  1. The Palace Cinema is a bit bigger, with most of its detail work focused on the exterior of the building while the Parisian Restaurant is smaller, yet is detailed on both the interior and exterior. So I'd say they're pretty evenly balanced. It's really up to you and which one you find the most appealing, but I'd choose to get the Palace Cinema first because it'll retire sooner. Do you have any of the other modulars besides the Detective's Office? Because if you don't have the Petshop, I'd also recommend you try to find that soon if you can because it's the oldest still available.
  2. I'm having a garage sale to get rid of some extra crap, let's hope I can make enough for Petshop, Maskmaker vs Skullgrinder, a PaB cup, and possibly Onua, PoE, Kopaka, and PoI if my Lego store has them. Add in my birthday, and I'm getting about $40 in points this year to spend/save for next year.
  3. It's still kind of like that with the catalogs. With the Lego train track sets, you'll get a fold out sheet of what possible layouts you can do with which sets and whatnot, and my Lego store will offer to give you the monthly Lego Club magazine/product catalogue. One thing I do miss was the Brickmaster subscription you used to be able to get where you would get a polybag set with each monthly magazine.
  4. I've started collecting more white 4x6 plates and tiles for the winter village scenery, and it's definitely a good amount. But it looks like I might have to exhaust my Lego store's supply to get enough for all the buildings plus some train track. Hopefully I can find some good tables soon to set up a Modular/Winter Village train layout.
  5. Well that's going to be a pretty decent sized model. I saw the Burj Khalifa picture on Reddit, and it's a definite buy. It's at least a foot and a half tall, way better than the Eiffel Tower. Hopefully in the future we get a larger sized Eiffel Tower as well.
  6. I don't mind. Hopefully the next one after Brick Bank will be a roaring twenties hotel, if the Ghostbusters rumor proves false.
  7. This is wonderfully designed, it has all the proper proportions and shaping the Emerald Night should have had. It would look really good puling a Christmas train around the living room.
  8. Probably not, I don't have the parts and I can't use brickficiency But I did include the LDD file and I'll probably upload it to rebrickable tomorrow. Also, I'm not sure of the rarity of certain parts. That's why I used the 2x3 car doors on the cars, and as for the baseplates on the cars, they can be substituted for the new 6x28 baseplate to cheapen the cost as the old one in red only comes in a few sets IIRC. But in total, it comes out to around 1200 parts so estimating part costs and shipping, I'd put it at $150 or so to brick link. I'd love to see someone build it IRL though, I did this after seeing the 7740 in new bricks thread. And disregard the two 9V motors, I used those as a substitute for the PF motors.
  9. Do you have any Lego technic? You could use that to alter gearing, build proper chassis(es?), and reduce the weight a lot. You'd only need a few small sets to get started with it at this scale and it would drastically improve performance. You could also use some smaller tires, which would help with the motor burning out and not having enough torque.
  10. I just finished my first decent train MOC, an updated and improved version of the 7740 Intercity Passenger Train. I intended this to be as practically brick linkable as possible, limiting the use of rare parts which will also reduce the price. The first part of it is the locomotive, which I designed to be shorter than a typical Lego City train to reduce part count and to bring it into closer proportions to an actual train. It's completely barebones inside, save for a control panel and a seat for the engineer. I used 2 9V motors out of pure laziness, so disregard that out of the design of the locomotive. Unlike the original 7740 locomotive which is a dual ended unit like the DB class loco it's based off of, I designed mine to be a hood unit to better fit and match the rest of the train. The dining car has a pair of tables, a stove, oven, cash register, and also two tables and a individual seat. Both passenger corridors are fully passable despite the position of the kitchen. The passenger car is designed a little more detailed, with brick built reclining seats and armrests that can hold a cup. And finally, the sleeper car can hold 6 minifigures very uncomfortably, with one reclined in each berth. 11. This would go nice with some other smaller scale buildings like a toyshop, tailor, and a grocery store for a great small town.
  12. This project is turning out to be amazing. Are you ever going to do a GoFundMe or Kickstarter to brick link all the buildings when it's over?
  13. Hopefully we get a nice 1000+ piece Creator house like 4954 Town House, but maybe scaled down a tiny bit. It's been a while since we got a simple normal Creator house, and that was the best one IMHO.
  14. Guess I'll just stock up on Creator Toyshops to make custom buildings. I was looking forward to this City wave cause of the more original subjects, but so far it's not too interesting, what with 5 police sets, 4 Fire sets, and only vehicles besides that for 2016.
  15. At this rate, I'm getting tempted to bricklink some of the older 80's and 90's sets and clean them up, there's nothing besides fire/police/construction/vehicles in City right now. But it's quite a touchy opinion to have in the Town forum though.
  16. This is a wonderfully designed set. Makes me wish we still had a Legends line.
  17. Just wondering, how do you find these pictures? I know they're in Lego's cache, but what method do you use?
  18. OriginalJK555 pretty much covered the gist of what I wanted to say already, but I'll say it anyways. Lego is a product, produced independently by a brand, that we as the consumers hold no power to control. If you don't like the direction Lego is heading, you can jump ship and join Megabloks/Kreo/Enlighten or any other clone brand you choose. The reason Lego markets its toys this way is because due to psychological differences between the male and female brain and the way chemicals affect them, boys are naturally drawn to building toys that facilitate action and muscle control. I should know, I'm a guy who's been collecting Lego sets since I was three. Lego already has all of the themes that boys like, and occasionally girls like too. Lego already has all of their customers in that demographic. They're trying to attract the rest of the girls who don't like building toys and love Barbie by releasing the Friends series. There's no exclusivity or exclusion of girls going on, sometimes a duck is just a duck.
  19. I'd love to see any train, as long as it comes with a nice amount of various passenger cars in a neutral color. Preferably a EMD F7 or DB103 with observation/dining cars, sleeper cars, baggage/mail cars, and a observation ending car. As long as it has that, I'll be happy.
  20. I love the look of these. They really achieve that balance between a nice simple facade and a fully blown out modular.
  21. For the next one if it's a new Post Office, I'd love to see a remix of it. Keep the cool features like the round window with the canopy and the tiled floor, change the exterior from a split roof to a single large roof with a attic space, add a small cafe on the interior of the Post Office, a ski rental stand, and a improved postal van in the same style as the Winter Cottage snowplow truck. And also downsize the gazebo, and make the base the snowy bench with the lamp post a tiny bit bigger. Or maybe a train loading dock instead of the last two. But if it is something new, then I'd like to see a cozy hotel with a big Christmas tree and a dining hall or a new Winter Village single story house complete with grandparents, hot chocolate, and pie.
  22. Maybe use the same SNOT 1x2x1 piece for the wheelbase and engine, and stack some plates to make the cars? All I know is that it'd look great on that smooth curve you did.
  23. Sorry, but I haven't tried this myself. I remember there was a Eurobrick topic a while back where someone did it, but I can't find it. And in LDD it's easier to place the door and use the hinge align tool to find the proper place to attach it, there's no correct method.
  24. It'd be fun to see a british style steamer with some pullman cars.
  25. Use some droid arms, modified 1x2 plates with bars, and some lightsaber blade pieces to make the doors. If you get it all together right, you'll be able to pull the doors open and slide them back.
