  1. Great! Were these droids at Legoland Star Wars Days this year? I think I saw them there. Andy D
  2. I really like your buildings! But I would like to see photos as well, as they are easier to examine and you have as much time as you need without trying to pause a video just right. Andy D
  3. Very nice! Stop motion builds are always fun to watch. Does this require one photo (or more) per piece placed. Can you post a photo of your recording setup? Andy D
  4. Questions for those who make instructions... Do you make instructions before you build? Or as you build? Or after you build? What do you use to make instructions? I find LDD very difficult and it lacks the tactile feel of real bricks. Thanks, Andy D
  5. Late to the party, again. I am currently working on a 42043. I did not get it earlier because I'm not a fan of pneumatics, so far this set is great, I was mistaken yo not get it earlier. Anyway, have any of you been happily been building one of Marcus's wonderful creations and discovered that even though the sub-module is fun and interesting, but... You just can't figure out where he's going. You keep building and all of a sudden you can get a glimpse of what's happening. Amazing! You keep building and from a pile of miscellaneous parts a wonderful model arises! This is why I build and rebuild his marvelous creations, there is always a sense of adventure and amazement! Andy D
  6. I have rebuilt the 42009 three times. Built The A model, built the B model then rebuilt the A model. I know I will take the A model apart again to rebuild the B model. I recently started the 42043 and it has such interesting techniques that I know I will take apart and rebuild. I just ordered another copy of the 42042 to rebuild (parts too scattered or used in other things to rebuild from inventory). As to why I rebuild these sets, it is for 3 reasons... 1. The first time building was very enjoyable, like a good book that you just did not want to end, so you read it again. 2. To me LEGO is all about building, not play or shelf sitting. 3. I rebuild to learn more. The sets I mentioned have some fantastic building techniques and I learn best through repetition. The more I build the more I realize I do not know. I have desires to build several things, but at present I do not feel I have the skills. I want to gain design skills. Andy D
  7. The Road Builder and the Wheel are my favorites. Keep up the good work! Andy D
  8. I have a new in factory sealed box, 10194 Emerald Night. I will trade for a 8258 Crane Truck, new in factory sealed box. I have looked on eBay, Amazon and Bricklink and the asking price is very close for both items. This is for a trade only and only in the USA. Each of will pay shipping charges (UPS with tracking). This only for a trade for the 8258. If you want the Emerald Night but do not have a Crane Truck, you can order from Amazon and have it shipped to me (with tracking). Thanks, Andy D
  9. I'm going to start sorting / assembling today! Andy D
  10. I like it! I love whimsy, and this is very whimsical. Andy D
  11. Amazon must be having a hard time unloading these. I got 2 one at the $188 and one at the $174. Andy d
  12. Very nice! Very compact and dense build? How long is it. It appears fairly small. Andy D
  13. Very god shifter! Simple and effective, does what it is supposed to do. The more I look at this, the more I think something like this could solve a problem I have with a steering idea I have. I need to have the servo turn the wheels right or left and leave them there until I tell the servo to turn straight, then turn the other direction. Thanks for sharing... Andy D
  14. Very interesting and fun report, I almost felt like I was there. Thanks so much for sharing this experience with us! Andy D
  15. Wow! Thanks for the reply, much appreciated, I am afraid to get involved in GBC, for I fear it is going to be obsessive and expensive. Too late, I'm already planning, there goes the budget! Thanks, Andy D
  16. For me 2016 is looking good! The first half Technic sets were great (for 1st half sets) and the 2nd half sets (minus the Porsche) look great. The modular bank looks great (haven't got it yet). Yeah, some of the better sets are rather pricey (to be expected). Some of he creator sets look great, both the 3 in 1 and Expert. Not a Star Wars collector, not a Super Heros collector, so I can't comment. But for me, Technic, Modular Buildimgs and Winter Village (looking for a new set in WV) are looking good. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
  17. This is very nice! Just like what I am hunting for... A self contained GBC module. Where can I find the instructions for this one? Anybody recommend any other self contained (and not too large) GBC modules. Thanks, Andy D
  18. I have operated a garden tractor <VBG> and a Go-Cart and I watched a friend use a backhoe to dig a trench for me, and I dodged a fork lift in a warehouse store and a factory where I worked many, many years ago. Does ant of that count? Andy D
  19. You are right, sort-of. The set was advertised to have a functioning transmission and other functional elements, that is why I was initially interested. I don't think the price is the only thing. For me it is the precieved value for money spent. I just spent over $300 on 2 42043 and I perceive it a good value. I will spend over $500 on the rest of the 2H sets and I perceive them to be a good value for money spent. I am not sure that the cost is the reason for many. I think it is the disappointment of value received for cost. Just MHO, YMMV Andy D
  20. Well, I did again. I disassembled the 42009 B and reassembled the 42009 A. It was really enjoyable, as much fun as the first time. On build day 1 I dissassembled the 42009 B and sorted to prepare to build. Took me 2 hours 35 minutes. Over 10 build days and a total of 17 hours I had the 42009 A reassembled (again). It was even more enjoyable the second time and I tried to really examine what I was doing and I think I learned more this time. Oh, yeah, over the 10 build days I recorded the time spent and took photos of each day's results... Added to the fun, I think I may do that more often. Well, my wife can't say I don't get my money's worth out of my big sets. Looking back at the 42009B, I think I like it better than the 42009 A, so I will (in a month or so) disassemble the 42009 A and reassemble the 42009 B. Now I think I will assemble my newly purchased 42043. But first, I need to straighten up my build space. I think I am learning that I really appreciate large construction type Technic sets with lots of functions. I must avoid the "shelf sitters". Andy D
  21. Me too! Except for that orange thing. @Sariel -- can we have a pre review, review? Or maybe just some impressions on the Volvo, CLAAS and BWE. Andy D
  22. I hope you changed your mind. I was just trying for a laugh, not a "flame war". I will be more careful in the future to try to make sure my intent is clear. I did not intend any harm, just a little fun. I hope this thread has not left any with a negative opinion of me. Andy D
  23. Sariel... Thank you for a detailed and honest review. The hype leading up to the release had me almost convinced that I must have the Porsche, but your review and Jim's review convinced me otherwise. This will be a great $175 parts pack, when that happens I will buy it as a parts pack, not expecting a great Technic set. August is just around the corner, I am looking forward to those sets, I will likely buy all three (now that I'm not buying the Porsche). I am one of the Technic fans that prefers function over form. Andy D
  24. After 3 or 4 days of the 42043 mocking me on Amazon for $174 and change, I decided to order a second one. The $174 was just too good to pass up for a great parts pack. Andy D
  25. Again, thanks Jim for the "Ultimate" review. Up until I read the reviews and saw Sariel's video the Porsche was a purchase soon (maybe not day one). After looking at it and seeing most of the functions were hidden, and now don't actually work right. I have decided (again) to not give LEGO my money for this set. Instead I just ordered a second AROCS 42043. So LEGO still gets my money, just not as much. Andy D
