Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I think the rumour originated here: http://www.thebrickfan.com/possible-lego-2016-set-list/ Personally, I would prefer a deli to an arcade since a deli, being a source of food, seems more essential to a small town/city than an arcade. Also, it would presumably at least have equal focus between exterior and interior design/details whereas an arcade would presumably focus on the design/details of the games inside. Then again, I would be open to the Corner Deli being a mini Modular style set like the Bike Shop and Cafe with a true Modular release yet to be revealed. -
The Alcatraz aka Prison Island set sounds interesting. But, probably only interested in the Fire Station, Garbage Truck and Caravan at this point. I would have liked an ambulance, but not an ambulance plane!
-
I'm definitely interested in the Lakeside Lodge and the Corner Deli. I hope the Lakeside Lodge is a larger home, like the Family Home as opposed to a smaller build like Changing Seasons and the Beach Hut. And I hope the Corner Deli is more like the Bike Shop and Cafe as opposed to the significantly smaller Grocery and Toy Shop. That's if the Corner Deli isn't actually the Modular building for 2016.

Not emerging from the Dark Ages early enough to buy the earlier Modulars and the Haunted House before they were retired!
-
Hmmmmmm. First and foremost, I would establish a yearly schedule for re-releasing retired Modulars, using alternative colours schemes, with alternative minifigures, using substituted parts (if required) and, for the first few sets, with new interior details. I would also consider a similar scheme for other core themes - one annual re-release of a truly fan-demanded / classic / iconic set per year, with substituted parts if required. For other schemes, there could even be some kind of fan vote to determine the "top five" and then Lego can make its selection from those top five. Secondly, I would stop the odd "curved waist" and "cleavage" designs for female minifigures. As someone who has only recently emerged from the Dark Ages, this change strikes me as very odd and unnecessary. I don't recall seeing similar printing techniques to create fat or thin male body shapes, so why the decision to try and create an idealised female figure from a block? Thirdly, I would introduce a Greek/Roman theme drawing upon history and mythology. This is a purely selfish choice since it is amongst my most wanted. Fourthly, I would introduce a Disney theme. I imagine this theme would have an adult focus, with Ultimate Collector Series versions of Disneyland Castle, classic rides, Main Street buildings, Disney Railroad and other attractions (e.g. treehouse). Lego seem to be happy to exploit Disney with their Princess and Junior lines, but they seem to be ignoring adult fans. Disney Lego would surely be a big seller in the theme park and in retail stores. Fifthly, I would look to the past for inspiration. When I was a child, I could buy Lego sets of "townspeople", "garden accessories" and "basic bricks" in the then popular colours. Other than the CMF series, there are no townspeople packs. I don't recall seeing a garden accessories pack and the "basic bricks" packs come with such a wide assortment of colours that it is difficult to build sizeable creations. I would offer two "basic bricks" assortments - one for kids with a maximum of four colours (red, blue, white and maybe yellow)an another for adults also with a maximum of four colours (grey, brown, tan and maybe white or black). They could come with doors, windows, etc. The adults pack would also come with ... unique/odd pieces to encourage greater creativity in designing façades, etc. Sixthly, I would force all retailers to display all Lego in a single aisle. The separation of "boy Lego" and "girl Lego" is foolish. A boy should be able to buy a Friends set and a girl should be able to buy a City set without judgement or fearing that they're buying the "wrong" item. Seventh, I would expand the City theme beyond the core Fire and Police themes. There is no reason that other city buildings like banks, schools, hospitals, grocery stores, malls, restaurants, townhouses, apartments, museums, libraries, zoos, etc cannot play a role (or a larger role) in building a city. Lego can keep making Fire and Police, but there need to be buildings to burn down and places to commit crimes for those themes to have any kind of purpose. These don't all have to be "big" sets, but maybe it could be relatively easy to create a large set from multiple smaller sets. A "hospital" theme could separately release the ambulance bay, operating theatre, etc and they should be compatible to build a single set.

I would also like to see a re-release of the Haunted House, even if it came in alternative colours and with alternative minifigures. As someone else mentioned, a new "Haunted House" of comparable size an quality would be a great fit with the Scooby Doo line. Maybe towards the end of that line as a "deluxe" release with ALL of the Scooby Gang? Of course, I would also like to see Lego re-release the retired Modulars, in alternative colours, with alternative minifigures and for the first few releases, with new interior details.

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion
Agent 86 replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
IF a Lego set is released with the Disney CMF Series, I would expect it to be a Disneyland Castle. Probably Sleeping Beauty's castle from Disneyland Los Angeles. My reasoning would be that I expect a Disney CMF Series to be a broad mixture of characters and one of the only "sets" that I can think of which would be suitable to mix a broad range of Disney characters would be something tied to the theme parks since all of the characters exist and (to a limited extent) interact at the theme parks. And if it's going to be something from a theme park, then I think the castle is the most iconic image. As for it being Sleeping Beauty's castle, well it was the first and it could tie into the 60th anniversary celebrations/merchandising. I think Sleeping Beauty's castle would have playability, with a working drawbridge, throne room, etc. It wouldn't have to replicate the same "walk-through" attraction which is at the theme park itself. EDIT: I will admit to substantial bias towards a Disneyland castle as it is one of my dream Lego sets!- 4,155 replies

Wow. That is awesome. The sculpt, colours and pose are all so life like.

Very nice! Both the façade and the interior have lots of great detail. Seeing creations like this really make me wish that Lego would expand the Modular line to include a yearly 16 wide release (i.e. a mini Modular) in addition to the yearly 32 wide release.

Disney Collectible Minifigures Series 1 Discussion

I keep getting excited when I see this thread pop up! When is the earliest that people think we'll hear some official news about series 16? Would D23 in August be too early for an announcement?- 4,155 replies

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
If it's an arcade/amusement hall, I hope that it has either multiple apartments or "small offices" upstairs. Maybe offices for a lawyer, dentist, psychologist, tailor or similar solo service providers. Or possibly a public space for classes, like karate or art classes. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Please forgive my ignorance, but is there a reason that the rumours about an Amusement Hall have more weight or credibility than the earlier rumours about a Flower Shop/Greenhouse? It seem that those two rumours appeared within a week or two of each other. -
Thanks everyone! And while I'm at it, a special thanks to all you Kiwis for Lucy Lawless!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
Agent 86 replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
We all wish! I've asked before and apparently there is no real set pattern to when each Modular is announced. -
That is awesome! I would happily buy it to add to my Modular street. I really like all of he architectural details on the façade, combined with some great choices for the interior.

I don't suppose any Kiwis know of an online store which ships to Australia which might still have stock of the more recently retired Modulars (e.g. Town Hall and Grand Emporium) by any chance? Even if they were charging more than the RRP. They were both apparently available down under until February this year and the secondary market price has now skyrocketed.
-
Odd. At least some Australian retailers are expecting more stock of the Palace Cinema and the Pet Shop later this year: http://www.outerrimtradingco.com.au/content/ort-productlist.asp?name=LEGO-Exclusives Unless there has been a miscommunication?
-
If the Mystery Mansion is a success, is there a chance that Lego might release a more complex and detailed build similar to the Haunted House (10228) as part of the Scooby Doo line? The price for the Haunted House on the secondary market is insane (i.e. $500 or more), so that surely demonstrates demand for a similarly styled build?

Aussie sales! Share the news of LOCAL sales!
Agent 86 replied to Darth_Legois's topic in Buy, Sell, Trade and Finds
Does anyone have any tips for buying large, expensive (e.g. retired Modulars) Lego sets from resellers? How do you ensure, if collecting the Lego sets in person, that the contents of the box correspond to what is pictured on the box? Do you open the boxes and go through the contents? Any tips or advice would be appreciated. -
I only recently emerged from the Dark Ages and built the Palace Cinema. What did everyone do with their spotlights and crowd control barriers? I don't really like having them just randomly placed on either the sidewalk or "around" the cinema. Did anyone do anything interesting with them? I was thinking that the spotlights could go on the roof? Did anyone do that with their spotlights?

I'd like to see more buildings of all shapes and sizes and purposes, but I understand why Lego make so many vehicles. Even as child, I rarely had enough pocket money for anything except a vehicle, so I had a bunch of vehicles, but very few buildings. I had so many planes, helicopters, etc for my airport that I could barely fit them all on the runway! I hope that Lego does make more Creator buildings like the Bike Shop and Café. They could even do one which came with three different "signs" for police, fire and hospital.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Hmmmm. I didn't mean instead of an annual NEW Modular release, just a second annual release which happens to be a re-issue in addition to the NEW Modular release each year. I understand that, for whatever reason, some Lego collectors who already own ALL of the Modulars are against re-issuing the older sets, but surely if enough changes are made to the colours, mini figures and possibly even the interiors it would be acceptable?
