  1. Is it possible to embed video's hosted on Bricksafe? I can't get it to work in my entry post... Is it ok just to put the link instead of embedding the video?
  2. 14. Trailer Crane (tractor not included) Functions The trailer crane has the following functions: Outriggers in X-configuration (unfolded by mini-LAs, pneumatically extended) Pneumatically lifted 3-section boom Boom extension synchronized with hook cable spool Manual rotation of upper structure Landing gear Pendular suspension All functions are manually operated. More images (originals are here: http://bricksafe.com...8-trailer-crane) Video Discussion topic The (really short) discussion topic is here: http://www.eurobrick...howtopic=116413
  3. I managed to finished the trailer... Tractor not included then Photo's are done, just waiting for the battery of the camera to recharge so I can shoot the movie (forgot to charge it before... ) I'm reasonably happy with it... Technically it doesn't work as smooth as I wanted too, but it works. The connection between the outriggers and the trailer is a bit too weak, so they can't lift the trailer. The feature that unwinds the cable when extending the boom works good as well, except that I can't fit the right gear ratios: now the spool winds/unwinds too fast, so about halfway you still need to give a bit more cable... Oh well, learn for the next time
  4. This entry is really great! I just noticed in the entry topic that it is operated by the technic control center; must be a lot of fun to play with!
  5. Hi all, I really wanted to participate in TC8 (actually, also TC7), but time is not on my side. As an attempt to make me work harder, I present here my work in progress. Hopefully I can get some constructive feedback that I can incorporate in the few hours I have left this week. I actually was working on a small-scale front axle with Ackerman geometry and thinking about what to build around it, when this contest was announced. I then got inspired by the Grove trailer crane that aminnich was also used as source for his entry. Anyway, I present here: A three-axle trailer X-shape outriggers 3-part extendable boom A tractor to pull it As you can see in the crappy photo's below, I still have a lot of work to do: Cabin for the truck Crane upper structure Figure something out to extend the wire when extending the boom (wish-list item) Finish the trailer front part Make better photo's (with so little time left I just grabbed my phone to shoot some quick shots) The photo's are cropped by Bricksafe and I don't know how to fix that. On the originals you might be able to see more details, like the full boom. Comments welcome.
  6. My progress keeps being taken apart by the perfectionist in me. I need to step it up a bit and at least finish the chassis to consider a WIP topic. Maybe making a WIP topic would maybe help to push me forward Welcome back!
  7. That looks awesome, especially how those track marks have turned out.
  8. That's massive! Very impressive how you managed to get all those functions in the arm, although I bet the large size helped a bit here. How come the axles through the turntable don't get twisted when the arm rotates? I'm a bit confused The 6 stroke engine is a nice touch, although I don't know if it could actually work like that I think the color scheme can use some work though. It looks a bit messy to me. Also, I doubt that there will be a major market for such massive off-road trucks. And you might want to spell-check the video a bit.
  9. Great movie and of course great models! The amount of detail is wonderful and the stickers really finish it. You have to look closely to see that it's LEGO. I don't recall seeing the crane before, it's huge and awesome and things.
  10. You're going way too fast, don't you have to work or something? Joking aside: that looks really impressive. With 4XL motors it's going to be the world's fastest crane. How rigid is the boom when extended? I was quite impressed by the boom of 42009 and wondering how to improve on it for my own build (which is progressing so slowly it's almost going backwards I only have about 30-45 minutes per day after work available...) I don't want to copy the 42009 boom, obviously.
  11. Absolutely. If I recall correctly, the whole visit took only 2 hours or so. There is a drive from the border of the reservation to the canyon and back, and the hike through the canyon, which is not that big. Midday would be the best time to visit considering the light conditions, so I would recommend visiting on arrival in the area and then continue to drive to the RV site.
  12. That's an awesome trip! I did a similar itinerary with my parents back in 2000 (by car, not motorhome), and it was freaking awesome. Try to visit Antelope Canyon when in the Page area. It is not as well known as the big parks (at least, it wasn't 15 years ago , but according to the Wikipedia page it had only been open for 3 years by then) and a beautiful sight:
  13. I don't know if it is intentional, but you're off to a great start for TC8
  14. I have a bunch of the sets that include them, both the old and new connectors. I love working with it, but I'm afraid I didn't store them properly during my dark ages. I'm a bit wary of buying them used, as you won't have any clue on their condition. But I agree that you'd probably get better value for money.
  15. They're not exactly cheap... I was hoping that someone had tried successfully to glue them.
  16. Sorry to bump an old topic, but since it has such a generic title I thought it would be useful to gather information under one topic. I broke a flex cable yesterday. Does anyone have any experience fixing those, e.g. with superglue? Any tips are welcome, since I really like working with the flex system and thus hope it can be fixed. I don't think LEGO customer support can help me
  17. These are awesome. I love the color scheme and how you managed to put so much functionality in them while still maintaining the aesthetics. Great work, as usual!
  18. I felt the crane was moving way too fast in the A-model. I kept overshooting my target position all the time.
  19. That is very cool. Really ingenious and seems to work really well. I'm also curious to know how accurate it is on an hourly basis.
  20. Those are the old bevel gears. 2LegoOrNot2Lego uses them in his trucks, as you can see in the photos of a build here, for exactly this reason: they're not radially symmetric, which allows you to align them at 90 degrees. They're a bit weak though, but for just steering it should be sufficient if you brace them properly.
  21. I didn't say you have to ask for permission. (I don't now if "you" in the sentence was addressed directly to me or not though.) My ethics are that it is nice to give credit where it is due. For example (the same one I used before), I use a gearbox design that I saw on Sariel's website, and I post photo's of my MOC here, in a community I know Sariel is a member of. So I give credit to him, that my gearbox was from his website. In fact, Sariel, on his website, acknowledges Erik Leppen for coming up with the gear configuration, which is not trivial to come up with. Also nice of him to do so. Is it necessary? No. Is there someone somewhere who has come up with the same gearbox independently? Very likely. But that doesn't change where I got my inspiration from. As I said: I don't think it is necessary that you have to give credit for every combinations of pins and gears and whatnots. As others have pointed out, we build on the common knowledge and skills of the greater community. The whole idea of sharing our works is to further the community with new techniques and ideas. But that doesn't mean, in my opinion, that you shouldn't give some credit if someone comes up a something really new and you get inspired by it. If for nothing else, wouldn't you feel flattered if people tell you they got inspired by your work? Everybody has an ego. +1
  22. Oh, more pictures here Nice work! As I said in the other topic, without the big side skirts it looks better, in my opinion. How many parts are in this trailer? I see tons and tons of plates and tiles...
  23. I think it looks much better without the side skirts. The gap between the wheels and the trailer body is less obvious this way. And the color scheme is just awesome
  24. So many great submissions. I wanted to participate, and got well onderway with my build, but then got distracted by moving house and an Arocs passing by. I couldn't finish. Anyway, here's my vote: 15: 10 13: 6 1: 4 18: 3 20: 2 16: 1
