I like the classic style of this one. It looks like a little brother to the Skull's Eye Schooner. And those custom guns are very size-appropriate. Perhaps the stern is a bit far back, but it still looks good overall.

[MRCA] A Drastic Change of Mood
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a good back-and-forth between the two different moods, and another good way of using that civic hall build - and the framed version as a "painting" is neat. Perhaps you'll have better luck soon...- 8 replies

Beautiful island. The whole scene is excellent but the rockwork and wrecked ship especially look good. The strip of sand gives it really good depth and overall it looks like a great play piece. Good work.

[OL - Jan FB3] Eltina Market
Captain Dee replied to Brandon Stark's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat little market. The minifigs in particular look great. I think a random placement of those round tiles looks better for cobblestone than the solid coverage you have here, and some tiles or curves would definitely improve the tops of the stalls. But it's a convincing market scene nonetheless. -
[OL - FB] RNTC - New Spices for the Old World
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Cool plantation. Those pepper plants look fantastic and the whole scene turned out really well. I especially like the textures of the base, and it does look like it was cut into the jungle. Good stuff. -
[OL - FB] RNTC - Pioneers at Home
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
That's a fine home for a pioneer. Those walls look massive but then they should be. Good work with the use of plates, especially the corners, and that roof is nice. If these are being built en masse, then I should think you'd have no trouble finding residents. -
Beautiful frigate. The overall design is just excellent and the color scheme is lovely. I like those tan "window" gunports and the scale of the guns is much better than the standard pieces for a ship this size. The headrails look good for sure, but so does the stern, and the rigging, and so on... Excellent work once again.

[COR - Jan FB3] The Department of Time, Mooreton Bay
Captain Dee replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful bell tower! The overall design is fantastic. I'm studying the look, and just might incorporate some elements into a tower of my own. The color scheme is really good as well, and I like that bell - what we can see of it, anyway. I like both roof techniques, although the second design probably is more fitting for Corrington overall. But... who's to say we can't have domes? It's great to see @Bregir's concept being fleshed out a bit more. I've been wanting to do a bell tower for King' s Harbour and just haven't gotten around to it... And if a chef would just hurry up and invent pizza already I'd do the Leaning Tower too...- 12 replies

[COR-FB] Temple of Poseidon, King's Harbour
Captain Dee replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Neat temple. In my mind you can't go wrong with columns and arches, and the grooved bricks on the front look good. The inner details are nice too, as is the landscaping. And you have a diverse group of minifigs too. The roof looks pretty good in those mixed colors, although I think for a temple with such good architectural elements I'd prefer a solid color. But it's your build after all! I'm working on it...- 7 replies

[ESL-FB] Weelond Investment and Financial Exchange
Captain Dee replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful bank! Those roof pieces are perfect for this, and the overall architecture is very fitting. It displays your signature building style really well. The carriage and cobblestone look nice, and I like your use of the CMF king body for such a smartly-dressed character. Good work. "WIFE" - -
[ESL] Cotton Island, Salida Este, Ferro Azure
Captain Dee replied to Elostirion's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Only 5 non-builder comments for this fantastic build?! Beautiful plantation! The composition is amazing, the size and scale are incredible, and the number of cotton plants and water pieces is just mind-boggling. I like the irregular arrangement of the cotton rows, and the irrigation system is really nice. But I'm mostly impressed that you built a Royal-size plantation that's actually really good looking, since the nature of a plantation could lend itself to somewhat boring arrangements. Excellent work. But I have to ask: approximately how many of those trans-blue pieces did you use for the water?- 18 replies

Lovely build. That second pic really looks fantastic with the light shining on the beautiful white gatehouse. I like how it's perched atop the rocks, surrounded by the edge of the jungle. Of course the yacht looks really nice too, especially with that custom hull. And the water technique, while basic, is very convincing. Excellent way to show a character departing foreign lands. Good work.

Really nice microscale arrangement - I particularly like the jungle in the background. It looks thick and wild like a jungle should look. Adding the minifig scale scene is a great way to illustrate the main point of the story, which is certainly an interesting read. Good work.

[SR - FB2 - Jan 617 - Ship] The Bleak Angel
Captain Dee replied to kaiju's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Lovely ship! Black-brown-red look great together and this has a nice classic look, albeit much more refined, of course. She's very well armed, and I'm impressed with the details inside and out. The photos may not be perfect but they really show her off well, and I'm glad you took so many detail shots. Those wings are cool, if a bit unconventional, and the variety of the crew is nice. Good work.- 7 replies

This little garden would sure add some color to a pirate town. Are the tall yellow-topped plants corn? If so, they look a lot better than most attempts I've seen. She's got a good variety of vegetation all right. But the most important question is if she had fun playing with it. So have I... building... a garden!

The Empire of Oleon: Sign-up and Discussion
Captain Dee replied to Sebeus I's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well... The RNTC and Oleon certainly have one thing going for them... They're not the ones who set out to Kolonoscopize Mardierian @$$... I mean, can you imagine? That had to be a dirty job. I hope it paid well... -
Fantastic! This is so full of detail, and you've done a good job of concealing the big raised baseplate. Those brick-built cannons are nice. I especially like the one rusting away by the shipwreck. I like the inclusion of so many classic elements like the rope bridge and the black watchtower. And the accordion is neat too. This looks like it would be a great play piece. It's certainly a good pirate haven.

Ha! Brilliant. Excellent setup. Those starfish are perfect for this, and those legs have a nice cartoon quality. This captures the look and feel of a shootout alright. "Shakiest Gun in the West" anyone?

@Phred, sorry to bring this up again, but I'm a bit confused. Do you mean faction-owned properties earn only the 20% tax, period, or are you saying that it's just currently set up that way and this multiplier adds the normal yield to the tax, for full earnings?

Wow, nice chess set! I agree that the black king looks a little out of place, but besides that, this is fantastic. Those are some giant play pieces, for sure, and unlike so many LEGO chess sets I think I could actually keep up with what each one represents once they've been moved from their starting spots. You've designed the different pieces extremely well, and faithfully to the classic interpretations. This looks like it would be fun to play with.

Medieval - Paying Homage to the King
Captain Dee replied to PublicPlaytime's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Beautiful pics! The first few remind me tremendously of the old late 80's & early 90's catalog dioramas, when TLG actually put serious artistic effort into displaying their product. Keep it up. -
Book 2 Challenge V Cat A: The Midgardian Messenger
Captain Dee replied to Captain Braunsfeld's topic in Guilds of Historica
You see, @Captain Braunsfeld, reports of my demise were greatly exaggerated. As for your build: Wow. I love that moody atmospheric nighttime look you've created here; it's just fantastic! The simplicity of the colorscheme is beautiful, and the sky turned out well. How did you light this? The snow looks like it's glistening in the moonlight. I'm impressed.- 25 replies

Haha, funny little series - but seriously, shouldn't the pirates be victorious? This must surely be propaganda... Anyway, they got some screen time, which is always good.

@woody64, these look fantastic. I don't usually go for custom minifigs, but these are really nice. Your overall idea sounds ambitious, but I support you all the way whenever true history is involved - especially Age of Sail or Napoleonic, like these soldiers. Keep it up!

Absolutely agreed. I plainly remember the catalogs here in the USA listing several of the last Imperial Soldiers (classic bluecoats) sets for sale alongside the then-new Imperial Guards (classic redcoats). And the Guards leader was definitely identified as Governor Broadsides here in the states, not Admiral Woodhouse, as identified elsewhere. If the leader was the same man, how could they be enemies, unless he was a traitor? Sure, it was different in other countries, but to the best of my knowledge LEGO never showed them as enemies. It was always Imperials vs Pirates: an obvious good side fighting an obvious bad side. Make what you want of it; they're toys after all. As TC says, I also find the whole "sworn blood enemies" thing to be highly amusing. Tournaments of Retribution likewise always amused me, just for the ferocious zeal displayed by the two sides. Too bad the last wave of sets didn't last longer. Those were some really nice bluecoats!
