Technic 2017 Set Discussion
kolbjha replied to CM4Sci's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
For the 42070: A quick count (I may be wrong) gives around 73 studs = 58.4 cm, with the rear stabilzers in parked position, excluding crane, but including rear lights. -
Technic 2017 Set Discussion

Looks like there are white Bionicle tooth switches on each side, perhaps they are used to switch operation modes? On the box there is a red "sticker" with text like "switch should be facing down". I have a feeling 42070 may have some great and surprising functions! -
Excellent! Really love the looks and movements of the reindeers! Thanks for sharing, and Merry Christmas!

I totally agree with Milan! There are many ways of solving the pressure issue. -

It's been a true pleasure to follow the build of 8880! Like you, to me it was not a "must have" set, but now I totally changed my mind, thanks to your fantastic pictures and descriptions! Now I have to find a fair deal for it. My wallet is going to hate me for this, but really looking forward to follow the Claas build! -
[TC10] Wheel Loader
kolbjha replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Looking really promising, the outline indicated in your latest post seems just right! I'm also really curious on your return to center mechanism for the articulated steering. One of the things I think might be a problem, is that the closer it is to center, the less effect of retracting the big cylinder. Example: If its still 5 degrees off center, only apx. 9 % (the sine of 5 degrees) of the force from the big cylinder will be useful. But still a good idea, looking forward to see more!- 86 replies

How durable is Technic LEGO?
kolbjha replied to Bering's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
My experience with Technic parts is somewhat opposite, it happen that parts from set from the 90's cracks, especially toothed bushings and connectors. While more modern parts almost never fails. The only broken parts I have experienced in sets from last 16 years: 1. Broken 9398 shock absorber, but the assembled model falled like 2 meters from the top of the fridge, 2. One black 2L pin from the rotors of my 9396, as my little son played a little rough with it. I realize it maybe due to aging, but the difference, to my experience, is really significant. Color consistency, on the other hand, seems to me like a bigger issue with recent sets, especially for yellow parts. -
A couple of questions related to PF. Is it allowed to use PF Switch to control motor? Lights may be used in combination with motorized pumps. Does it mean that lights only can be powered at the same time as motors? Is it allowed to use PF extension cables, for example in umbilical?

The connection will not be a problem if this part is released again: http://bricker.info/parts/motor8/ -
Another small question: Is it allow to motorize a pneumatic actuator, like sort of a double-acting pump, or is motorization only allowed for the pneumatic pump parts?
-
I am considering making a control unit, containing the pneumatic pumps, the PF parts to drive them, and all the pneumatic switches. The control unit is then connected to the actual model using an umbilical, with two hoses for each of the pneumatic actuators. Is such an arrangement allowed? I think it is, but want to be sure.

Love your idea, and how you intend to realize it! Will be interesting to follow the progress! :) -
Thanks for an excellent review! I discovered this little thing: "If you are in need of Axle with Pin Hole from 2016, look no further. This set contains 49 of 'em. Yes that's right, 49!! And 14 of its axle counterpart Pin with Pin Hole from 2014." According to the parts list, it seems like the amounts have been swapped between these two. The pictures also indicate the same.

Thanks for the clarification. This is a must buy for me.

Thanks for an excellent review! I was just wondering about the issues of the bucket wheel. Is the problem with it to little torque from the motor, or is it because of the design of the bucket wheel? Is it possible to improve the performance by modifying the angle of the buckets, for example?

42055 - Bucket Wheel Excavator

53 5x7 frames! Just to put it in perspective. If you have one of each of the Technic sets from 2009 (when this part appeared) until 2016 1H, your collection of this part would be 59 pcs... -
I totally agree. I feel much more in control with actual levers to move, instead of touch screen sliders. I also wish we could get a control unit with variable speed, but not like the train remote. Perhaps a modular system, that can be mated with both SBrick and BuWizz, as well as Lego PF IR receiver? Saying all this, to me BuWizz sounds like a great idea.
