk is 100% rule of cool. You could just as easily install cameras all over the chassis, but then it would be boring That eyestalk is 100% rule of cool. 42080 Forest Harvester
Bartybum replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The problem isn’t in the actual pumping mechanism, auto pumping is awesome. The problem comes from all the extra baggage that comes with a motorised pump - the motor and the battery box. On a set with smaller proportions like 42080, you end up sacrificing some of the shaping of the set, as seen with the huge rear of the A-model and the really high bed of the B-model. This of course goes without mentioning that I’ve got billions of battery boxes and don’t want more, but do want more pneumatics. Motorised pumps are great in a large set like 8110 or 42043, because the inclusion of the battery box and the motor don’t negatively affect the shape of the build.- 313 replies

To get it close you’ll need to remove the battery box, which means going manual pneumatics. I’d suggest a pump that can be pulled out of the model’s back, or one that’s disguised as an exhaust stack. By removing PF and the battery box you’ll be able to lower the height of the rear section and move it backwards, allowing you to also move the cabin turntable backwards so it’s over the steering pivot. Finally you’d want to remove the steering and suspension of the front axle so that you can add new pendular suspension for the left and right wheel groups. In doing so you’ll also be able to lower the body height of the front and back.

42080 Forest Harvester
Bartybum replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For one, not to use the long panel as the bonnet. That’s what makes it look so garish. Tbh they kinda shot themselves in the foot by including PF with this set. The giant battery box has no place to sit in either models and look normal, particularly on the B-model- 313 replies

Opinions on LEGO Technic Theme
Bartybum replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well I’m definitely happy you’re not a mod... you shouldn’t have such an adverse reaction towards people disliking things that you like. The problems people have with Technic as it stands today are perfectly valid. -

Might be worth a try to hook up the winch to a cable drum powered by the worm gear that that winds up as the fork rises. -

Opinions on LEGO Technic Theme
Bartybum replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@Cumulonimbus Your comment on set sizes increasing is one of the things about Technic that worries and annoys me. I want higher part counts to go into functions, not structure and decoration. -
I agree that there should be something way better for the B-model. It’s kinda boring the way it is at the moment.
