Impossible LEGO
nerdsforprez replied to Boxerlego's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have long noticed that this piece, along with its smaller sibling, http://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=15100#T=C Have incredibly thick pins. Thicker plastic than 3l pins. Even the black, old style. Still, with enough force, they should come apart as @Slegengr mentioned -

Lately there has been quite a few great smaller builds, and in my opinion that is great. But never count out huge builds, and none so great as yours. Just based on sheer numbers, large builds can be difficult because they take so many parts. Congrats on mastering a new approach as well! I similarly, for the first time, built something digitally before actually building in bricks. -
Way to represent!! I agree.....exposure is really nice. Sure helps my wife think that perhaps my hobby is not all that nerdy

I also just noticed that that the problem is fixed. Thanks so much for being on top of this! -
Wonderful build Jerry. I also like how compact it is. Did u use the unit u already had (one used in other vids) or have they shipped you another unit?

In the real show, many of the top contenders' bots are hideous looking. Many don't place much emphasis on looks at all. If there were ever a contest that the adage "function over form" applied, this would seem to be it. How come in our competition not only is a criterion, but the number one criterion at that? Is it because we can't have actual battles, therefore some other criterion must take precedence? And the criterion of "likeliness to win the battle" too subjective?

Great job. Excited for the video. Wanna see more about the functions -
Yes, unfortunately I think there is a bit of a communication problem. I understand only a little of this. But no matter..... thanks for the response anyways. If I understand correctly, you think that a mechanism to sweep wings back would be impossible b/c of weight, etc. I partially agree. Your wings are longer, but mine wider, and therefore the weight may be similar between the two but because of the length it may not be possible. I think this is not because a mechanism would not be strong enough, rather, too much bending because the junction point with the wing to ship too far and would experience a lot of bending. Anyways, I have actually completed my mechanism, and it works. It required a little different body configuration than what is typically seen in sketches of the U-Wing, but like I mentioned in my first post that doesn't worry me much.

This indeed is a great model, and I as well love the U-wing. I also building my own rendition of the U-wing.... but, being one who mostly builds in Technic, I am doing mine in nearly exclusively Technic bricks. Kinda like the Drakmin's X-wing and other builds (although likely will not be nearly the same quality). I am implementing the Technic technique (???) for the wings and will try to add an element of functionality to the build. The sliding wings will be functional as well as the bay doors (hopefully). So, naturally, I have some questions..... I see that your wings slide back like the real thing...... Is this done manually, one wing at a time? If so, do you have any pics of how they are mounted? Mine will mount with gears engaged, given that the function of wing-rotation will also be done manually, but by gears, not, literally, manually (one at a time, by ones hands). Also, I see that when they are in their forward position, they lock into position by a pin I think. Is that correct? Lastly, do you have plans, or a set of certain pics that you used for scaling? As I research there appears to be little nuances that make every rendition a little different. I have seen several online pics where even the sizes appear different. Toys, not just Lego, bus also other plastic models I have seen miss the mark a little. Not that I am all that concerned. In reality, I see the spaceships of SW as cars, or other machines of today. Take a Boeing 747 for example, there are many, many different renditions of this plane. If the future were to become a reality, and we really did have similar ships as in SW.... you can bet there would be many different renditions, with color variations, different features, scaling of different features, etc.......

Geeeezo.....can be buWizz just give us updates already?? I think it can possibly change allot of things. The speed on this is amazing. -
I wouldn't pretend to tell you that you "have to" follow this...... Just my opinion, that is all. I don't share the opinion that just because something is online it is free game for anyone to do with it as he/she pleases. I get that is the reality. No question there. But we often place responsibility on people who post things online, and undoubtedly there is responsibility, but often neglect to consider the responsibility of viewers. My comment was more directed to a simple respect of the poster thing. If someone posts something, and says they don't want it copied - I wouldn't - but just as kind of a respect, gentleman's agreement kind of thing. But I get that others may not follow it.

Actually, alcohol usually boosts creativity as it lessens inhibitions. Now......having the intellectual firepower to actually DO some of the amazing things that builders do with LEGO is a different story, and excessive alcohol can negatively affect that. Interestingly enough, aside from layman's terms creativity and intelligence have little in common. The oft held belief that creative people are brilliant is not accurate, at least not according to the technical definition of intelligence. Just a little bit of useless infotainment to share at like a cocktail party or something -
Terrific build. I am actually in the camp of one who likes the idea of flex axles threaded through liftarms for the curves of the wheels arches and other places. The back end is stupendous....... and the LBG flaps are a perfect fit. I do agree with @Jeroen Ottens in that you are now entering a higher tier of building and therefore some time spent on learning a bit about photo and video editing would help show future models. I think some type of filter was attempted on a lot of these pics, with a type of yellowish hue, that I think was attempted thinking that it improved the pics when in reality I don't think it did. Lastly, I think the rear brake calipers are in the wrong position. Not having an engineer's bone in my whole body I honestly do not know the reason why, but every car I see (even 42056) has the brake calipers on opposite sides on fron versus rear wheels. Hopefully that is taken with the same intent that it is meant for; in that the feedback is given to demonstrate the excellence of your builds and not because of a lack of it....... Thanks for sharing. Once again great build.

I second the request for another update. I know the BuWizz folks are working incredibly hard. I appreciate the updates we have received so far. HOwever, we are now approx. two months behind the original anticipated release date, and although I know delays are not uncommon in the Kickstarter world, I feel there should be an inverse relationship between time from original release date and the amount of updates received (i.e. as more delays are introduced we should be getting more updates) The last update actually was not very informative. Saying shipping will begin "very soon" is still very much a relative term. Ron, can you provide us with anything else? Perhaps even a more updated anticipated date? Backers - I was one of the later backers of the project, so I will receive my unit later than most. No one has received their unit.... right? Of those that were more towards the front of the line, do you plan on informing the group when you receive your unit?

Can there be a better introduction? I love these builds... not just because they are entirely unique, but the functions are actually pretty marvelous. The rowboat and crawling zombie are so smooth. Id hold on to perhaps the zombie..... if we ever have like a halloween competition perhaps you could expound upon it..... I am sure if would be a winner....
