  1. @Jim. Thanks for an "Ultimate" review! Well done both the text and awesome photos. I do agree that this is one awesome "Display Model" and a great looking super car. But I'm not convinced that it is for me. I really like more Technic functions and the star (and almost the only one) is the gearbox, which doesn't look like it can be seen very well (if at all) and the shifting looks like it will be hard to accomplish with a completed model. Awesome super car! But I'm not sure it is for me. Looking forward to the BWE, CLAAS and Volvo. Instead of the Porsche, I may buy 2 BWE. Andy D
  2. Wow! Has this thread taken a turn. I was just trying to say that a B - model could become anything (with imagination) but my imagination went only as far as the A - model. I guess I'm just not funny. But some of you are still having a good time with this thread, so all was not lost... After all, LEGO is all about fun. Andy D
  3. Considering what has happened in the past, If we ignore the 1 month then I believe the "more or less" is about as accurate as Jim can get right now. Close? Andy D
  4. Congratulations Rider Raider! I am glad you decided to join the ranks of the OTD members. We have many things going for us, among them, we've been around long enough to understand a few things. Anybody else want to stand up and be badged. All you have to do is be over 50 and request a badge (like Rider Raider did) and 'poof' you will be badged! Looking forward to more members, Andy D
  5. Today, I was considering the 42043. I looked it up on Amazon, it was $199 USD. I read Jim's review, looked at Sariel's video, came back to Amazon 30 or 40 minutes later and the price dropped to $188.54 USD, so I snapped it up. I believe there are a few more at this price, but you gotta hurry. Good luck! IHTH, Andy D
  6. Right now the connection through the turntable for the 42042 drives the tracks, I believe the drive could be used for the outriggers on the 42009. I think I will try to use the superstructure rotation and then see how I can use the other 2 functions. I think I will complete the 42009, then try to adapt the 42042 superstructure to the 42009. Thanks, Andy D
  7. Yep, that as it! I remembered wrongly that there was more information. Thanks, Andy D
  8. As much as I enjoy the artwork on the boxes, I just do not have room. Storing built, unbuilt sets and parts is more of a priority for me. I have began to think that I will keep the boxes until the set is completely built. Then if the build was more enjoyable than others I will keep the box to store the set in so it will be all together for when I want to rebuild it. For sets that I am sure I will not want to rebuild, I will just put the parts in my inventory. Andy D
  9. I remember a post a couple of months ago about mounting the superstructure of the 42042 on the base of the 42009. I am in the process of rebuilding the 42009 (fun the first time, still fun the second time) and seeing what can be done with the superstructure and gearbox from the 42042 sounds interesting. Any help finding this thread or post much appreciated. Andy D
  10. Davee gave a great description. For me LEGO is the ultimate reuseable 3D Art material. It can be almost anything once, then taken apart and be almost anything again and again. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
  11. I may be in the minority here, but I would like to see the 8432 and 8462 done in modern parts. Not so much the 8417, because I am not much a fan of motorcycles. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
  12. This is really outstanding! It would be great even. If it did not function, but the function just doubles it. That turbine and gearing is just fantastic. The Rat Rod look is right on. Thanks for sharing this, Andy D
  13. Just for fun. The imagination gag just didn't seem to gain legs. Sorry if it bothered you. Andy D P.s. Mods feel free to do with this thread as you please, I was just hoping for a laugh.
  14. Nothing for next month. But for October I plan to purchase the Porsche, Bucket Wheel Excavator, the CLAAS Tractor, the Modular Bank and a number of Creator 3 in 1 as donations for the Christmas fund for my church. Looks like my annual purchases will all take place in October. Andy D
  15. All the stickers look real good! I might even use them. Where does sticker number 6 go? It looks too large to me, unless it really makes a difference I am not sure I would use it. Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
  16. Outstanding!! So compact and so full of functions. I really like the steering and your distribution gearbox. Are you going to publish instructions on Rebrickable? I would buy them! Thanks for sharing, Andy D
  17. This morining I had a 42009B Reacher Stacker on my build desk. A great model! Build 42009A by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr This afternoon I have a plie of sorted and organized LEGO Bricks and pieces. Build 42009A by MyPlasticBricks, on Flickr They can be anything I can imagine. Right now I am imagineing a 42009 A Mobile Crane MK II. So tommorrow I will start that. You just have to use your imagination, of course an instruction book doesn't hurt. Andy D
  18. Hi rulesfbio. Welcome to EB, good to see another member from So. Cal. I am from the inland area near Ontario. Enjoy, Andy D
  19. Welcome Otterpapa! How far South in So Cal? San Diego or LA? Inland or coastal? I am inland close to Ontario, CA. I started building more in 2008 after my son got married an moved on. Now he and his wife and I build on Christmas morning. I build as often as possible. I am mostly interested in Technic, Modular buildings, Winter Village and Halloween related. Andy D
  20. Ok, ok, I get it... I was wrong. Again.... Sorry. I am still anxiously awaiting the review. I will most likely get this set. Right now I plan to build it, enjoy it for awhile, then disassemble, put back in the box so I can enjoy the build all over again later. I think this is what I am going to do with some of my more enjoyable builds (save in original box) instead of just putting the parts in my inventory. Andy D
  21. I just found out about this. This Saturday and Sunday, May 28 and 29 Billy Dee Williams will be doing some Star Wars readings. (Link below) There will also be some LEGO Star Wars MOCs at the library right next to the Lewis Family Playhouse. I understand some folks from local LUGs (LUGoLA and OCLUG) will also be there. I will be there, if anyone close to Rancho Cucamonga CA has time... See you there. Andy D http://www.victoriagardensie.com/event/star-wars-reads/2145470655/
  22. This is where I was going. I just wanted to see if anyone had a better, or different idea. Thanks, Andy D
  23. Guess I was wrong... Sorry... Andy D
  24. In the last few months I have built the 42009 A, took it apart and built the 42009 B. Both great builds. Then I built the 42008 A, fun, but it was no 42009 A or B. I had a second 42039, so I built the B model. I look at my stack (build queue) and most of the sets are fairly small. I am looking for a challenging build, so... I got to thinking, how about a re-build of the 42009 A? Hmmm.... Tear the 42009 B apart and chase parts for the A model. Which brings me to my question... What would you do to gather the parts (out of your inventory) Take the 42009 B apart, keep the parts available for the build, then just gather the parts per steps to build the A model? Or Get the parts list for the 42009 and find all of them from your inventory, then build? Anybody faced a similar decision? What did you do? What do you think would be easiest? Thanks, Andy D
  25. I just finished building the B model yesterday. It was an interesting, satisfying and fun build, even some interesting techniques. The functions are not barn burners, but they are as interesting as the A model functions (sort of). Open doors (A model) fold-away headlights (B model). Engine compartment door(A model), opening rear tailgate (B model). Just MHO, YMMV, Andy D
