Wow, nice micro crane. It looks very good considering the limitations of such a small scale. Just looking at the counterweight it's obvious that thing is a monster! I didn't even know those cranes had the big lateral boom supports. Good work.

Unique plantation and a great story (especially in that you included outside characters very true to their known behaviors ). You have a good number of those green pieces - not perfect for depicting much of anything, but certainly tolerable - and I think you have plenty of the cacti. Add many more and I think it would be distracting. And that last pic before the spoiler is great!

[COR] A fountain for Elizabethville
Captain Dee replied to Darnok's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice fountain and surrounding flowers. The colors are obviously Corrington. I was thinking it would look better with minifigs and then... the coin toss! -
Once again capes work well for tanned hides. The scene looks busy, which is an achievement in itself. The hides hanging on the line are a nice feature. My favorite part is the cone roof. It may not be the "best" technique but if you have lots of cones it works reasonably well.

That's a really nice market stall. Accessing it all the way around is neat. And the story! Sounds like future drama...

Nice depiction. It's pretty simple but it does illustrate the process well. I like the hinged design and the white machinery really stands out. The different roof techniques are cool, though a little more texture or variation in the walls would liven it up a bit. You sure didn't waste any time once the initiative was announced!

Lego themes that we would like to happen
Captain Dee replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Two suggestions. First, replace the next Pirates line with Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island. (Call it that, instead of Pirates.) The story is a worldwide classic, there are ample characters for minifigs, and plenty of good set ideas: the inn, tavern, ship, stockade, treasure stash, plus numerous other small scenes. Who doesn't want a LEGO Long John Silver? And best of all, it isn't copyright-protected and wouldn't need to be licensed as far as I can tell. Secondly, Washington Irving's Legend of Sleepy Hollow would be a fun historic theme. Again, it's a worldwide classic, with enough set possibilities for a good wave or two. And again, I think the copyright and other protections have long since expired. Fantasy doesn't interest me in any way.- 451 replies

The Greatest Pirate Set of all times! THANKS FOR PLAYING
Captain Dee replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Pirates
The Chess set is really nice, and La Isla De Muerta is cool, but I'm voting for Shipwreck Island. My best friend had it new (along with most of the other classic sets) and we had way too much fun playing with them. That set is small but you get a cannon, chest of gold, monkey, parrot, palm tree, 2 pirates, that cool half-barrel, and the printed plate. Classic despite being small. -
[OL FB] Lavalette Microbuilds
Captain Dee replied to Captain Genaro's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
These micros are pretty good for first attempts. Both have nice details for their size. The descriptions are good too. Keep it up. -
[COR - Nov FB] Barber's Shop, Jameston
Captain Dee replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Looks nice - both the street scene and the barbershop. I enjoyed the story as well. And the barber's torso has been getting a lot of use lately, which is cool for a classic piece. I think the office building on the left would look better if it was quite a bit bigger. In this form the scene looks imbalanced, especially with that style roof being the lowest of the three. Otherwise it's a great scene.- 8 replies

Great story. And a neat scene too. The micro brig is nice and I like the lighting - it's like a museum display or something. And those faction characters... Agreed on the topknot.

[ESL-FB] Open Trestle Post Mill
Captain Dee replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Nice mill. It's a good solid design, and I particularly like the siding and angled braces at ground level. The layered green plates give you a decent change in terrain and I like all the aminals. Where do the sheep come from? I didn't know they existed. It looks like the sails hang low enough to dismantle a minifig, if someone should get too close... My favorite part of the whole build is the circular path worn in the dirt around the mill. It looks perfect. Edit: I see you have "sheep" and "goat" tagged. Rub it in, why doncha... -
Uncle Strikes Back! Good job with the sand, and I've always wondered what a tree trunk made of 2x2 rounds connected via tube would look like - now I know. The trunks are fine, but it makes the canopies look a little small. But... shouldn't Uncle be shouting at the trees? Marital advice, or hygiene, or politics or something?

[COR Nov FB] Tailor's Shop, Jameston
Captain Dee replied to Ayrlego's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Beautiful tailor/seamstress shop. Those colors look great together and the wooden elements are creative. The completed street is going to be fantastic. And of course I always fall for ladies in nice dresses. I failed to comment on most of your builds over the last few months, so I'll just collectively say "great work!" here. And I've also been wondering about your photo setup, so it's cool to see that too. I think 20x20 is a great size for these buildings - similar to official sets, big enough for good build details, but not huge and ungainly. Keep it up.- 16 replies

[OL - FB] New Directions
Captain Dee replied to Kolonialbeamter's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Interesting story and a beautiful archway to go with it. The white and grey colors look great and you have enough architectural detail to be interesting without over-doing it. I also like the gate and fence design. At first I thought that's what this is.- 14 replies

The Greatest Pirate Set of all times! THANKS FOR PLAYING
Captain Dee replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Pirates
SES. No contest. Later rounds will become "pick your favorite ship." -
Thanks for the reply. As for ship launches, yeah, I've seen it depicted both ways. But I agree - stern first is the only way to go. I hadn't seen that linked topic. That's a fantastic shipbuilding source. And while I've seen lots of model age-of-sail shipyards, I've never seen a model cannon foundry before. That's pretty neat.

Captain Dee replied to Mark of Falworth's topic in LEGO Historic Themes
Absolutely beautiful. You captured the look extremely well. It's like stepping into the game. Oh, and of course blue roofs are mandatory. I really like the wall and tower build techniques. They're quite unique. And I hear you on the trouble with taking good pics of big builds. It's good to have you back. -
B-b-b-bad! Bad to the bone! Creative ride! And certainly fitting for Halloween. That should deliver in a loud fast hurry. But that coffin hanging out back...

Lovely design, and I really like that color scheme. The columns in particular are very nice. It would look great in a bigger layout. -
BoBS CMF: Corrington Double Edition + Bonus Figure
Captain Dee replied to Captain Dee's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Well I finally got all the descriptions written out. Just when I'm trying to reduce the pic count and length of posts, I come up with all this. Probably shouldn't do another anytime soon. (It took me over 10 minutes to read it all... ) I wanted shorter descriptions but... my keypad wouldn't let me! Thanks. I felt that a few of them needed a bonus pic. About the Courtesan... well, I think the extra pic fits even if I don't personally care for her concept... I should've shown the Courier on his horse, but I couldn't find my red-eyed black steed from LotR/Hobbit... Showing other, less common aspects of Corrington society was a priority here. Oh, I doubt it. A few minifigs doesn't tip the balance of power one way or the other. Happy reading!!- 9 replies

The Greatest Pirate Set of all times! THANKS FOR PLAYING
Captain Dee replied to Itaria No Shintaku's topic in LEGO Pirates
Tough call. RBR is such a unique set, with those red hulls... But BBB seems more complete to me. -
Incredible. @Kolonialbeamter this is one of my favorites of your land-based builds. I don't think I've ever seen this done in LEGO at that scale before. The building is excellent, but the enormity of it isn't quite obvious at a glance. That would be a gigantic structure in reality. And of course the skeletal structure of the ship is beautiful. I'm really curious as to how the slipway functions. I spent quite some time trying in vain to find a good description or illustration when I did my similar scene last year. I'm especially intrigued by the big structure the ship is sitting on: would it move during launch? It appears it would slide back into the water, and the ship hull would then float off, after which the big ground-level capstans would be used to haul it back in? Or do I have it figured wrong? Any info would be greatly appreciated. She's going in stern first, the right way, correct? I made mine bow first for photographic purposes even though it just seemed terribly backward. Excellent work.
