  1. Inspired by some of the other excellent threads on this forum, I decided to have a go at lengthening my First Order Transporter: I've added an extra 16 studs, twelve of them in the troop compartment: it can now take a total of twenty stormtroopers. I have rebuilt a lot of the details: I have also shortened the cockpit and moved it back. It is accurate in profile and still fits a minifig. Finally, I've lengthened the engines and added some greeblies to the space between them. Sourcing another 16 stormies was fun but expensive: Battle of Takodana + 2 batle packs + 2 Bricklink orders. Special thanks to our very own Lobot for his rapid and friendly Bricklink service. Many thanks also to Vodnik, deskp, Veynom & Solscud007 for their inspiration. If anyone wants to build this mod, I've created a Lego Digital Designer file: (LXF) This file is slightly different to my "real bricks" version, due to Lego Digital Designer being a crotchety old block. Bonus fun - Spot the differences! To build the version in the LXF, you will need a 75103 First Order Transporter and about 470 extra parts: (XLS). Having an extra 75103 on hand (£40 on ebay with no minifigs) cuts that down to 300 parts: (XLS).
  2. Greetings, Today I have decided to create one of the most sought after SW sets that hasn't happened. You've read the title so you know of course it is a Yavin Base MOC. This is actually my second go at making this, my first attempt (which can be found here.), is very poorly executed with multiple design flaws that are too far from creative liberties, and very poor support. Now I have ditched the exterior, made it entirely interior based for improved playability (and difficulty to recreate the exterior correctly), made lots of braces going through the floor, put various triangle brackets and braces in the walls, made it a two-part modular build, and I gave it a final minutes of the battle tension as the theme (very clear with the placement of the minifigs). Briefing Room (Note: The 6x6 flat tile will be white w/ a cutout of DS plans on a black sticker) War Room T-65 X-Wing in Hanger Rear T-65 X-Wing in Hanger Front Arm w/ Rotating Droid Magnet (No Droid For Use) Fuel Tank w/ Refueling Hose How To Separate/Reconnect War Room to Briefing Room. [There are color and print problems as usual with just the minifigs and X-Wing (mod of unreleased Yavin set version for now)]. Hope you liked it. Yavin Base Command Center.lxf
  3. Okay, so I'm freaking out a little bit about this problem. I went to open up an lxf. file in LDD, one that I had been working on for a loooooong time; my T-70 X-Wing MOC. But when I went to open it, nothing showed up. No grid, no model; when I try to generate instructions for it it just churns, the screeenshot mode (whatever it's called) is just a blank screen. Do any of you know what this problem is, or how I could fix it? Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks. EDIT: Never mind, everyone! For some reason, the typical right-click to drag the view around moved the model and grid in the frame.
  4. Hi! This is an old MOC of mine - strictly speaking a MOD of Larry Lars' excellent snowspeeder model, which I urge you all to take a look at. He has provided instructions, and they are a masterclass in advanced SNOT techniques. I put the LXF file on Brickshelf in July. I notice that someone else on this forum has picked up on it: so rather than clutter up another topic, I thought this might be a good time to take some photos and do a full post. As I said: most of this is lifted straight from Larry Lars' design. However, I was never completely satisfied with the accuracy of Larry's MOC. The changes I made were: The sides slope all the way up to the canopy: The heatsink/grille at the back is angled slightly: The engines exhausts are positioned closer to the centre-line of the ship: The underside is as accurate as I could make it. One of these days I might SNOT it, but for now: The LXF is very similar to the physical model, but four pieces at the back would not attach, no matter what I did: To aid anyone who wants to build this model, here is a photo of one of the missing parts in place, with the top of the housing removed so you can see how it fits: More photos are available in my flickr set. EDIT: Brickshelf keeps on disappearing, so I've put the files in my dropbox folder: White: LXF XML Grey: LXF XML Thanks for looking!
  5. For a while now, I have been itching to know just how LXFML files work. Although there is official documentation to explain the purpose of the <nodes>, information which details the attributes of these nodes is scarce. The most useful thing to understand would be the "transformation" attribute of the <Bone> nodes, which appears to contain data about the position and orientation of each <brick>. However, before we can even begin to try to understand the comma-seperated values here, we need to understand the LDD grid, how the application displays it to you, the user, and how it relates to the 3D Cartesian Co-ordinate System. Take a look at this image here! This is what I have learned about the LDD grid from doing a series of tests on an instance of part 3039, placed in the very centre of the LDD grid. I planned 32 test cases which resulted in all the basic positions for a brick that I could think of, and made a PHP script to read the LXFs, extract their values, and display them in a comparison table. The X, Y and Z movement values are pretty obvious, but the rotation values less so. 10 tests are pending (because I think I really should have made sense of these values by now), and I see no sense in doing them until I have an "epiphany". Seriously, Just LOOK at the changed values (in red) on that table. Could there be some sort of bitwise combinations going on with fields 1-9? My brain is getting smashed in by plastic rocks here.

  8. 21050 Architecture Studio LDD file by vynsane, on Flickr If you're like me and can't yet afford to purchase LEGO 21050 Architecture Studio, or like to fiddle around digitally on the train, here's all 1210 pieces in a convenient LDD file! Download Now! For best results, follow the instructions on how to use this as a custom palette over at here. For Mac osX Lion users (and above), you'll first need to unhide the Library folder in your user profile folder to follow that procedure. Note: I considered posting this in the "Official LEGO Sets made in LDD" topic, but it's not really a model, but just a collection of all the pieces.
  9. I've been hoarding this thing for a while - it was a proof of concept which formed the basis of a personal inventory management app which I've lost interest in, but I kept it because it performs its purpose so well. If you have a PHP enabled webserver or localhost, this script can scan a folder of LXF files and return some useful information, such as the thumbnail image, brick count, LDD version and brickset. It's probably not suitable for reading several hundred files at once, but I hope it will be interesting and useful to novices and experts alike, perhaps even serving as a basis for your own projects. See the thing here! (demo with some MOCs / official models, using a mix of internal and external image previews) Get the thing here! (link updated: 2014-12-10) CHANGELOG (full changelog is included with the readme, also viewable here) 20141210 @ 16:11 [bugfix] Added a check on the main gallery loop to supress a script error when no LXFs are found. [bugfix] Completely removed the XML parsing "function" responsible for the "file_exists()" issue - the functionality is used only once per loop, and can be done in a single line anyway.
  10. In the past couple of years, Eurobricks has been witness to the rising popularity of LDD use among members as evidenced by the significant influx of LDD MOCs throughout the site. This Index was created to provide a convenient means to search and browse all the LDD MOCs that were posted here in the forums. The LDD MOCs shall be indexed according to theme, and members could add their own or other member’s LDD creations in this Index by following the general guidelines below. General Guidelines: Only LDD MOCs with LXF files that were posted here in Eurobricks (in the appropriate subforum) are eligible to be indexed. Posting your own LDD MOC: If you have done an LDD MOC that you have posted before on the appropriate forum which you’d like to be part of this Index, post the topic link and the LXF file in this topic using the following format: LDD MOC Name by LDD Builder - LXF (insert topic link in the ‘LDD MOC Name’ and the LXF file link to ‘LXF’) If you have a new LDD MOC that you haven’t posted yet, post it first in the appropriate forum, then provide the required topic link and the LXF following the format above. [*]Posting other member’s LDD MOC: If you found an LDD MOC of another member on a certain subforum which you think needs to be added on this Index, post the topic link and the LXF file. Important Reminders: When posting your LDD MOCs in the appropriate subforum, pls. observe the image size limit of 800x600 pixels max. If you made an LDD version of someone else’s MOC and would like it to be indexed here, make sure you give credit to the original source or better if you ask permission from them. If you used an LDD MOC from this Index to make your own brick-built version and you post photos of that MOC, it is a must and proper courtesy to acknowledge the source of the design. The LDD Staff and Indexer reserve the right to refuse MOCs which do not follow the rules and are not up to EB standards. Since we are just staring this Index, feel free to comment, ask questions, and add your suggestions. Index Statistics: (to be updated)
