For most of us (me included) will never recover the monetary value of their LEGO. I think you have to (as roppie 11 said), it is all about fun per piece. I look at LEGO as fun per piece. With the number of pieces most of us have... Wow! We must be having "Tons of fun", I know I am! Andy D

You Timelapse video looks very nice! Are you still using iStopmotion? What are you using for a camera? Thanks for sharing this, Andy D

Strange that you mention art supplies. I look at LEGO pieces as the ultimate reuseable art supply. Andy D

I just finished the 42043 B model yesterday. As I mentioned I was only intrested to the functions so I only built the trailer. The gearbox was not as interesting as some, but OK. The functions are interesting. I like the linear actuator landing gear, the crane rotation is interesting, though limited by pneumatic hoses, but because I eliminated one pneumatic cylinder I only have 6 sets of hoses instead of 8, so the crane rotation works much better. My favorite function is the very, very clever outriggers! I will use them again! On some MOC! The only thing is I would like the outriggers better if they weren't so fast, I will gear them down when I re-use them. The pneumatics continue to be my least favorite Technic function. I am really not a fan of their very fast collapse, and they really (in my limited experience) do not hold position very well, except when powered, and it is the when powered that causes another problem. After they reach full travel (in or out) it seems that the pressure starts to build and the motor starts to labor. Maybe an air reseviour would help. Pump up the reseviour then just use the stored pressure. I know that LEGO did produce a tank, but it is not included with any modern pneumatics set that I have seen. So without the tank, what is the best solution to the pressure build up? Andy D P.s. Next build an all grey 42009B

Good luck selling that to your wife or husband or friends or family! I couldn't even sell my idea. Andy D

Good luck with your new storag solution! Be sure to let us know your initial thoughts (once organized) and later after you have used it for awhile. Photos of your solution would be nice as well. Andy D

I can't believe he amount of serious conversation this little thread has caused. I posted this originally just for fun, as I am always trying to find something humerous to kid my wife with. My concept of free LEGE just made her roll her eyes. I think JWG3000 was the only one to "get" the joke. Just trying to lighten the day, Andy D

[MOC] Telehandler
Andy D replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yeah, that does make sense, after all, Blakbird could wind up with some questionable stuff on his shelf (though I would be surprised). I noticed that Lipko's Telehandler is now in the HOF and well deserved. I dl'ed the lxf and for some reason it took my computer (a late 2013 MB Pro with a healthy CPU and plenty of RAM) overnight to generate the building guide. Huge, 803 steps and 2242 parts. Now to collect the parts and build this marvelous Telehandler. I have a feeling this going to be quite a project. Thanks again to Lipko for building this and providing the lxf! Andy D All I can say is ha, ha, ha. This is great, very humorous. If everything in the HOF was on your shelf, that would be one big shelf! It would be the HOF of shelves ;) ;) Andy D I've got to get off of this thread and back to building! -
Please put your coffee down, reading this post may cause spewing on your computer from laughter! Really, if you want free LEGO there is something you must do, that is to assemble each set multiple times, the more times you assemble, disassemble, assmble the lower the cost. If you buy a set and leave it in the box or assemble it one time... You pay full price. If you assemble then disassemble and reassemble 2 times, you pay half price. If you assemble, disassemble 4 times you are starting to get the price down real good. But, if you want free LEGO you must assemble and disassemble 8 times before putting the pieces into your MOC inventory. I know it is a lot of work, but free stuff requires a lot of work! I have very little free LEGO (none) in fact some still in the box for years, no time, to assemble the first time, I have lots of sets that were just bought for parts, maybe assembled once, then quickly disassembled and put into my inventory. So my much of my LEGO likely costs more than full price. Tongue back in cheek... Andy D

[MOC] Telehandler
Andy D replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well I hope so! This is one of the conditions for a MOC to be in the HOF, and several of us believe this MOC should be in the HOF. Just build it, move a couple of your other MOCs aside and place it in the opened space. Andy D -
If you want free LEGO you cannot leave them assembled. You must reuse the parts in order to get the cost per use down. Andy D If you have parts you do not reuse, they are just dragging the cost of your LEGO up. I like the usfulness factor for parts. Andy D

Over the years there has been much discussion on the cost of LEGO. Many look at a LEGO set and determine the real cost or worth by the number of pieces and the total cost of the set and then come up with a price per piece. If the price per piece is around 10 cents it is an OK buy. If the PPP (Price Per Piece) is less than 10 cents per piece then it is considered a good deal. If the PPP is greater than 10 cents per piece it is frowned upon as being too expensive. A couple of years ago I did a study on LEGO as a cost per gram and came up wit a number, but when I looked further at it, it was not that far off from the PPP we had been using. Lately I have been looking at LEGO pieces as cost per use. For example I recently assembled a Mobile Crane MK II which cost me about $213 or about 8 cents PPP. Pretty good. But then I disassembled it and assembled the B model. Using the same parts, the cost per use is now 4 cents per piece. Hmmm…. Pretty good! Then I disassembled it again and re-assembeled the A model, at brought the cost per use down to about 2.6 cents per piece. Now if I keep doing this pretty soon the cost per use is going to be less than 1 cents per piece. Now that’s pretty good, you can’t buy anything for 1 cent today, it is almost like free. What do most of us do with our pennies? So I now submit that LEGO is FREE! Who could ask for a less expensive hobby. I tired to sell my wife on this, but she looked at me like she thought I was nuts or something, after all she has seem me spend a couple of hundred at a crack at the LEGO store and online. But I still say, in a certain sense… LEGO is FREE! Good luck convincing your wives, spouses, family and friends with this new revelation, but, it does sound good in theory. Just my thoughts for the day, Andy D

I agree, with the clues presented and Blakbird's comment (humble brag) this is a logical conclusion. Now how long will it take for jim to confirm or deny. Andy D -

Hmmm... Maybe it will be a surprise reviewer we have not seen yet? Let's see, East Coast, West Coast? Middle of the country, where oh, where? More thought and research required. I think this could be a humble clue... Who is going yo be the first to actually name names? Andy D -
Well, I guess nobody wants this trade. I still want one of these sets, so maybe I need to use eBay. Any idea what price I should ask for the 10194 Emerald Night to get what I the $$'s I need to get one of the sets I want from the proceeds? I have never sold on eBay before, so I am not sure what to expect. Any help much appreciated. Thanks, Andy D

Disassembly and Pin Distribution
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Seems this thread suddenly took a turn to mostly pins, but there were other parts involved... Beams, axels, gears and smaller connecting pieces. Well I got all those put away yesterday, and started disassembly of my 42043 AROCS. Hopefully later in the week I will be able to start assemble of the B model. Andy D -

I have a feeling it is someone from the states that we have seen before. He did great reviews, received high praise from Jim, great photos and detailed descriptions. He is mostly a great reviewer! Well that's my guess. Andy D -
I also feel the reasons for NOT having like buttons is still valid. I would hate to see EB become like Facebook. We are talking less and less and people are just clicking buttons more and more. We need to encourage more communication, not less. Like buttons just encourage less communication. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
