42083 - Bugatti Chiron
Bartybum replied to Jurss's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
An auto gearbox isn’t too hard actually, just it’s very different from what you’d find in a car. One way is to use a differential that shifts gear combinations just like a manual gearbox, but it does so depending on how much torque is required - the more torque needed, the lower the gear goes. It’s quite simple but takes up quite an amount of space. Only thing is, I don’t think the new rotary mechanism would be useful for an auto gearbox with more than two gears. -

Why why not edit the title to say “DO NOT POST LEAKS” so these bellends finally see -

@Frequenzberater Technically you could have auto transmission at a really high gear such that pushing the car forward would force the transmission to lower a gear, but then you’re stuck with the problem that you only get a high and low gear, and only get to use the low one when the car’s rolling. In addition the gears wouldn’t change when you push the model uphill, which is the whole schtick of auto transmissions. So, you could have it, but it just wouldn’t function nicely -

Not true actually! You can use manual transmission without PF and still see the effect it has on the engine. With automatic trans you’d need to hold on to the crankshaft to create the stress in the drivetrain required to change gears. -

As cool as that would be, it’s not gonna be that. Automatic transmission is quite bulky, and without PF there’s no need for it. I’m pretty sure it’s been confirmed that there’s no PF in this set. All Lego auto transmissions run on the concept of it being too hard for the motor to operate at a high gear, thereby kicking in a lower and lower gear until the motor can supply enough torque to push the car along. An unpowered model moves because you (not the motor) push it, so the need for transmission effectively goes away. -

Oh man they’ve nailed the back, it’s BONKERS. I assume those are CLAAS hubs behind the discs. -

@Erik Leppen I think he’s talking about the hood. The designers took all the effort to cover up gaps in the body but left large holes in the hood. It’s different than filling a circular hole with squares. -

From what I’ve seen people aren’t unhappy with the Chiron as a whole, just the weird execution of the front. That’s a fair thing to be unhappy about. -

@Didumos69 True that. I really wanna try my hand at the Chiron using mainly flex axles, but I don't have anywhere near enough, nor the time to do so. -

A little comparison I made between the leaks and the real thing from two almost identical angles. All I've done to the leak is go over the main contours of the set exactly to give a good feel for the set's shape. Note: I have no idea whether this is allowed @Jim, since it's a derivative of the leaked photo. If it's not then pls remove versus They got the side curve really well, but you can see the front isn't pointed enough, and the front side ridges are too straight. Flex axles would've worked better here I reckon. That being said, this is just a single photo, and perhaps the front will look better from other angles, so here's hoping. -
Lets talk color vomit

I think it’s generally not worth getting into a tizzy over, because y’know, it’s done so it’s easier to find pieces. That being said, what does annoy me is bad colour schemes on sets e.g. the late yours truly 42080.
