Adventurers - Johnny Thunder's Office
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
It's supposed to look like an old stone building, but I guess since the source building was modern-ish, it could be thought of that way. Please look at the picture of the inside for the treasures. All the treasure I could think of is in the second picture. This includes: -The One Ring (from Lord of the Rings) -A trident from Atlantis (it's a old Lego theme from 2009) -Spear of Destiny (Christian religious item, also seen in a Indiana Jones comic.) -Aztec silver glove (also from a Indiana Jones comic book) -A Ivory sword from Orient Expedition -Roman Shield (nothing special here) -Death's Scythe (from a non-official Johnny Thunder comic I read on Brickshelf from 2007, long story) The rest of his stuff is in the crates.- 5 replies

Adventurers - Sinister family Mansion

Thank you! The treasure room would be in the attic, if Johnny wouldn't keep getting to all the treasures first! (In all seriousness, I forgot to put treasure up there... but I will when I get it.)- 6 replies

Background for the locomotives and train: "Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 302" is one of a very rare breed. Built in August 1949 as a “A” (cab) and “B” (booster) F7 diesel unit for the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe Railway (AT&SF), This Electro-Motive Division (EMD) product was painted in a variant of the famous Warbonnet (red, yellow and silver) color scheme called Bluebonnet (blue yellow and silver). The engine was intended for freight service and did so faithfully for 28 years. In late 1977 the two unit set was on the short list for conversion to an CF7 hood unit when the Wabash Frisco & Pacific (or WF&P for short) went looking for a engine to pull it's recently refurbished Merrimack River Runner. The Santa Fe gave them a two-for-one special on the tired F7 units, with the WF&P buying the A unit and getting the B for free. The new owner realized the historic meaning of this deal more than the old owner did: this was one of the last bluebonnet engines left, and one of a handful of AT&SF F7's not converted to the horrid looking CF7 hood unit. Needless to say, the WF&P snapped up the offer, and even set the loco to the EMD La Grange, Illinois assembly plant for the motor to be replaced with a newer, more powerful and easier-to-maintain power plant. The units came back to the WF&P in 1979, and have since been teamed up with the recently restored Southern Pacific Daylight 4460 (owned by the St. Louis-based National Transportation Museum) for trips up and around WF&P system. The front of the two units. The inside of the Cab (or A) unit. The inside of the Booster (or B) unit. Here we see the Merrimack River Runner being pulled by ex - AT&SF unit #302 The open platform observation car beings up the rear of the train. It may be hard to tell, but each passenger car has tables and chairs with removable roof on top. The baggage car is empty, and the locomotives have mechanical stuff including engine blocks and cab controls. Builders notes: Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe 302 really existed, but I have no idea what it was painted. It was probably either scrapped or converted to a CF7 hood unit along with most of the other F7 locos. The number I used came from the LEGO set number 10020, which uses number 301 for it's Warbonnet painted loco. I wanted this to a be a sister loco, so I used the next one up: 302. The Wabash Frisco & Pacific is a real 12 inch gauge steam railway based in Glencoe, MO. For my purposes they have been turned into a "real" railway. The Merrimack River Runner is a copy of the Missouri River Runner, a real Amtrak train starting from St. Louis and ending in Kansas City before reversing course and going back to St. Louis with some stops in between both cities. Also, the original LEGO Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe (known as the Santa Fe) Super Chief trains cars from the early 2000's were looking a little dated, so I redid them. I added Emerald Night style doors, removed the expensive roof slopes, and added a rear platform instead of the (extremely costly) curved window glass. The Southern Pacific 4460 really exists, but has not steamed since 1959. It is located in St. Louis MO at the real-life Transportation Museum. This is my Bluebonnet powered passenger train made into a sprite of the same style used by Herby's New LEGO train Depot, which features every Lego train rendered as a sprite. (link to that website: http://www.fa-meier....epot/index.html ) Anyway, the train is pulled by two F7 locomotives (that's one cab unit and one booster unit), while the train is made up of one baggage car, three passenger coaches, and one observation / lounge car. Here is the LDD file for the train: http://www.mocpages....1417446093m.lxf And as always Comments, Questions and Complaints welcome!

Introducing "Tower 22", a late 1990's inspired LEGO signal tower: Inspired by Whoward69's signal tower, (link: https://www.flickr.c...s-55973205@N08/ ) this enlarged version features two removable sections (the roof and second floor) and a staircase to the second floor. There are studs on the front of the building to spell out TOWER 22 (Or whatever two digit number you want to.) using printed 1x1 tiles. The tower also has two computers on the second floor for train signal / switch direction control, while the first floor is empty. Adventurers - Sinister family Mansion
Murdoch17 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Action and Adventure Themes
I have the automobile that Sam drives, and I hopefully will be able to afford this Mansion soon. Last I checked, it was $25 USD (plus shipping from the two sellers) for the furniture and $215 USD (from five more sellers) for the house. All in all, this is easily a $250 project for the Sinister Mansion alone, while the updated Island Hopper will be another $35... and I haven't even calculated Johnny's office yet.- 6 replies

This classic 90's LEGO-styled model was originally built in 2007 by a Brickshelf user named "Widdi". That user uploaded the instructions (seen here: http://www.brickshel...ry.cgi?f=249223 ) which I stumbled upon and built / modified in Lego Digital Designer. I put another story on top for the tower, set furniture inside, added a back half, and worked a garage into the structure. The Sinister Mansion: Where you will never want to leave! Fictional Background for the house: Built in 1910, Sinister Manor is one of the last surviving houses in the Edwardian Style of architecture in Ironwood county. It was built by Lord Gregory Sinister for his family, and features one addition not usually seen on Edwardian houses: a automobile garage. The house was left to Gregory's family, (his son Sam Sinister & his sister Alexis Sinister) upon the elder Sinister's death of a stroke in 1913. Sam Sinister went on to serve in the British army in World War I, losing his left hand in the conflict and replacing it with a iron hook. When he returned from the conflict Sam set about continuing his fathers tradition: collecting treasure precious artifacts, through legal and illegal means. The collection was stored in the Attic of the sinister Mansion until it became too large and was moved to a more secure (and secret) location. The inside features the furniture from my Haunted House (10228) MOD, including (but not limited to): a Queen size bed, stove, table, phonograph, sidetable with lamp plus the couch. The first floor I has the living / dining rooms, as the couch, stove and table and other associated items are there. The second floor features the master bedroom with a small balcony on the right side. The third floor is the attic, which is empty. The tower / roof (fourth floor) is also empty. The Rear of the house. This model is significantly cheaper / less parts intensive than my other Victorian Mansion (the one based off the Monster Fighter's "Haunted House") This car, the Ogel Mark III, goes in the garage. Here are the cars statistics: Model Name: Ogel MK III Configuration: two seat Engine Class: V8 Designer: Lord Ogel Build Date: 1925 Builder: Ogel Motor Car Works Current Owner: Lord Sam Sinister Length: 21 studs Width: 6 studs Height: 5 bricks Top Speed: 88 MPH Fictional background for the car: After the Orient Expedition of 1924, Lord Sam Sinister's Island Racer was seized by Soviet (Russian) forces when Sinister tried bribing his way onto the Trans-Siberian express without the proper papers. Sinister was put on the next train out of Russia without the car. In early 1925 he boarded the Simplon-Orient Express bound for Paris from Istanbul. While in Paris he telephoned the Ogel Motor Car Corporation asking for a newer, faster and more expensive car to be sent to his home at Sinister Manor in three weeks. Sinister arrived at his Edwardian-style manor to find this car waiting for him. It features two seats, a spare tire, a much longer wheelbase and goes 13 miles per hour faster than his old car. LDD file for the house & car: http://www.mocpages....1416516743m.lxf Comments, questions and complaints welcome!

Inspired by the building in set 6484, (Batmobile and the Two-Face Chase) this building features two floors and a "cast iron" facade. Fictional Background: Built as an office building in 1898, Johnny Thunder bought it in 1918 after returning from serving in World War I. He then turned it into his personal office. The top floor was renovated into a storage / trophy room, while the bottom floor holds actual office with a table, desk + chairs, hat rack and three filing cabinets full of important contact information, treasure leads, and reports of strange occurrences, along with the occasional Vegemite Sand-which. Currently, the objects inside the trophy room include a Sword made in India out of ivory, a ancient Roman Shield from Italy, a golden Ring of Power from a land far away, a silver glove of an Aztec suit of armor, the Spear of Destiny from Jerusalem, a Trident from Atlantis, and a scythe from the Land of the Dead. The rear of the building is hinged to the front (like in set 31026, Bike Shop & Cafe) and locks together with a Technic pin. The roof top deocrations were inspired by fellow EB user, Kristel, with the instructions provided on her blog: http://modularsbykristel.com/ The real life Treasure Raider, which happens to be included in the updated LDD file, plus it's own digital file. This is getting off topic, but "USA style" was meant to explain the engines (and most of the cars) are based off American prototypes. Granted, some look "foreign", but it is the best I have / could do. (I did the same thing with my real life UK-style train topic.) Also, my BRS European-style stock was not photographed just to prevent such confusion. Also, I fairly certain some Civil War photos have two wheel rolling stock: I'm fairly confident the famous mobile mortar named "The Dictator" had two wheels.

Thanks, I'll be sure to pass the praise to Dr. Overbuild. I just wish more people would keep the memory alive.... but then again, if more people cared / played maybe the game wouldn't be gone! -
Thrice upon a Time, in a city called Hill Valley California, there was a time machine made out of a Delorean sports car. But this is not about that device and it's many adventures, but a special steam engine that could also travel in time. It was known as... THE TIME TRAIN The Back to the Future (BTTF) Time Train "Jules Verne" has been made in real bricks, and is heavily inspired by he one Team BTTF had presented in their rejected LEGO Ideas model. In BTTF part III, the engine itself was really built, but the tender was CGI animated. The engine used in the film can be seen at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida On the original model, parts of it would spin and the engine could be motorized via Power Functions. I removed those features to save money and make it weight less. I did add working pistons to the model, though. The tender of the time train. "Doc" Emmett Brown (left) and his wife Clara (right) with the time train front and center. EDIT 4/14/15: I removed the cab interior and changed the orange parts on the tender, along with refining the front end. Also, the gizmo no longer spins. EDIT 5/9/18: Added newer pictures, revised the text, and changed some parts of the model to fit into a 10 wide space. EDIT 5/14/18: All but two Bricklink orders are in my hands, with one coming tomorrow and the other on it's way. EDIT 5/20/18: Added real life pictures and revised the text. EDIT 5/25/18: Added revised picture showing the working pistons. The updated LDD file for the finished model is available at Bricksafe.

Thanks, if you want your own versions, the LDD files for those models are available at my MOCPage under the Trains folder: (link to homepage: http://www.mocpages.com/home.php/80135 ) or at my LDD topic with rest of my BRS models. (link http://www.eurobrick...showtopic=93584 ) Yes, I would like to do that, but it was snowing outside at that time, and a grainy cell phone camera was the best I could do, since the photographer in my family refused to help with the pictures. Some of the freight cars (water tanker, rock hopper, the drop side gondola) for the were built from set 2126, while the boxcars were designed from instructions for set 3677. (they were green there, though!) Also, the updated Adventurer's car was inspired by set 5920, Island Racer. There were tons of early rolling stock with two axels, and some modern ones. Technically, tractor-trailer hauling inter-modal cars only have one axle, with the other side being supported by the next car in the train.

Very carefully... the first, third, and fifth driver rows are blind. However, I'm having some issues with the rear truck derailing, but I think I know why and I (probably) can fix it. EDIT: fixed it by redesigning the rear truck.

Thanks everyone with the compliments! Here is something new to add to my build list: Ironwood Hotel This Hotel was born out of boredom. I was not doing much when I stumbled upon set 7633 (2009's Construction Site, link: http://www.bricklink...em.asp?S=7633-1 ) and was hit with the idea of making that CITY building front into a Creator-style full building with an opening back. I struggled with the design until i saw some Friends - themed instructions by a blogger named Kristel. (link to her awesome blog: http://modularsbykristel.com/ ) Her "Joanna’s Place" instructions inspired the roof design and the middle floors' windows. Then I combined all that with the HOTEL sign from the 2007 Cafe Corner modular building. (link: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?S=10182-1 ) I threw together the interior, (If you can call three beds and a front desk "interior"!) at the last minute. As I said before, I am no interior designer. The beds were copied from Medieval Market Village (set 10193, link: http://www.bricklink...m.asp?S=10193-1 ) and the desk was a table scrap. LDD file for the Hotel: http://www.mocpages....1415988835m.lxf What do you think about the Hotel (or any other one of the buildings)?
