Custom micro motor adapter
kolbjha replied to msx80's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I don't have extensive knowledge about DC motors, but assuming I can interpolate between 6V and 12V to find 9V characteristics for stall torque and speed (I guess the speed referred to above is no-load speed), means that for 9V: Stall torque: 18.5 oz-in. = 13.06 N-cm No-load speed: 205 RPM Using Philo's site as reference: As RPM/Torque curve is linear, it means that max. power will be at half of no-load speed (and consequently torque that is half the stall torque), this motor will have a max. power of 205/2 RPM (= 1.708 rotation/sec) x 13.06/2 N-cm (= 0.0653 N-m) x (2xPi) = 0.701 W Comparing with PF M motor and measurements from Philo: Stall torque: 11 N-cm No-load speed: 405 RPM Max. power = 405/2 RPM (= 3.375 rotation/sec) x 11/2 N-cm (= 0.055 N-m) x (2xPi) = 1.166 W Summing up, comparison with PF M motor: Apx. 20% higher torque than PF M motor Apx. half the RPM of the PF M motor Apx. 60% of the power of the PF M motor Pretty impressing for that size IMO. But of course, I guess some of the reason the PF motors are bigger is the housing and BI's. Philo, or others with knowledge about DC motors, please correct if I am wrong, or comment. -
App for RC
kolbjha replied to itoero's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Not entirely so. I know there has been apps out there for mobile devices with IR, to be used with PF receiver. -
servo not for steering?
kolbjha replied to itoero's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually it turns 90 degrees each way, but that doesn't change your conclusion of course. -
[MOC] Motorized Cherry Picker
kolbjha replied to Anto's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
+1 I really like it from the start, but I like it even more the more I look at it , especially the arm lifting mechanism. IMHO this could have been an official LEGO model - and I would have been one of the buyers for sure! The playability is great even without remote control, I think it's not easy to make it RC. One way could perhaps be using BuWizz (due to the size and the fact that it can replace the BB and 2 PF receivers). There are 6 obvious functions IMO: drive, steering, outriggers, slewing, arm lifting, and arm extension. Imagine making something similar to 8043, with 4 motors, 1 of them for switching "mode": Mode 1: Drive, steering, outriggers. Mode 2: Slewing, arm lifting, arm extension. That would be truly fantastic!- 18 replies

[MOC] Motorized Cherry Picker
kolbjha replied to Anto's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Did you consider to motorize extension of the arm? It is the only thing I can think of making it perfect. BTW, any plans for BI? I would love to build this creation of yours (and so would my son)!- 18 replies

Examples: Controlling a pneumatic valve, toggles, sequential paddle shift gearbox, and many more. -

Excellent! Compact, yet a lot of functionality, and look great! My soon 6 year old son saw your video, he was really amazed, and said he want to build it too!- 18 replies

Your parts wishlist
kolbjha replied to skppo's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
What about 4760c01? Problem is of course that you can't use it to power the PF receiver (you CAN use an empty PF BB in between... :-D ). -

Favorite Lego Technic sets ?
kolbjha replied to Legofan225's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I understand exactly what you mean, for me the same. Even I don't consider 8069 as one of the best, in an objective sense, it's one of the sets I cherish the most, because it was one of the sets that brought me out of my dark ages. I discovered the studded glory of the 90's later, all of your cherished sets from then, are among my favorites today - objectively speaking :-D And for the studless, 42043 is certainly up there! Sorry, forgot to mention that this was a reply to allanp's post above. -
Favorite Lego Technic sets ?

Studded: 8485, studless: 42055. Saying that, I like most sets. 8270: lots of functions with only 100 pieces. 42055: hours of building, really playable. 8880: classic, elegant, functional. I love my hobby! -

Technic 8455 MOC/Recolour
kolbjha replied to Richard Dower's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
The nice things about these TDB pneumatic cylinders, apart from looking great, is IMO that you can actually see the piston movement. Because of that, it was much easier for me to explain for my kids how the pneumatics actually works. BTW, in 9641 (the educational pneumatic set mentioned above) you get 2 large TDB cylinders, 1 small TDB cylinder, 1 TDB hand pump, 1 TDB small pump for motor, 1 white air tank, 1 manometer and 3 pneumatic valves. -

I'm not sure if I have looked up correctly, but according to Brickset the 5L axle in black was last included in set 6620 (Ultimate Accessory Set) in 2006: http://brickset.com/sets/containing-part-4114740 It's great news that the browsing issue is solved, great work! However, there is a function from the old layout I'm missing, where you could go directly to the first unread post for a certain topic. Is there any similar function in the new layout? -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion
kolbjha replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
+1 42070 is really growing on me, Beside the driving and steering, I think this kind of hybrid makes it much easier to operate. After all, how many have added a IR Receiver to an official Technic "gearbox" model, or a PF switch, to more easily operate the motor than just using the switch on the BB. -
Hehe, nice idea How do you derive the weight using the gyro sensor?

Pink Technic
kolbjha replied to LucyCol's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Pink (or generally with Friends color scheme) would be nice. My 4 years old daughter loves Technic and Friends, I think she would be absolutely thrilled by the combination. I would definitely be on the list of customers.
