  1. The messengers fare had stopped at this small roadside tavern to let the horses rest, and the men get their stomachs filled. His nails hurting, his fingers were numb, and his hands were shaking. He rubbed them together and tried to warm them with his breath. Experience told him that it hurt more, but the pain subsided quicker. He held the letter up against the lantern in his small corner cubicle at the inn. Elaborately written on it was the words "To be delivered Monsignore Guy K Wyndzon of the Merchant's Colonial Trade Company" It had expensive paper, thin and soft to the touch. He turned it around. Sealed in white wax with a sign in the shape of a glove or hand. His eyes fixated on the intricate design on the stamped wax. The coachman chugged down the last slump of his stale ale at the bar "Achh!, one more, before we have to get goin. We must reach the city before nightfall", he bellowed with his hoarse voice to make sure his men was ready. There was an abrupt commotion from the corner cubicle. "Oh no! What have I done..." The messenger stared at the scorched letter, his face twisted in anguish. The edge was completely burnt away on one side. Sweat streaming down his face and neck, he slowly pulled the letter sideways out of its envelope. He could read most of it, but it started to fall apart. He gently placed it on the desk and rummaged his sack until he found his writing pouch. "I have to create a new copy, quickly, and pretend nothing happened. Yes, that's it. I will not get away with any more mishaps." He skimmed the letter, and with tongue in cheek, and sometimes between his front teeth, started to write in his finest lettering: "To the Honorable monsignore Guy K. Wyndzon of De Merchantes Coloniale Trade Companie It is with great concern I write you, on behalf of the White Glove Order. Our man in Bardo has brought to our attention the current state of affairs in Bardo. The people are" Atchoo! The messenger looked at the pile of dust, formerly known as the letter. His face blank. "No need to panic. Luckily I have a good memory", he tried to console himself. "The people are"... "at unrest. The food crops are not yielding much this year, and they are growing impatient with the lack of services. Diseases are spreading, miscarriages and accidents have taken a great toll on the tally. Many fear the island will be desolate if left in its current state. We can not stand idly by while people are suffering, and the industry on the island wither away. We must therefore ask the MCTCs approval to let us help stabilizing the area. We ask only that the MCTC appoints a man we trust utterly, Colonel Oystrigde, in command of local matters. He is a man of stature and with great rapport among his men and in the regions where he served. In return the White Glove Order will assist with whatever means are at our disposal, and pull the strings we can to provide an educated labor force." The messenger came to a halt. What was that last part? And he didn't read the signature. "Well, I got the most of it. It will have to do", he thought, and signed the letter the way he used to sign his letters home: "Hugs and Kisses to thee, your darling forever"
  2. I find myself appreciating these microbuilds very much. Makes me want to try some microbuilds myself.
  3. Yes! This is my cup of tea (with rum). Dark red is always nice. You make the dark and light greys work together. Vats, kettle and fireplace is prima. You obviosly now the process ;) The only minor thing you perhaps could have changed is having the finished barrels lie down, and either have a tap in them or add a few bottles. Deserves approvals.
  4. Great atmosphere. The conversion with the storefront and the bricked up window is a nice touch. I can learn from your color scheme. You do a nice job with breaking up the all the light tan. And I have to get me a lot of those round 2x2 to make those kind of roads. They add to any city scene.
  5. Already mentioned, but that hairbrush= And the snail
  6. In the scorecard? According to my calculations I should have only 60 total, but 14 dbs/month.Edit: Actually that's 19 a month, because of the textile monopoly.
  7. Since merchant fleets can also capture ships, I don't see much point in predator cruises. Why go for 1 zone, when it seems you can do just as well as escort for traders? Do predator runs get more chances/attempts? If not more zones is better. You can charge for escort service, ...or so I've heard.
  8. Welcome, Alejandro de la Calle!
  9. Yeah, I see it is not easy. I will inform you whenever I licence a ship and when something happens to my ships. It would be nice if people would inform if they are going to licence the ship the same month they are posting FBs. It would hopefully make your day easier :)Seeing the amount of work, unknown areas and obstacles that you encounter, I think you deserve a salary paid by all the factions, for acting as an universal civil servant notary.
  10. If you have to licence a captured ship, you have gained nothing. Warships, for instance, does not have cargo to capture. The captured ships have only been listed as unlicenced in the ship index. The work with the index is great, and I appreciate that someone takes the work with updating it. However, how ships are first listed can not dictate the rules. The game masters have said nothing on the matter that I know of. So it is a matter of clarification what the initial rules are. It would be easier for Maxim to keep track if there are clear guidelines. The game is still new, and we will encounter lots of things that have not been thought of, or revealed yet. My opinion of what might be fair (capturing a ship is a reward for winning a battle and a gain after all), and add to the autenticity is that a repair cost has to be paid before it can be used.
  11. When ships are captured, do they not count as licenced? Since it is considered a prize?
  12. There is a limit on 3 licences a month in the same place. 2 if you build in 2 different places. There was a limit to how many plantations each settlement can have, but the first month it was disregarded. I don't know if, and when they will make a limit on it again, and what that limit would be.
  13. I don't have a problem with the flying corsair being licenced, especially since Maxim offers to forego the FB DBs for it. It is made in advance, but it is made specifically for BoBs purpose, and it would cost the same to licence it. As I see it, it is an expression of enthusiasm that led him to build and post it so early. It is a fine ship as well, that would add some spice to the brick seas. That being said, I also see the challenges with allowing it. It is a grey zone, but it is a nice shade of grey.
  14. Where can we see what we have submitted? I realize that I may have forgot the free build form, at least on my last few builds, only posting in the free build thread. So many forms, so bad memory :/
  15. Question about parity and settlement sizes. Does the number reflect how many buildings of each it needs or the total levels? In the example for a large city it needs eight of each in the four categories (artisan, commerce, residence and factory). Would that mean it needs 8 different factories regardless of size, or does each size increase count against parity as well? (Small=1, medium=2, large=3, royal=4) If it needs to be separate buildings it is clearly much better to build only small properties until the city is big enough...
  16. Hahah, your presentation rocks. Wait, there are no rocks in it... But there is sand, which are like very small rocks, even if they don't float. I got an overwhelming Monthy Python vibe from it . Although "Motorboat" gives no impression of being chaste.
  17. Yeah, but you can save yourself 20db if you use your free licence for anything else than a residential property (worth 25db), and instead pay the 5db it cost for the residence.
  18. The decay is beautiful. If you have a wife, she would surely be sold on this idyllic opportunity. The roof and the offset works well. The whole house in general. I can't see anything to improve. Mission accomplished.
  19. Nice with some colors. Using that much of the space for the outside, makes it easier to see all the stuff going on. That way of building just the facade would enable me to add an extra street later on in my layout.
  20. Sleek lines
  21. Oh, I have just loosely thought of the whole era when building. I did not know we were following a sort of timeline. The big questions then is: how fast does time go? And how do we know that we get towards the end of the era? Does it end at some time, planned as an ongoing game, or go in cycles? I will probably be in the wrong part of the age most of the time. Architectural eras have an approximate span, but there are builds before and later that exhibits some of the traits of the different styles. I am not schooled in architectural history either, so I may often miss on that as well. I must just excuse beforehand, and say that I will probably follow my plan of building up a colonial/early industrial settlement as an installation (Think Tropico).
  22. It does not look like your lack of parts hinder you in conveying your story. You've added a lot of flair to your story. The white tiled roof is effective. The first shot has depth and is dramatic. Good choice of token piece. The only thing I found strange is that the pirates was suddenly gone. What happened? Did they flee? Were they slain? Apart from that, a great first MOC and it seems we are in for an adventurous story.
  23. Nice atmosphere. Or, more correct, dreary atmosphere. I can imagine rain pouring down. The color and brick choices reinforces the feeling of wet, slippery stone.
  24. Sparhawk: That's a bad bad (tight swear filter on EB) sigfig. Looking forward to read his story.
  25. Part of the fun is to see the progress. I have built two more ships that I have not posted yet. And I am more satisfied every time. But, I must admit I've been starting from prefab hulls. Mostly because I don't have that many slopes yet. One piece thing at a time (reminds me of a Johnny Cash song)
