42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator
Andy D replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@jim. It appears that you are getting the CLAAS to review. Are you also getting a BWE? I am really looking forward to a BWE review and I hope you and Sariel will be reviewing it. Andy D -
Disassembly and Pin Distribution
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
it seems that we all have different problems with our pins... While dr_spock is running dangerously low, mine just seem to keep multiplying. It seems like I turn of the lights and when i look again there are more (maybe my pins got together with some rabbits) Anyway, since dr_spock posted his photo of dangerously low pins, here is mine of well... Pins by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr The Plano container on the right is my working storage and the Sterelite container on the left is my extra storage, but it is getting full too. I did a weighing and some calculations and i believe there are close to 5800 assorted pins here. Andy D -
[MOC] Telehandler
Andy D replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This thread has kind of died off. I am still hoping for the video and LDD file if they are going to be produced. No pressure, I am just trying to show that I am still interested in this telehandler and I am still hoping for more documentation to help me build this telehandler or one close to the form and function of this one. Maybe it's pi(e) that you like? (31415 or 3.1415)

Disassembly and Pin Distribution
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I just thought of something odd. On my build desk is about 5600 parts. In the first photo, in the background is the 42009 and the 42043 which contain a total of about 5400 parts. The 42009 is going to be disassembled, then back in the box and I am going to build the 42043 B model, the it is going into inventory. Andy D -
I have a new in factory sealed box, 10194 Emerald Night. I will trade for a 42009 Mobile Crane MK II, new in factory sealed box. I have looked on eBay, Amazon and Bricklink and the asking price for the 10194 is greater than for the 42009, so it's a good deal if you have a 42009 and want a 10194. I recently posted this trade for an 8258 Crane Truck, new in sealed box and that offer still stands. I will trade the 10194 for either the Crane Truck or the Mobile Crane MK II. This is for USA trades only and we each pay our shipping with insurance and tracking. Andy D

Disassembly and Pin Distribution
Andy D replied to Andy D's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The pins are easy to sort! I have them already sorted. But... all those other parts, the beams, lift arms, panels, gears, axels and panels. Lots of sorting to even begin storing. Then when I want to build something, I have to reverse the process... Pull parts. LEGO really is a hobby almost more about sorting than building sometimes. Andy D -

My latest Technic project. Most times a Technic project is the assembly of a new set, or a new MOC or new MOD. This week it was the disassembly of Five (5) sets. They were the 42008, 42037, 42039B, 42050A and 42050B, to this I added the already disassembled 42042. Why did I disassemble all these sets? Well, I just do not have room to keep every set I own on display, some have to be disassembled to go into inventory or to go back into their box to be assembled again later. Some sets I buy knowing that they are as parts packs, because they have some interesting parts or look like they may be fun to assemble once to see what I can learn. In these sets there are approximately 5600 parts of which many are pins. I weighed and counted the assorted pins and I cam up with over 1800 pins from six (6) sets (the 5 disassembled this week added to the 42042 previously disassembled). Wow! one in every three (1/3) of the parts in most sets are pins. Well, we need pins, don’t we? The largest category of pins at over 760 are (you guessed it) the ever present 2l black pin. Next at about 400 is the 3l blue pin. Other miscellaneous pins make up the remainder of the 1800 pins. What does 6 sets disassembled, pre-sorted into bins look like? I’m glad you asked, I just happen to have some photos… DIsassembly by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr DIsassembly by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr DIsassembly by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr DIsassembly by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr DIsassembly by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr If you notice, there are two (2) gearboxes not disassembled. They are from the 42008 and the 42042. I want to study these gearboxes to learn what I can learn from them about distribution gearboxes. Anyway, I hope you enjoyed, Andy D

Your buyer sounds like someone not accustomed to Bricklink. I think you should email your buyer and try to peacefully try to resolve the issue. I believe your buyer may feel that all online presences should be able to operate at the speed of Amazon. The reality is that not many online businesses can operate at that speed. Bricklink particularly since the buyer must first wait for an invoice so that shipping is included in the cost. Like many Bricklink users, I realize that shipping can be expensive and slow, but if the buyer is in a rush they can pay for an expensive overnight shipping. I also feel that removing the personal link could help resolve this peacefully. Good luck! Andy D

[MOC] Telehandler
Andy D replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is a very good looking, interesting, compact and very functional telehandler. I am just wondering why it has not been "Frontpaged". Just MHO, YMMV Andy D -
I just finished the 42043 -A. For the most part it as a fun build, however for me, not as innovative as the 42009 - A or B or the 42042 - A. This model took me about 18 hours over 12 build days (you can't say I don't get my money's worth out of LEGO) about $11 per hour or $17 per day. Maybe this is a better way to cost out LEGO instead of price per piece. I plan to build the B model as well, so cost per hour and per day will go down :) The build was enjoyable and the functions work as advertised, but I do not believe the pneumatic functions work as well as they should, but that's just me, I like linear actuators more than pneumatics, maybe there is a better place for pneumatics. The gearbox was interesting, but hard to use as you have to go from one side of the truck to the other to use different functions. I wish more gearboxes were like the one on the 42042 where the functions are accessed and reversed at the gearbox, instead of having to go from gearbox to battery box to reverse functions. Overall I really enjoyed the build, but not as much as the 42009 or 42042. I guess my next build will be the 42043 - B. At this time I only plan to build the trailer as that is what looks most interesting to me. But maybe I should build the cab to get he cost per hour for this set down ;) ;) Andy D

If you could only keep one MOC/set, what would it be?
Andy D replied to Diesel Lover's topic in General LEGO Discussion
Here is the original question. It did not specify that I had to have it yet. I will have it! If the 42055 is not allowed, then a second choice would be the 42009. I have put it together 3 times (twice A model, once B model) and it has lots of great useful parts. SO if I cannot have the 42055, then the 42009. Andy D -

[MOC] Telehandler
Andy D replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
This is one outstanding telehandler! I agree with the others, this is one of (if not the) best telehandlers around. I also think HOF is in order. I have wanted to build such a telehandler (along with everyone else here). Looking forward to video, more photos and explanation. Thanks for sharing this! Andy D -
