  1. ... Bionicle isn't new. It was originally released in 2001, until it's discontinuation in 2009 before it's reboot in 2015. It came out in the same year as Star Wars, and both kept Lego from bankruptcy, so I can't see why it's controversial or hated by AFOLs.
  2. Yeah. To be perfectly honest, the Lego Ideas community is extremely toxic and insecure about the whole process. People like the R2D2 dude are using the platform to show off, and generate publicity for themselves. (the Kenny Baker R2D2 dude hasn't even updated his project, it's 21 updates of meaningless fluff and self promotion of his social media and other projects) They somehow believe that if they get the votes, it's going to be approved, and that Lego would be willing to produce a $5,000 set for the less than a thousand people in the world who would buy it. It's frustrating, to say the least. The only way to combat this is to flag the spam, self promotion, and low effort projects, like the R2D2 and to put good ideas up there and advertise as much as we can. Is it ok to mention our own projects in this thread? Airport Express
  3. Whatever it is, I just hope we get a decent sized castle and a village building or two. The past few castles besides Helm's Deep have just been messes of wall panels, assorted bricks, and randomly scattered rooms and play features.
  4. Has anyone tried using regular technic beams for monorail track, instead of 2x4s? It seems that would simplify track design, such as curves, switch tracks, and would put less stress on the pieces.
  5. I started work on designing a Pirate train, but I doubt it'd work. Or even balance on the track, it was about 14 wide and extremely top-heavy.
  6. You already mentioned graphite lubricant, but I can vouch for how well it works. Just take a sheet of paper, cut a hole wide enough for the loco and car wheels, and blow a tiny amount into the gap of the friction pegs on the wheels. It's not going to affect or mess with the plastic at all, and it's not messy.
  7. I doubt they'll pose a threat. They're not dedicated building toy brands which value quality, value, or any effort into designing their sets, they're toy brands, and that's all they'll be. Heck, Hasbro hasn't even updated Kre-o or made any new sets. They're still listing and posting the same sets from 4+ years ago. They actually outsource their bricks from chinese clone brands, many of which use discarded or cast Lego molds to make subpar bricks that don't even fit together. The one part I am annoyed about is Hasbro buying Wizards of the Coast, which means we'll never get decent Dungeons and Dragons building sets. Outside of the stray Transformers set, I've never actually seen Kre-o in the wild. If anything, it'll drive Lego to make better sets, get more licenses, and make more profits. Lego actually has brand name power, while everything else dies out or goes to the fringes of society.
  8. It'd be cool to see a high fantasy story focused take on the next Castle theme, almost like Bionicle or old school Dungeons and Dragons. Maybe reintroduce some old factions like Forestmen and Dragon Masters too. But ultimately all I care about is that we get some decent castles, buildings, and siege engines.
  9. I'm thinking we could get maybe some buildings that connect together, like D&D scenery or the Heroica game boards. That'd be really cool. It doesn't even have to be full sized detailed builds, facades with a tiny bit of scenery and a figure or two would be great.
  10. Man, my wish list grows every time I look at this forum. Can't wait until I have my own income to spend on Lego, I'll probably go into bankruptcy
  11. It'd be cool to see a new and improved 2-6-4 locomotive, with a properly scaled boiler and details. Add in a pullman coach, a matching caboose, and a flatbed car and I'd be happy.
  12. Whatever it is, I hope we get some modular builds, so we could connect together the different buildings, and tie it together with some scenery. I've actually started work on making a modular standard for Lego D&D, but that'd likely be a whole different beast than anything that Lego releases .I'm getting a bit annoyed at all the low effort vignette sets lately, but luckily Nexo Knights has avoided that trend. Let's hope the same happens for future Castle, I'd love to see some buildings outside the normal battle packs, castle, and villain lair.
  13. I really love the look of the new airplane, shame it doesn't come with a proper terminal.
  14. I'd love to see some modern American diesel units, along with some MoW equipment. A ES44 BNSF unit, with a snow plow and ballast tamping machine would be amazing.
  15. Right now I'm salivating and shaking like a heroin Lego addict...
  16. Well, I'm sure it'll turn up. Possibly covered in hard packed ice from being at the bottom of the snowdrift, but that shouldn't affect the plastic too much. Just thaw it out and warm it up in some warm water to remove the snow and dirt. Hope you find it soon!
  17. I really love the updated 1980s style you have going on here. Makes me yearn for more roof tiles and classic bricks, I'd love to build a city from the ground up.
  18. I feel indifferent about how many specialized parts Lego uses right now, but I'd prefer if they cut down a bit. If Lego went back to the old 4 wide or 5 wide standard for cars and trucks though, that'd be amazing. I feel like Lego is sacrificing vanilla bricks for SNOT pieces and doors and stuff a bit too much now, I can build a car or truck and use hardly any actual bricks. And if they focused on facades, using more parts instead of the horrendous play sets and wall pieces they have now, that'd be pretty cool as well.
  19. It's American football. It looks like a promo for now, but we can dream.
  20. Am I the first person to catch this and post it here? I just saw this on /r/lego, and had to share it. They already have build videos and instructions for a mini model, but it's still odd it isn't linked to from the Products page yet. https://espn.lego.com/en-us/espn.html
  21. Maybe there's something we all can do to get your DB130 more exposure. Maybe you could contact Model Railroader, about your model and the world record you're trying to set? They don't do Lego stuff too often, but I'd imagine they would cover it given enough information.
  22. It looks like the turntable is really stressed, the body's tilting and bending a lot. Maybe you could make some stabilizers on the front and back, to supplement the counterweight? That shouldn't require too many pieces.
  23. If there's a NDA involved, then it certainly mean that he wouldn't know. We can't just draw conclusions on first glance. Maybe the engine will be something iconic, not to the year 1966 but to modern history. Maybe a BR class or 2-8-4 Berkshire or the Mallard, or a PRR T1 with some coaches would suffice, given their significance to railway history and how easily they're recognized.
  24. How much faster are you going to get it? Tenders for 4-8-2 locomotives and larger were typically centipede or vanderbilt tenders. They can easily get to about 1/2 2/3 the size of the locomotive. You have room in the tender to put another 2 pumps, if you have them. And instead of just the two different strokes, if you put them in a spiral pattern they should provide more constant airflow to the pneumatic cylinders, but this only works with 3 or more.
  25. I'm pretty excited for 2016 Bionicle now. There's more technic, classic Bionicle pieces, and now we're getting more detailed greebles. It honestly feels like Bionicle is headed back to it's roots, both in figure design and story. Any idea how many more years we'll have Bionicle? I heard three years, but I'm hoping it'll last another 9.
