Taking a look back at the Behemoth [LPL]
Lego Dino 500 replied to Electricsteam's topic in LEGO Train Tech
This is really interesting. Funny thing is, I was just looking at the possibility of making a pneumatic locomotive. I know it seems impractical, but have you considered using the new compact pneumatic cylinders, they'd stick out a lot less than the old ones. And also if you need help with the switches, I found a channel that seems to do nothing but LPLs. -
I can totally agree with this, but please any color but sand red. Maybe something like olive or dark green or dark red with sand yellow, but sand red is not a good color in general for trains. I can't think of any trains or cars that are sand red, aside from some intermodal containers. And a 3 in one set would be a great idea. Throw in the parts to make a steam loco, a high speed train, a diesel, and some cars (ideally a painted budd amfleet car that could easily go from Pullman to streamlined to budd amfleet cars. Preferably it could be a Anerican hood diesel, a European high speed train, and a British-American ambiguous steam engine like a mainline 2-8-4. It could be our next hobby train potentially if they go this route. It'd just require the basic bricks for the cars and the engines, the bogies, the steam mechanism, and any specialty parts to make the shape of the trains.

Original Bionicle vs CCBS discussion
Lego Dino 500 replied to MakutaOfWar's topic in LEGO Action Figures
It wasn't necessarily just 2008 lime joints. Literally every single OG Bionicle socket piece I have is broken, save for a few Av-Matoran limbs and Mata feet which have yet to meet their fate. As for the torso and ball limb pieces? Still perfectly intact, despite the constant use except for a unfortunate Hordika limb from Gadunka. Luckily, the CCBS balls and sockets are a lot more durable and over engineered. -
I'd also say both. It's trying to find the balance of wanting to build your own Lego trains, and buying and building and running the sets as if they're you know, model trains. Personally, I'd say I fall under both given how I mod and improve stuff like my 60052, but I'd also like to build my own locomotives and cars but my brick link-fu is subpar.
-
Yeah, everyone thinks the Emerald Night is perfect but it's not. It's a 4-6-2 engine with a too small tender and the boiler and front of a 4-8-4 mountain. And it only comes with one carriage, in a color rare enough that it costs $150+ to buy on brick link or ebay.
-
Pretty much the same as Dutchiedoughnut. Also, I've been getting into model trains in N and HO, and I wanted some Lego trains too for all my Lego cars and buildings and vehicles. So far I have one heavily modded 60052 and a crap ton of track, and I'm saving up for a second one along with the new Ideas Wall-E and Pirate Ship.
-
Just to clarify, are the new 1x2x2 transparent pieces bricks or panels? Either would be fine, but I want to get a crap ton with some 2x1s for some Train MOCs.
-
I'll have to keep an eye out for those. I really need some windows for train MOCs. And also some more green curved slopes and hinges and clips and plates, I've never seen anyone fill a pickamodel at my store. Get ready for lots and lots of green train MOCs
-
If everything goes as planned, I should be getting two Holiday trains. And we always do get ornaments each Christmas, it's just that it's not the easiest to get or find in stores. And even as one set, it seems like a pretty decent polybag to go with your Christmas Village. As for what I'll do with two, it looks like the tender could make a decent gondola car and the second caboose could make a pretty cool passenger car.
-
That sounds like it could theoretically be some small steps toward a different business model. Maybe it could be a Southern Pacific Morning Daylight or a CB&Q Silver Streak Zephyr? Those could be cool. Especially if it gave you extra pieces for alt models like the articulated cafe and chair cars, or sleeper cars as well as the observation cars.

I would pretty much love anything at this point. It's just that a electric high speed short term transit train is about as boring as it gets, with everything streamlined, no details or greebles, and only seats in the passenger cars. That's why I love and desire to have a Santa Fe with a full set of passenger cars. It's a super interesting build, lots of detail, it had alternate builds for all the cars. The reason I don't like the Horizon Express is because the nose is built entirely out of large angled slope bricks. If it had a interesting nose build, I might've gotten it. And on the other hand, Lego needs to step up their game a bit. We need more Creator Expert and detailed sets, not necessarily any super large one. Like a small $30-$60 dollar Lego subway car or steam engine or high speed train with alternate builds and lots of interesting pieces would sell like crazy. And it'd give kids to try more difficult builds without breaking the bank. And more colors would be amazing, a blue lego Acela Express with some Amfleet cars would be a insta-buy.
-
That's pretty cool someguy, if we're getting a freight train again, if we don't get a steam engine I'd like to see something like this. It's real fascinating to see BNSF trains moving across through Table Mesa AZ from the hiking spots, and see them shuffling around on the sidings to let trains through.

It sounds more like a quasi-scifi fantasy adventure thing than Ninjago or KK2. I'm sort of predicting it to be a sort of DnD type thing, focusing on the events of a story, and not just the big locations and vehicles and everything. At least I hope.
-
I would love a steam engine, it's just that I find typical commuter rail trains to be kinda boring. They can be kind of cool, but for the most part, they're not built good enough as a set. But as for steam and diesel? I love it all. British, German, Russian, or American, they all have their own distinct styles and designs.
-
The Horizon Express is decent, it's just not what we've been looking for in a Creator Train. My ideal Creator Train would probably be a GE EMD ESC44 with a load of maybe 5-10 intermodal cars with containers, or a SP Morning Daylight. What do you guys want?

This is awesome, I can't wait for 40138. It's been 9 years since the last Christmas Train.

Union Pacific diesel - EMD F40PH - A & B units
Lego Dino 500 replied to Murdoch17's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I agree with A Gallifreyan Cat. It does look a tiny bit too sharp. It looks like you can fix that up a bit by replacing the 4x4 tiles with some studded plates, and using a mix of cheese slopes and 1x3slopes should get that out to a nice angle. -
It's not the smallest flex track. I did a bit of research, and they have it even in TT scale. Anyways, Coaster, if it's possible, what are the odds of you resin casting some O rail compatible Lego track ties, the large radius track, or possibly those turnouts? I'd love to own some of this awesome track, but I lack the capabilities or time to produce it on my own.
-
No joke, that's a really great solution. If more brick link sellers than Sage Railworks made the same custom smoke generators, lights, and wheel sets, I'd buy them up in a heartbeat. I'd love to see the Train Tech community move closer and start to break walls with model trains, and it seems we're on the right path with ME Models and your custom couplers. Now if only ME Models made longer train base plates and smoke generators.
-
The couplings are fine for the most part. It's not hard or inaccurate to use a 6 wide coupling with a 7-8 wide locomotive. I've seen a lot of diesel locos and intermodal cars, and I don't think I've ever seen a coupling and buffer as wide as the loco or car. They're always a bit narrower than the body of the car or loco due to loading gauges and design. It's inconsequential to the design of a Lego train, and I doubt enough people are building proper 10 wide to make a difference. A difference of 1/2 or 1 stud between the end of a coupler and a car is actually more accurate than no gap. Anyways, I hope we get a big steamer, something interesting like a PRR T1 4-4-4-4. And since it is getting to the 50th anniversary, it'll probably be something big like a new Hobby Train, a DD40X, or maybe a UP Big Boy. Or possibly something along the lines of a improved My Own Train. At least I hope.

I just looked back through the ME Models store, and I'm really excited! I have a few questions that I've been curious about for a while. How long will it be before you plan to release locomotives and rolling stock? That's the #1 thing I'm excited for, besides the large radius curves and rails. I can't wait until I can individually buy cars and locomotives, without the expense of paying for a whole entire extra set like what Lego does. What sort of rolling stock and locomotives do you plan on releasing in the future? Sorry, it's just that I'm so excited for a aftermarket to open up for custom Lego trains, without the expense and exclusivity of purchasing a MOC on bricklink.
-
Ehh, there's a bit of time between Lego sets releases in different locations. Like Bionicle was released in 2000, and we didn't get the sets until 2001. I'd wager there was at least a 6 month period it was released, pushing it into 1966 as well. As for the Friend's Party train? That sounds kinda interesting, but we'll have to wait and see what it is before we freak out over it though.

Sprinter Light Train (SLT) - LDD MOC WIP
Lego Dino 500 replied to Hod Carrier's topic in LEGO Train Tech
If you're looking at the novelty of possibly motorizing your 4 wide trains in the future, you can get HO scale motors and frames here: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/HO-Scale-Electronics-Motors-s/1967.htm and trucks and wheel sets here: http://www.modeltrainstuff.com/HO-Scale-Couplers-Trucks-Wheelsets-s/1452.htm. I know a while back I saw a brick shelf folder for someone who made HO scale Lego trains the same way, but I can't find it. It'd be interesting to see what you come up with if you try it. Good luck with more 4 wide trains. I'd try it, but I keep having a ton of trouble with the trucks. -
Just a question that's kinda got me stumped: Besides the normal Lego trains, why haven't we gotten any Technic trains? I'd love to see a full 1/38 scale UP Big Boy made out of Lego technic, and to scale with the Lego track. That'd be something pretty interesting, and it seems pretty feasible, so it make you wonder why it hasn't happened.

Lego themes that we would like to happen
Lego Dino 500 replied to YellowCorvette's topic in General LEGO Discussion
A modular zoo could be pretty great if they did it right. 8x16 modules for smaller aquariums/terrariums, with things like fish, spiders, and snakes, 16x16 for medium sized cages, for larger animals, and then a few 32x2 ones for BIG animals, like elephants or bears, and a entrance way with ticket booths and a gift shop.- 451 replies
