[MOC] Bucket Wheel
kolbjha replied to doug72's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think your design is good as it is with 5L spokes with angle. If the spokes were totally radial, the hub would not transfer torque to the wheel very well. -
[REVIEW] 42008 - Service Truck
kolbjha replied to syclone's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Very nice review! It's a fine model, and a great parts pack. Was this the first to feature both pneumatics and LAs? -
Hope this is not considered as nitpicking, but we also have the 41999 4x4 Crawler Exclusive Edition released in 2013. But perhaps we should consider 41999 as part of the 42*** series. And I can strongly recommend Technicopedia, to me it has been a valuable source for Technic functionality, history, parts and sets!

42056 - Porsche Speculation
kolbjha replied to Jim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
That's definitely functions! Actually, I think the 42056 will be packed with functions, and also looks great! My point was that a model without any technical features and/or playability, but only is intended for display, hardly can be called a Technic set, even if it's made of Technic parts. -

Agree. A Technic set with the looks, but no functions... Well, that is not a Technic set IMO. -
16:10 17:6 8:4 5:3 1:2 4:1 This was not easy at all, so many nice entries, so few points to give! Best of luck to all of you!

Wow! It is really impressive, all the details... I'm speechless!!! When I opened the topic and saw the pictures, scrolling down, more pictures, I was thinking "yeah, OK I got it now, how the original looks like..." Until I realized the pictures I was looking at in fact was of your Lego model!

[MOD] 8868 Airtech Claw Rig
kolbjha replied to NevynPA's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Nice, I did exactly the same, but didn't add a manual pump. Instead I added a pressure switch, using the old 9V pole reverser, a small pneumatic cylinder, and a couple of rubber bands. This was installed in the passanger seat, as I was too lazy to fit it in nicely - I primarily wanted to add playability. The drawback was that it took a while to fill up the tanks. I actually like your better idea better, with a manual pump. Probably better playability, as the tanks can be filled in two ways, or faster with both used. Cleaner also, than a pressure switch in the passenger seat... I totally agree that the white air tanks look better than the original fake ones, I was also surprised how well it fitted - and how easy it was to install them. -

That's some pack of power! Looking forward to see updates! -
I would say 2 years plus a few months. This was the case for at least 8110, 9398 and 42009.

Picture Request
kolbjha replied to ARXD's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think the tyres of 8297 are the same used for 9398, and I guess quite common. The rims are different colours, but the dimension same. However, the mold is different. The rims for the Unimog are LBG, but same mold as the rims for 9398. I didn't check, but perhaps they are compatible (even the 8297 rim has 3 holes, the Unimog rim has 6)? -
[MOC] Simple Supercar
kolbjha replied to Lipko's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
One of the best super car I've seen! I really love the body work, and all the functions, and the way they are implemented! The color scheme... I actually like it more the more I look at it, it gives life to the exterior! -
Your Best Technic Bargains

BNISB 8070 NOK 500 (around 50 euro) -
From the first picture, I estimate the angle of the mLA is apx. 55 degrees (from the horizontal) in the boom's upper position, and I guess U-joints is not so efficient at that angle. But then again, perhaps the added friction due to high angle is minimal (at least compared to what is induced by the gears), and fluctuation is not a problem, as it is input to a mLA...

Manias in building?
kolbjha replied to jorgeopesi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I also have to follow the BI for bushes, but sometimes it seems to me they are inconsistent (for example not symmetric where it would be natural). In those cases I follow what I feel is natural. Also axles must be rotated to be orthogonal. Same with pins with bushes, they should be rotated to match each other.
