  1. I like the colorscheme very much! Nothing agaist these red or yellow handlers but this boosts the look up in the sky :D Reasonable choice of power functions too! The boom look pretty robust. Did you try lifting some weights with that?
  2. Magnificent. It's no secret that Venator is probably my top favourite ship from SW and I'm glad there are more models coming, especially if it's a new, original build! It looks very spot on, although I prefer the hull to be more tapered towards the sides, which I think is more movie accurate. However, there are plenty of refference models (Which I believe are mostly based on the clone wars series) which are more flat, similarly as your model is. Plus it is rather negligible nunce, the difference might be like 2 degrees maximum :) The turbolasers look wonderful and so do the twin canons on the sides. Good luck with the progress, I can't wait to seing some closeups! BTW the pic of the cute venatorbuild doesn't show, at least not for me.
  3. I'd be interested in you sharing your experience with the purchases, if you are willing. Do people often pay more than what is the minimum you ask for? If your experience is good, it might motivate others to use the same principle ;)
  4. Thanks for re-upload and for updates - it is great that you put the effort in making this more likely buildable for the others :) How is this ATAT going by the way?
  5. In certain aspects regarding the model representation, the Cloud CIty is very similar to the Death Star. It is huge, it has iconic exterior and multiple interior features. I believe that trully succesful model would have to combine both. Take away the interiors and you end up with UCS model (sort of like 10143) and, to be honest, I highly doubt that Cloud City is popular and visually attractive enough to make a good subject for such display set (symmetric and kind of boring shape, tricky stand attachment...). So there is the second option of sacrificing the exteriors and implementing some cool interior features. Lego pulled this off ingeniously the 10188 Death Star. But the main reason for this set being so cool is that it retains the main resemblance with the subject. It is a propper ball shaped Death Star as we know it and it is somewhat easy to imagine the skins on it, even though it's open all around. Now imagine it wouldn't be like that. Imagine it would be just random a mesh of interior features put together into a playset. Some hangar, Superlaser next to it, then some ladder, catwalk, some room... I very much doubt such set, although being great source of play and minifigures perhaps, would get a fraction of love. The problem with Cloud City is that it doesn't seem to be executable in 10188 way :( At least I can't imagine that. With the notable exception of tha VAkkron's digital model, all the attempts correspond to the 'random mesh' type of model. I'd be extremely happy if someone proved me wrong and built a CS playset that would be aesthetically pleasing just as DS is. Or even better, if LEGO produced such set straight away. The fact is, however, that I'm doubtful about that.
  6. Cloud car does work as a set altough I see nothing really exeptional on that proposal you linked. I'm guessing though that one of the reasons why cloud car doesn't get released very often is the lack of demand, Not only it didn't have the greatest role in the movie but it belongs to the Cloud City which is (as you noticed :D) not very prominent within the lego SW line. I am your Father would make for a wonderful MOC but again not very good set. Despite being collectors dream, this is what - a 1500 piece catwalk which allows you to recreate one (no matter how iconic) scene and other than that it doesn't have much to it (not to mention it would be fragile and very kid-play unfriendly).
  7. April fools in mid June or,,,? :/
  8. Rather than a content upon which the set is based, I think it is the actual execution of given set which forms the customer feedback. The problem with Cloud City I can see is that it is a big structure and each scene, in order to look appropriate, requires a lot of bricks. That's why most scenes Lego try to recreate into medium sized sets look somewhat sparse and unfinished. That's the case with carbon chamber I think. The set itself look like a one third of what it should be and you ultimately have to buy several of these to get the scene look right. And even if you do that, it's still torn apart from the context of the whole room, which is supposed to be enclosed with walls, somewhere inside of the city. And then again, buying several sets to create an ultimate version is alright for some core fans like you but most standard customers would like to receive complete set right out of the box. And that's not how this freezing chamber look in my opinion. I think that the only concept for UCS Cloud City which may please the core fans is something like this, where the piece count is just massive and I it's easy to imagine number of issues (stability, construction) why this is not great for TLG to tackle.
  9. The operation is excellent! I always wondered who was going to manage RC pneumatic model with such great manouvering options :) The thing I don't like and upon which I already commented in your previous moc tour videos is the proportion. I can't help myself but the arm look considerably small compared to the rest.
  10. Rather than an X-wing, this reminds me the ARC-170 from the ROTS. Although there are the actual wings missing, only the foils, the overal feeling and proportion is somewhat closer to it :) Anyway, I like it and I think it has just the right amount of dieselpung to it to actually feel very Star Wars genuine! :D
  11. ^ I believe that they just named it - the scale. 8288 looks very 'realistic' since it's in small scale, yet has some great height to it. 42042 is scaled bigger (judging from the superstructure and cabin) and it would probably look inappropriately bulky next to the BWE.
  12. Interesting. It looks a bit weird on the real thing but I like the colors on the model.
  13. Seriously. I didn't say 8043 is hollow. I said that it is OFTEN a reality that technic models are build with rather hollow insides so they look bigger and I suggested that with this Volvo it might be the oposite, more MOC-like case. Regarding 8043, I only pointed out the PF elements which add up to the volume quite a lot and the big parts which e.g. form the arm, so that one, while being very large, only contain several dozens of parts. Not sure what drives you crazy so much about this but I assure you that I only suggested some explanation, I don't claim it's 100% true. Maybe your reasoning with every hole pointlessly filled with a pin 'just to get higher piece count' proves correct in the end...
  14. Maybe the final look on assembled ship will convince me otherwise but as for now this cannons look too big to me :) At least in my perception of the size of your whole ship which is determined by the hints you give (e.g. asteroid processing facility - well that must be something huge right? :D and it's just a small part of the ship). Anyway It's once again fantastic piece of technic engineering. You manage to offer something new and interesting with every part of the ship. I'm so looking forward to next update! :D
  15. Lego often build their models with low part density and they try to push the part cound down. It's common case that custom technic MOCs, while being comparable size to some official model, contain e.g. twice as many parts. Especially with lego system pieces the part cound can increase quickly. You compare with 8043 which indeed is bigger but contain sizable PF elements and a lot of big parts in general (long 15L beams, giant bucket, big panels...). So eventhough it looks weird, I think 1000+ part count actually can be legit :)
  16. ^ A contest? A detailed-minifig scale? By the way TheNerdyOne_ built the Hammerhead himself within his fleet, scroll down a bit in his thread to see. I think these are very nice.
  17. ^ I'm not sure. If they secretly did the changes now after publicly dismissing any flaws, it would be a big step towards a real scandal :)
  18. ^ what should be the problem? Music? Something else connected to the movie? I doubt anyone will care. And there is nothing wrong on making and promoting a movie related creation which you don't plan to sell or comercialize ;) EDIT: Oh I see, some movie clips. Well I'm no legale but judging from the gazzilions of videos on YT which feature some cuts from licensed movies (often even without listing the source properly), I think you should be alright :D Nice video, the drilling fuction is great. The sttering is a bit lazy as it relys on the slip of the outer wheels, Would be nice if the front and back wheels from both rows turned.
  19. What's the problem with youtube? I mean, I'd like to watch the video but your link directs to page in russian which I have difficulties to understand plus it asks for some login or registration or something.
  20. See the video review by Sariel: The change is shown there at 28:58 +.
  21. ^ Heh, I was wondering the same thing while reading WhiteFangs comment. Though I thought I wouldn't be ruining his enthusiasm and I also lacked courage for questioning a moderator guy :)
  22. I don't think it looks better or more appropriate. That disc would stick to proud laying flat on the studs of the round plate plus it has this ugly technic axle hole in the middle... I think all three options presented by Bill are better with the last being superior in my opinion :)
  23. ^ Right, the striking comparison works for 8880 as well if you consider the functionality only. The reason for which I compare with 8448 instead is the similarity in building proces and aesthetics. Even though the porsche has fully enclosed body, which is perhaps it's biggest achievement (yet I personally prefer seing the insides and the wireframe that mimics the shape is all I need) that might possibly be called 'ultimate', 8448 already offered smooth curves of a supercar and I can easily imagine the inclusion of some panels, should you wish to close it up. Also the way of building the chasis, engine and the bodywork separately is common and here again, I think it's better executed with 8840 which actually offered bodywork modifications. To be fair though, the design of the porsche is strictly directed by the real thing so no complaints here.
  24. Thanks for great review Jim. I really like the way it's put together, with some of the preliminary questions answered. The pictures are also great and the videos really make it more attractive. Regarding the model itself, I'm a bit short to judge. I don't have this money to spend on lego set, no matter how good is it. As it is, I'm not buying it, if it has several more features, I wouldn't be buying it either. Even so, I have this 'could have been better' feeling and it's stronger with each review of information I get about this set. Why do I feel that TLG got somewhat scared of putting something extra in their sets? It's almost like there is some limited stack of 'coolness' the designer have available for each set and is prohibited from overdrawing it. Could it be that even though LEGO call this an 'ULTIMATE' model, they still hold the handbrake on how many features are implemented? Like 'Hey, hold back man, sure we said the ultimate, but not as ultimate, you know? Save something for the further models!'. Or perhaps they want not to put other coexisting models to shame? Or are there some other obvious reasons for holding back which I'm missing? Huge pricetag - check, Ultimate - check, Big scale - check, Available technology - check. ...so why are the functions worse than with 8448? It really feels like back then LEGO had ba**s to make trully ultimate models, utilizing all the available techniques. Today, they never hesitate to pull out 'Ultimate' tags and stamps, however, the actual designs seem rather down-to-earth.
